As much as I hate Deception, you are giving "the room" far too much credit by comparing the two.

Okay, did you read the previous three novels or not?

I did.  I thought they were really, really bad.  Some of the worst writing I'd ever read - maybe the worst - and I read a lot of trashy books.

JoePilot wrote...
She makes the mistake of not trusting david anderson for almost the entire book of ME: Revelation, but has a very good reason to do so. She cares about the children in her care in the ascension project, despite having a rough upbringing, and acts beleivably, if frustratingly incorrectly in many scenes.

Suspicious and repeatedly makes bad calls when other people's lives are on the line.  Nice.  And yet everybody adores her and it never holds her back.  (Maybe it's because she is one of those rare human females who is quite nice to children in her care.)

She's imperfect, but her motivations are consistent with her actions.

Not much more I can say, really.  Either you like believable characters, or you don't?

She's imperfect, but she never has to overcome her imperfections because she's so beautiful and amazing and a genius and she's naturally blonde.  Character development normally is the story of a person's personal struggle to overcome their flaws and become a better person.  Kahlee doesn't develop, she doesn't need to develop, because her author already thinks she's wonderful.  There's a name for characters like that.

Again, if you want to discuss Kahlee in this much detail start a new thread, derailing this one just makes it more likely it'll be closed.

Actually, according the the "real" novels: "She's attractive, but nobody would ever call her 'cute'.  Her features had a hard edge, like she was looking for a fight."

Read. The. Books.

That's just describing a type of beauty (and I would bet large sums that it's a type Drew greatly prefers, since his characters all seem to find her so awesome).

But she's not normal.  She's beautiful, and she's humanity's top expert on both artificial intelligence and biotics.  That's not normal, not by a long shot.

Check your sources better next time. She isn't expert on biotics, she is top expert on VI programmes and data analysis. She doesn't work in biological part of project Ascension, she workinh on VI programmes in biotics implants.

You mean David Anderson, the horny teenager, and the Cerberus operative?

Strike one.

She's not that pretty - I don't know where you keep getting that from, unless you are projecting onto her your pre-conceived notions of blondes?  It's described as a dirty blonde, anyway - which mirrors her personality of rough around the edges; it's meant to be symbolic.

Furthermore, she DOES develop - she learns to not always trust her instincts, especially after they get people killed.  You're the one saying everyone thinks she's wonderful, when in reality, she's never portrayed as such.

I don't like her because I think she's perfect, I liker her because her motivations aren't transparent and predictable, and expressly because she ISNT perfect - she's just an interesting personality in some difficult situations.

EDIT: Sorry for going so far off-topic.  I brought up Kahlee to illustrate the difference between good, multi-faceted characterisation and whatever-the-hell Dietz does.

Deception sucks ass.

The Flower Shop Scene had EVERYTHING wrong with it, and it was STILL better written than Deception.

I've blocked JoePilot for giving me a pretentious written warning, but I'll make a new thread to fight the remainder of the Kahlee Defence Force in.

The third one from the bottom was a Dietz run-on sentence.
