This gif sums up my feelings quite well. A look of utter disappointment and a disbelieving shake of the head. Deception has made me lose faith in the Mass Effect franchise. We know Dietz messed up writing this travesty but BioWare messed up even worse for signing off on this. I have begun to question whether this IP is even in the right hands after this.

Since I actually like the Omni-blade, I guess I should be glad it's not in there. I might pop my inflatable one in frustration otherwise...

Can't say I'm too surprised that this book isn't much good. What I am surprised at is how bad it's turned out to be. How any writer worth his/her salt can write a story without much research... I just don't know. What's up with BioWare and their choices lately? The Revan book was an utter disappointment and now this? Who's making these decisions, I wonder?

The novels tanked, SWTOR is tanking, etc etc.

Revan's book was awsome imo, dont you dare compare it to this crap...

What's Sparthawg's stance on Deception? Because honestly, I just know him as the admin who makes baseless speculations in articles all the time (examples: Human Reaper=Vanguard and ME2 Ending=Reapers wake up, both of which I personally debunked by actually contacting a dev and asking instead of just blindly going "Oh well it COULD be like this and then it probably is because it fits my vision of how Mass Effect is") while racking down on people for not citing confirmed sources like dev statements.

He seems like the guy who'd be the first to swallow Deception's bullcrap and call it expensive chocolate just because it was written with BioWare's permission and blessing.

So please, for the love of god and all things still holy, prove me wrong.

I'd hardly call Sparthawg as someone who makes baseless speculations, especially not in articles, but I'm not familiar with your examples. Frankly he's by far one of the most reasonable people on the wiki, at least in my experience. Can't speak for yours though.

I don't want to speak for him, but everything he's said to me and posted on the wiki suggests he's even more dissapointed than I am (I'm actually relatively ambivalent about the novels, it's the implications that the novel has about BioWare's general attitude that bothers me).

I'll put it this way, together we're fast tracking what I hinted at earlier.

You're entitled to your opinion but I cancelled my pre-order on it after finding out certain plot points. I'm not about to get drawn into a debate on that book but I was definitely disappointed with the direction they took, not to mention the writer. I never said it was on this level of fail but it shows me that they've been making poor decision after poor decision. Clearly, some of their decisions aren't seen as such by all the fans.

Things have really gone downhill since 2008. I hope older fans have a reason to be excited again but I doubt it. BioWare is pretty "meh" right now. I would blame EA but that won't really make me feel any better.

We can blame EA(like my stepbrother does) till we're all blue in the face, it won't change anything.

Whatever influence EA has had, BioWare aren't blameless. They've either made these decisions themselves or accepted them. Maybe, after this, we can stop with all this merchandising and attempting to take the brands in new directions and shift the focus back onto good ol' RPGs with fantastic stories.

Launch was quite impressive. However SWTOR suffers several developement issues especially in PvP. In fact when I started to do PvP I also started to worry about ME3 multiplayer. SWTOR class quests are OK but lacks of endgame content.

Well BioWare's problem these days is that they care too much about mainstream and casual gamers and not enough about their old fans, right to the point where they're making games that should be designed for long-time fans more for the potential non-fans they might bring in instead through pandering and mainstreamlining, and they just don't seem to get or care that it's putting off and pissing off a good portion of their existing fanbase, and even when it does get through, they don't really learn from the mistake at all and just try to find another way of appealing to both audiences rather than accepting the fact that you can't make a game that's really going to satisfy both the AD&D set and the ADD set.

Of course you could arguee that they want to get new fans and try more harder focusing on them than us, who already are fans. Can't really blame them.

So you find it fair to judge a book based on ( probably biased ) plot points? I'm sorry but i actually read the book and none of decisions made were "poor" at all (except killing the Exile but shes not even Bioware character and Revan is 1000000x more interesing). The rest was very well done given that the book was a prelude to SWTOR, and the storyline was supose to continue with the Jedi Knight class quests.
