Also why is Hendel telling Gillian to kill people? I seem to remember him being very protective of her and not wanting her exposed to this kind of thing at her age, (which IS NOT 18!) And why is he not throwing biotic punches around? O.o

edit: Could have been using the fight as training...

Because this book takes place between "Retribution" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", that's why. The characters you read about in "Deception" were among the first to be taken away and replaced with unconvincing duplicates.

He's "proud" of this book? WTF?

I had virtually zero interest in this book and absolutely no intentions of buying it.

Now I'm genuinely curious to see how it ends and I'm tempted to actually buy the thing.

He should be proud.

Kind of like the movie "The Room".

Tommy Wiseau as Special Agent K himself.

"Heh, heh, heh, let's eat your cereal, my future victim"....

Lies and slander. All of it!

If BioWare really condoned that ending, then I don't know what to think anymore.

Wait, wait, wait.

The point being that the same people who work with Drew subjected this book to the same scrutiny that they always do.

- Willaim Dietz

I just realised something. How picky are the editors, considering so far all books from BioWare have been written by Drew Karpyshyn or David Gaider (lead writers of their respective franchises), and the comics by Mac Walters (also lead writer, obviously). Obviously they will be used to taking things for granted. Why would the lead writers themselves put someone in the wrong age? Why would a lead writer forget primary character traits? And just how could the very writer who came up with biotics/magic/whatever make a mistake in how it works?

Answer, the editors aren't used to handling those things at all. I'm guessing they checked the bigs things. Did Gillian kill TIM so TIM's being alive screwed with ME3? Nah she didn't, so that's fine.

So in the end, I really think the editors from BioWare screwed this up if anyone. They let all these awkward sentences slide, they didn't realise they should look closer now that the author isn't a game's lead writer, and they love cereal.

I can't believe that bioware allowed this mistake about Gillian. 18 years ? Really ? They really thought we were dumb enough not to notice that ?

To me it suggest that they got to a point were they simply didn't care anymore.

Some of the stuff can definitely be atributed to Dietz. His exposition is nothing short of shoed-in. As is his writing style when trying to convey emotions or even actions. That's his fault.

But that these lore errors weren't corrected, that's where the editors should have stepped in. And they didn't.

Well, Dietz say: "...once the first draft was submitted they were very involved and reviewed the manuscript line-by-line, and suggested numerous changes."

The OP of the letter claimed Drew's books also made mistakes, maybe small ones, however not being a real hardcore nerd (softcore maybe..) I didn't notice them, since he was the lead writer of ME1 he should know how everything works..

AND Drew defined these characters rather well and these definitions have been completely ignored. Somebody didn't really care what happened to these characters. I feel bad mostly for Drew as he's responsible for their creation in the first place.

Well yeah, the actual writing itself is definitely Dietz'. All I'm saying is the editors should've slapped his fingers. Then again, considering what excerpts I've read in these threads, perhaps it's difficult for an editor to slap every single line. After a while it just gets too much.

Well yes, there are a few. Kahlee gets handed the idiot ball a few times, people forget some points of into in between books and stuff ("Reapers? what's that? I heard about them in the last book but I just don't remember...") etc. It's certainly not as glaring as what's in Deception, of course.

I never meant everything was the editors' fault. Certainly not my intention, that. I'm just saying Dietz wasn't the only one at fault here, other people were slacking at their jobs as well that could've made the book at least marginally better.

Disappointing. This is precisely why any lack of communication between game developers should never be underestimated.

Yes , it's not that hard to read through somebody's book and give them feedback.Dietz could have went back and read Retribution to make sure he had lore and other things right. If he had he would have noticed when Aria said by the Goddess instead of My God line in deception.(Not saying aria said it , but asari in general)

I can agree with that. Actually I think Dietz did exactly what was expected from him. New item to the ME franchise.

Especially when he says in his reply: "...But generally speaking task is to play the games and read all the existing books..."
