Maybe you like her because she's the most brilliant, amazing scientist and she's so beautiful.

It's already been made clear the Codex is in fact an in-game Wikipedia. You'll notice it even contradicts the events of the game such as how it talks about Reapers or the "Geth Attack" on the Citadel headed by Saren. It's pretty much a subtle in-game joke poking fun at internet information resources that can be easily changed by anyone.

following that logic there should be no codex on ardat-yakshi whatsoever. but you know, Shepard acts like their existence is unknown to the galaxy, Samara acts like it's a big asari secret, the codex tells us it's a secret, and then there's a turian telling us how his precious wine/mead/whatever is collected in an ardat-yakshi monastery. go figure.

also i can't possibly imagine how an objective data such as the time of drell homeworld collapse could be intentionally misinterpreted in codex. it's just lazy.

The term "ardat-yakshi", as Samara put it, is a term from a dead Asari dialect. It's basically a play on mythos. What Morinth had was a genetic disorder which earned her and other victims that name because it was most fitting to their condition. Just because the name is known to a handful of people outside Asari society doesn't mean they know of the actual existence of literal interpretations.

And once again, the codex is like an in-game wikipedia. Just because wikipedia has so much information inside doesn't mean you should rely on it being 100% accurate.

seriosuly though, he killed her off? Wasn't she like...the point of two of the books?

Yep. He effectively killed any chance of a good sequel(should this stay canon) and gutted all the plot threads previously set up.

I honestly don't get all the outrage. In ME2 some pieces of lore were already controversial (like, things Thane and Samara say are not what is written in the codex). Of course, it wasn't as big as what the book's got, but i think it was the first sign that we shouldn't concentrate on the lore too much because even devs don't care about it. So yeah, i hardly expect any official comments about this book. At the most it would be "get over it, it's just a game" from Priestly.

Have you actually read the book?

Because I have. And it's not just about the lore. It's about the bad writing, nonsensical plot and horrible pacing. It a writer manages to make a heist and a bank robbery seem boring, they're not doing their job properly.

And then there are the character changes, which are at best unfortunate implications and at worst sexist, heterocentric and ableistic. Kathlee does nothing in this book except be Anderson's girlfriend (you know, the awesome scientist who was one of the groundbreaking AI researchers in the first book, and in general pretty badass in the other books?). Hendel is suddenly straight (he used to be the only established gay character in the whole ME universe). Gillian's autism has become pretty much non-issue, even when it was mentioned in Ascension she had severe enough autism to have sensory issues.

This is not only bad writing, it is insulting. Queer- and disability erasure are prevalent and shameful practises our media engages in every day. And to add to that by actually erasing (whether intentionally or by not doing the research) existing characters with there traits is not okay. Ever.

Someone should really ask him why he thought it was okay to have Gillian "get over" her autism. I'd love to see him try to justify it.

I'm very doubtful I'll be able to obtain the art book, lithograph, fabric patch and box art (yeah, silly reasons, I know, I'm just a huge nerd) elsewhere and I have little patience to wait for the other stuff to come out on DLC in the future, lord only knows the ME2: CE stuff didn't get released publicly for MONTHS, if not a whole year.

Anyway, I see your point and I agree with it in theory. Even so, I'm not cancelling anytime soon.

And I'm not judging you for holding those things to be important; just know that there is a price to pay, and that price is letting Bioware know that if they include enough little extras (that most people are dissapointed in - a 4 x 6 inch lithograph? Really? that's the size of the game box - lets frame that little sucker!) then they can get people to buy their game without quality being a factor.

By preordering anything, we are actively encouraging a lack of quality.

I cannot believe you just said you liked a Kahlee. I remember when the first two were released everyone hated Kahlee. She is a really generic character.

Lore inconsistencies/clear lack of giving a damn about lore plagued me2. It really is not suprising they allowed Dietz to do all this.

Somehow, with the release of deception, everyone seems to have developed these feelings:

Karpshyn creates awesome, distinct characters
Karpshyn has talent
Kahlee is likable

Why cancel the game? Dietz has nothing to do with the game (thank god for that). They are two separate products, and, if this was Bioware's big plan to promote the game, I'm fairly confident to say, that it failed, miserably.
I already canceled the book pre-order, shortly after I read the preview, but I won't cancel my ME3 pre-order, because I see no reason in doing so.

