I might be being overly optimistic, but I think Casey is as surprised as we are about the errors in this book. We don't know know just how busy he's really been but, if during August, he had a packed schedule, I imagine Dietz could have forwarded a basic document outlining the major events of the novel, and then seeking approval. On paper, the basic sequence of events might sound all right, and he approved. That's his 'review'.

Who knows.

I cannot wait for the official response to the fallout.

Hell, get Bethesda to work on it-

Who the hell is going through the reviews and calling them 'unhelpful'.

May I ask, if, by any chance, someone can answer, how high indeed was Mr. Dietz when writing Deception?

Who cares, one douche bag isn't going to affect the myriads of people thumbing up the negative reviews.

But even before the confirmation, it should've been known she'd appear at some point because hell, she was the star of Revelation and that book was released months before even Mass 1.

The forums have been clamouring for a novel character to appear in the games for a few years now.

There were plenty of good ideas suggested about introducing Hendel, Gillian or Kahlee into ME3 (even as a cameo).

Kahlee's appearance is quite well done, but now there's (quite clearly) no chance of seeing any of those characters again. Not in future novels and certainly not in other media, like the games.

Which is a real shame.

Naturally. It does, of course, annoy me.

You can't compare Halo to Mass Effect, Centauri. His Halo books are 'better' because there's much less involved.

Ahaha, that's true for Halo perhaps but I was thinking of his Legion series, which was pretty well received, as far as I know.

Surprised Nick didn't kill himself.

Not that his death wasn't lame. And Kahlee's dialogue, WOW.

"Oh, you just killed a long time friend of mine, you're a bad boy. But its okay, oh look someone blew your brains out. Oh well. Hey Anderson, lets have sex."

On pretty much on the same level as Ascension.

Kahlee was a Mass Effect star before Shepard was. People HAD to know she's survive all the way through.

And say Deception's not canon? Because that would make hell of a lot more sense than Deception being canon.

The huge advantage of making game characters mortal is that they can't fall into the hands of spin-off writers.

Drew's novels stayed away from mentioning Shepard and any of the squadmates, which was awesome. He innovated by giving us three or four unique novel characters, which were awesome. They all had unique personalities, character arcs, changed throughout the series and presented a good string of stories.

I'm more than a bit frustrated that all of these were killed off, and in ridiculously stupid circumstances.

Yeah, I did notice how Drew did his absolute best to not refer at all to the games' events except when truly necessary.  Helped keep them relevant for everyone who played the games and not coerce them to go down a particular path.

And I really hope they don't pull a Master Chief on anyone in the games.  Finish the fight, my ASS.

I don't know about that. Wait and see what happens in ME3.

I'm just saying: Bioware clearly don't intend to continue the novel series with these characters. They've already killed off all of them except Anderson, Kai Leng and Kahlee - and they've only apparently survived because they're game characters.

There are a lot of opportunities to be killed in a galactic war.

Intrestingly, Amazon's favorite 5 star reviewer is up to 64 reviews posted today, and it's only 7:22 AM EST. I wonder if we can make Amazon remove that 5 star review somehow, as it's pretty obviously completely bogus.

Honestly, it pains me that anyone could praise this book, even if it is some marketing shill.

Sorry for spoilers...

At the end Admiral David/Ms. Kahlee tries to convince the council that the Cerberus is harvesting an army of "reaper-ised and indoctrianted" Grayson. Now, if we see the trailers from Bioware sites and Bioware pulse, do the cerberus thugs look like that??? I don't want to bet as they were probably wearing heavy armour like protections...

I have also heard that Kai Leng will possibly make an appearance in the ME3 how and when - God knows) - without questioning its validity I would just like to ask Deitz whether for the sake of the fact alone that Leng can only be killed by Shepard him/herself (just to make the whole point overly-dramatic), was it really justifiable that Leng survives the novel even after repeated biotic attacks from the so called "Type-III" Gillian???!!! And Type-III..??? Guess... Deitz has created his own world of Mass Effect.

