So much for a discussion..!

Without any spoilers, it's worthy to mention that the characters which spawned out from Drew's mind (and BioWare as well) apparently seemed to have a much greater future (in the previous novels) but at the end of the Deception it appeared that the team suddenly ran out of ideas on the prognosis of certain character(s) and decidedly slaughtered them. This is what happens when you hand over a kingdom to a peasant... I am depressed and frustrated to say the least. Seems that W.C. Deitz had tread the path with the shoes on his shoulders (and that too wrong pairs) rather than wearing them along... :(

And this leads me to assume a very unhealthy "presumption" (I sincerely wish I am wrong). I am sorry to say that I am afraid to think whether Mass Effect 3 will live upto our expectations. Though in the EA interviews (Bioware Pulse) Casey mentioned that the players will witness the resolutions of all the prime decissions we have made over the first two. Let's hope that be the case instead of the last one raising more questions than been answered (on that note let me mention the fate of Morrigan and the G-Warden after they travel through the Eluvian; well that ending MAY be a point for the wonderful mythology, but in all seriousness - if that happens in ME3, I am going to .. @#$%^&*!!$ ... I don't know what I'll do...:o)

As someone in this thread has rightly mentioned - fanatism. I wonder whether Bioware team is recently reaping on this fanatism. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that Bioware has not got complacent...

Let's steer this discussion back to Deception, please.

Debating Bioware's other projects and the company as a whole is not the topic of this discussion.

So you find it fair to judge a book based on ( probably biased ) plot points? I'm sorry but i actually read the book and none of decisions made were "poor" at all (except killing the Exile but shes not even Bioware character and Revan is 1000000x more interesing). The rest was very well done given what the book was a prelude to SWOTOR, and the storyline was supose to continue with the Jedi Knight class quests.

No, I said I cancelled my pre-order, not that I didn't read the book. As I said, I don't want to go off-topic here and be drawn into a debate on it. You have your opinion, and I have mine. It's fairly obvious how split the fans are on the matter though - just go take a peek at the reviews on Amazon.com. I find it odd, however, that you think it's fair to pointlessly kill off a character because you find another one more interesting. Perhaps not everyone feels the same way? If you'd like to discuss this in further depth then, by all means, PM me but this isn't the place for it. :P

Take other subjects to PMs or other threads.

Our battle is with Deception, nothing else.

Things have really gone downhill since 2008. I hope older fans have a reason to be excited again but I doubt it. BioWare is pretty "meh" right now. I would blame EA but that won't really make me feel any better.

Well BioWare's problem these days is that they care too much about mainstream and casual gamers and not enough about their old fans, right to the point where they're making games that should be designed for long-time fans more for the potential non-fans they might bring in instead through pandering and mainstreamlining, and they just don't seem to get or care that it's putting off and pissing off a good portion of their existing fanbase, and even when it does get through, they don't really learn from the mistake at all and just try to find another way of appealing to both audiences rather than accepting the fact that you can't make a game that's really going to satisfy both the AD&D set and the ADD set.

Of course you could arguee that they want to get new fans and try more harder focusing on them than us, who already are fans. Can't really blame them.

It's very unfortunate indeed, but that just how it works. BW is not an exception.

Don't worry, ME3 decidedly wraps up the trilogy. There are no loose ends, you get all the answers to the big questions and nothing new is introduced to prolong the series.

I agree with your other point: I was very much looking forward to how Gillian, Hendel and Nick were handled in the future and how their characters changed.

... this kind of change wasn't at all what I was expecting.

It's like Dietz said to himself: "I have no idea how these characters have developed or how they work, so I'm going to kill them all instead."

I assume you're referring to the leaked script?  I haven't looked at it (and don't plan to), but you can truly say everything is resolved?

I bet thats exactly what he said.

They probably told him TIM, Leng, Anderson, and Kahlee are off limits though(as far as killing) because they'll all likely appear in ME3(I'm betting on a Kahlee appearance).

So he was like, "Well, if they can't die, I'll just kill everyone else!"

Dietz's books haven't all been as poorly written, right? Why this one?

It's such a shame that a cool, interesting, and honestly scary character like Kai Leng has been shown the way this book depicts him. I was really excited to finally see him in ME3, now I just can't take him seriously,

Hence the need for disavowment.

Then this can all be put behind us.

Love it. It deserves a lower rating but I'll take what I can get. Hopefully the professional reviews are in line with the user ones.

That it is, and Bioware was already made aware of our feelings BEFORE the release date.

Unfortunately, not soon enough, it seems.

But they can always disavow it.

I doubt that will actually happen. This is going to be the Mass Effect equivalent to the Star Wars Christmas Special.

I just don't see why a writer would work on a story he/she had no interest in. It always shows. I know there's the allure of the money and all that but what happened to integrity?
