I am not hungry for breakfast cereal in the slightest. I had French Toast this morning.

Speaking about French Toast, how about that Dr. Michel, ehh?

I'm trying to remember if she was mentioned in the books.

I don't believe she has been in any of the novels, but i could be mistaken.

Love the way she says "that's st-yew-pid, even for him". That pronunciation is ace. Really drives home Fist's stupidity. I think it would have been nice to see her in "Deception"; I would imagine she would have plenty of opportunity to reuse that line.

I always wanted more time with Dr. Michel. She was my favorite doctor in the ME series(taking nothing away from Chakwas who's also awesome).

As much as I brought Michel up in the past(along with others) I bet she'll be in ME3. Hopefully an extended role.

Wish she were in the novels. Then she could tell Mr. Cereal Killer how "st-yew-pid, even for him" he is.

As horrible as the book seems to be, it has ONE redeeming quality, maybe TWO-

1. The Cereal Killer meme
2. We're universally despising this novel

Funny how things bring people together.

I really like the cover, I guess that can be a redeeming quality too. The cover was what made me excited about the book in the first place. Now I think It's the only thing in the book I actually like.

Technically the cover's ON the book, not in it.

True. Well, I guess that settles it then. :D

Wow, was doing the challenge, and realized what someone else said in the other thread was right:

"Anderson had been an admiral, and the Alliance’s representative to the Citadel Council..."

Dietz @#$%ing said Anderson was on the Council! Completely missed that. Simply amazing.

I still cant work out whether I'm glad or not that i read these topics before reading the book.

On the one hand my expectations are lowered so much I feel like anything above a picture of Dietzs' bare arse on every page is going to exceed expectations. On the other hand, I might well have had my BS sensor less highly tuned when I started reading, and I might have missed some of this stuff..

You know... I can take Gillian's curing of autism, I can also take Kai Leng's presence on the batarian homeworld, I can EVEN take Kai Leng - Cupboard Raider, but Nick and Gillian being EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD?!?! NO ****-DAMN WAY!

NO! ****! DAMN! WAY!

There's no way that's possible! I've run the math over and over in my head. THERE IS NO WAY!

SEVENTEEN at most! And that stretching what we already know about the timeline.

I'm serious, is this like Terminator Salvation? Is it like an alternate timeline deal. I guess the ME franchise would have reached that point eventually, if it's still popular in 10-20 years. Eh... :?

Dietz said Anderson was on the Council?

Well, that WOULD'VE been right earlier.

It's not really that bad in itself, but the lack of exposition doesn't really help.  Btw, I doubt her autism would be "cured"; she's still probably going to think like an autistic person - the only difference should be that now she's learned the skills needed to express herself to others, that virtually everyone else learns automatically.

*sigh* No Nick and Gillian are not 18 and should not be. Nick is portrayed as some kind of spoiled brat and not the moody precocious smart ass he was.... Nick had a mad crush on Kahlee there's no way he'd act like that around her, he got in trouble because he was trying to prove he could fight and be 'a man' in her eyes.... This is so wrong..
What the hell is up with Gillian? O.o

I'm not at the cereal yet..

Yeah, I mean I'm following up on the events of Ascension. Quarian life was good for her. So I guess a few years more would have made the autism go into remission... I guess. It remains to be seen how the "outside" world will effect her, though.

Someone should do a remake of this book or a new edit like some fans did with the star wars prequels.

It makes her stupid.  And implausibly socially adept.

GODDAMN IT! IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!

IT'S NOT ******* POSSIBLE!!!

They CANNOT be eighteen... :pinched::pinched::pinched::pinched::pinched:

I think I died a little inside. I wonder how many blows to the head it would take for me to NOT go "IT'S NOT ******* POSSIBLE" every time I read that Nick and Gillian are eighteen.

IT'S NOT ******* POSSIBLE!!!

I've already come up with a whole new way to do the "Gillian finds out Paul is dead" thing.  Also, as far as I'm concerned Nick shouldn't even be in it.  He has no business being involved at all.  At most, give a little closure along the lines of "He's doing really well, but it'll take time before he's fully recovered."  Not that you couldn't have had a genuinely interesting character arc with a teenager who had a very violent brush with death.

I thought the whole "finding out her father's dead" thing was anti-climactic.

You think we should deliver the message that novels like this aren't what we want by NOT buying it.

At least, that's what I'm doing. I bought every ME novel before this one.

I was still on the fence, wheter or not I should cancel my pre-order. After reading your post, I think you have a point. Our wallets speak lounder than all the criticism and despising going on here.

So as of now, my pre-order has been canceled. And Mr. Dietz can go suck an egg.

Supposedly they do, in this story. I don't recall the batarians ever getting one.

Pretty sure they don't. I think they were kicked out like the Quarians

They(Batarians) weren't kicked out, they left on their own accord because humans were encroaching on what they considered was their territory and the Council did nothing to help them.

Finally found the itunes link for anyone who actually wants to pay for the book we all already hate rather than downloading it from some dodgy site.  itunes.apple.com/gb/book/mass-effect-deception/id493287045

Expected release date 2/2/12?  Why 2 day delay?  I don't often (ever) buy ebooks. Is this normal?

You can get Kindle for iPad and get it from Amazon, presumably they have it on release day.