Moreover, I was wondering while watching the trailers, as to why the Cerberus was hell-bent on firing Shepard's ass (even for those who made the choice of preserving the Collector HQ) and was expecting that at least I may get an answer to the question from the novel... Alas...!!!

Further, Kahlee as we have ssen her in the past novels - she seemed to very possessive and careful of Gillian in order to ensure her safety and the fact to keep her at bay from the pro-humanity group. But in Deception at the end when Gillian said she was sorry while dying - by the behaviour of Kahlee - I felt she suddenly thanked God for getting rid of the biotic freak!!! Not a single emotion...!! Not even for Hendel...! I say Deitz has butchered the soul of the franchise.

Dietz's books haven't all been as poorly written, right? Why this one?

Time constraints, he had no interest in the franchise, AND he's a terribad writer?

That'll explain it. >.>

I just don't see why a writer would work on a story he/she had no interest in. It always shows. I know there's the allure of the money and all that but what happened to integrity?

How many bad Star Wars EU books are out there in your opinion? The same question for Star Trek? Warhammer 40K? Terminator? Halo? etc...

Some of those books were written by people who loved the franchise, but thought they could and should take things in a different direction. Then others just had their own vision of how things should work which clashed with that of the fans they were supposedly writing for.  A Star War example would be Troy Denning, I honestly think the man loves writing for Star Wars but he's done somethings, taken the EU in a direction, that many fans are not happy with.

Then there are writers like Karen Traviss. She loved mandos and hated Jedi. While she was writing her 'Republic Commando' series her dislike was fine as it was contained to her own characters, ones she created within the universe, and had no bearing on any established characters. Then came 'Legacy of The Force' where she was told to write populare EU characters like Luke Skywalker, and Jaina Solo. Both of which she either trashe or made look like idiots because they were associated with a portion of Star Wars she didn't like, but wrote for anyways because of money.

Dietz writing for cash and not for love is of no surprise to me wen viewed from that perspective.

When a series begins to have books written by authors outside the 'core creatives' resonsible for the universe itsef, you significantly increase the chance of bad books. They want to give other writers the freedom to bring their own talents to the table, but then they don't always have time to comb through a book those others have written to make sure they got everything right.

To be fair to Bioware, I do remember the 'Baldur's Gate' books, and their poor quality. Though some of their more recent work has shown improvment over the BG era stuff, they're still going to make mistakes.

The real question is, what do that do about them? and we will have to wait or that answer.

Pretty sure I read somewhere (not the leak, which I haven't read) that the armor was partly to cover up the reaper stuff.

I'm guessing that a thread that hits 250 pages of complaints in less than a week is going to be getting Bioware's attention. Yikes.

Objection !

since the doc is read-only so i post this,

Lore

18. Quarian Ships Visit Omega on regular basis and maintain a warehouse (debatable)

Tali mentioned secure drops in civilized areas so someone on pilgrimage could ship it home, this "secure drop"
imply a place that needed to maintain it's security or avaibility. So it is in the realm possibility that Quarian ship
or ships visit Omega on regular basis for whatever bussines The Quarian needed (Intelligence gathering,
Pilgrimages meeting places, etc)

Characters

8. Quarian Names, continued ( Is not error )

N7: Quarian Crash Site on ME 2 Lore.
The Quarian survivor named Lt. Forzan vas Idenna, no clan name.

While you do raise a point, it isn't that simple when you compare ME novels with e.g Star Wars ones. Star Wars is so massive and there are so many books on it, that I would never give a damn if someone would write the most horrible book ever and the topic of it would be about Star Wars. One book would hardly influence as much as ME book would, since ME is much much smaller compared to Star Wars.

Sure, some may arguee that Star Wars: Revan has ruined Star Wars (or ruined Knights of the Old Republic), but that baically inflicts people who are fans of the KOTOR series. I've read the book, and in my honest opninon, people are overexxagerating (as always).

And when you compare a novel by Karen Traviss, at least she sticks to the lore of Star Wars (well it's massive as well, and you can almost bend and brake it how you please, to some extent). But Dietz, he doesn't. I should read more of his books before I critize him as an author, but what he wrote in Deception, is unacceptable.