Cancelling your game preorder would show Bioware that quality matters, and they can't keep taking their fans for granted.  It would also encourage them to speak out on this, to do damage control.  If they have nothing to gain from speaking out, they won't.  It's that simple.

Also, preordering anything is the quickest way to incentivize poor production.  You remove the market forces that encourage quality, and show the developers that your loyalty can be bought by little trinkets.  No offense.

I see you point about making a statement, but 99% of people responsible for ME3 are not responsible for Deception. That is the work of Mr. Dietz (not a Bioware employee) and probably a handful of incompetent people from Bioware that reviewed his "work" and gave it the OK. It's hardly fair to punish the whole ME3 team by canceling the game pre-orders/not buying the game, just because there are a few rotten apples responsible for a completely separate project.

My suggestion is, to anyone who has the stomach for it and the principle to do so, cancel their preorder of the upcoming game.  If it can be demonstrated that a bad tie-in can actually decrease initial sales, that is the only way to bring Bioware to the table to open a dialogue on this.  I'm not saying you can't buy the game new at a later date (in fact, given that future DLC is a given, I see no reason not to), I'm just saying that this 'book' was a shrewd, calculated effort to boost sales, quallity be-damned, and until that ceases to be the case, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for Bioware to do anything but keep quiet about this.

I would if it wasn't for the fact my pre-order is the Collector's Edition which I made the mistake of cancelling once before and missing out on my pre-order when I tried it again.

My assertion is that there is nothing in the collector's edition that cannot be obtained after release.  Bioware is too shrewd to leave content permanently innaccesible to the market.  You may have to order it seperately, but the only thing I can see you not getting is a fabric N7 patch.  I guess my question is.....is that reason enough to encourage something like this in the future?

Not a question I can answer for you, just food for thought.

Ok, go buy the Collector Rifle and Armor for ME2 on PC or Xbox.

The same armor with the non-removable helmet that ruins cut-scenes?

As for the rifle, is it just that great, or are you compelled to collect items that were designed solely to get people to buy the product sight-unseen.

Like I said, I can't make your value judgements for you, but in my experience everything worth having in-game is available to all customers.  Little trinkets, extra guns that are superfluous or over-powered and armor that is nothing but window-dressing are not reason enough for me to pledge money to an unproven product.

That's not the point. You said that nothing in the Collector's Edition will be exclusive. There's no basis for that statement, and in fact ME2 directly contradicts that notion.

I bet that the Valkyrie, Defender Armor, N7 Arsenal Pack, Dog, Hoodie and Alternate Outfits will remain exclusive.

The mission and character, the most important thing, is confirmed as being available post-release. Soundtrack will obviously end up on iTunes.

At two points in the novel it's suggested it takes place in either 2185 or 2189.

That's either before ME2 (and ME3) or three years *after* ME3. Obviously, neither of them make any sense.

This *cannot* take place in the ME IP canon. The characters' ages are completely ludicrous.

I'm not saying every little tiny canon mistake should be held up for scrutiny, but there are so many glaring errors in this that it becomes very difficult to take it seriously.

(I won't even mention Aria having hundreds of family members, all using the same fake name she invented when she cut ties with everybody she ever knew.)

I can just imagine back in 2008 after people had played ME1 enough the kind of reactions you'd get saying that about Kahlee instead of Liara.

I honestly took 'Asari styled air-kisses' as not having biotics involved at all. I imagined them as being similar to the kisses between the plastics in Mean Girls. lol.
It'd be kinda cool if it was done in a biotic fashion. And weird looking.

I just read the mistakes google.doc ... and hoo boy am I dumbstruck. How can someone make those mistakes. I mean ... for real?!

This is not some mean anti-propaganda by disgruntled fans? Because if it isn't, this has to be the shoddiest work of literacy I have ever encountered since third grade primary school.

It literally says that it takes place both two years after ME1, and 6 years after Ascension (which takes place two months after ME1).

These two statements are within a few pages of each other.

Dietz just utterly destroyed Kai Leng's reputation. I hope ME3 can save him. He'd have to kick Shepard's behind and kill one of his closest allies though.
