As much as I hate Deception, you are giving "the room" far too much credit by comparing the two.

The Room is funny as hell in all it's sucky glory. So bad it's hillarious.
Deception? So bad it's awfull.

We agree on something? Wow.

It's just that bad.

See? This DID bring everyone together. Even Pro-Cerberus people with Anti-Cerberus people.

Its amazing.

Frankly, I don't think anything short of Karpyshyn re-writing the book will remedy this situation. Even then, BioWare might influence him to kill off these people in a fashion similar to an actor being written off a sitcom because they no longer want to work on the show.

Well at least their deaths could seem tragic, not just ridiculous to the very core.

trees had to die for it to be printed.

I actually DO feel bad about that though.

That's a lot of unnecessary deaths.

I don't think declaring it as non-canon would change anything, we'd still have this novel (or it's ashes, depending on the person) and it's probably insignificant enough that it won't be mentioned at all in ME3.

All that would change is a sigh of relief from the wiki editors.

While it would have no real impact on the players of the games (which I'd guess would be the majority), it would affect anybody who follows mass effect as a franchise. The lore becomes critical to all new outputs within the franchise whether they be comic, novel, or game.

Which means any new projects would have to take into account the events of Deception.

So it matters.

'Course, life goes on. It might even be redemable if he had left many of the characters alive as they could just be retconned out of the lore of Deception. But...yeah.

Drew's heart was clearly into Star Wars when he wrote Retribution ("Dark Side energy" and the like), I'd be worried what would occur in a rewrite for Deception if he did it. I mean, it would probably be entertaining and a lot less bad than this, though.

"Kai Leng took out his lightsaber, he gazed at the cereal box which stood before him with uncontrollable lust."

If Deception ever garners a cult following as terrible things are somewhat prone to receive then all those people need to be not allowed to breed.

That would be a wonderful reference to the original Deception. Hah.

Unless it's a cult of hate, then I'll breed with the first girl I see.

Cult followings tend to wrap around things which are bad enough that it becomes entertaining or good, this novel has no redeeming qualities.

Yeah. None.

At least The Room was hilariously bad.

I chuckle at the horrendousness of Deception now, but eventually it'll get old.

Agreed.  I could probably tolerate the deaths of all 3 of those characters if they were at least written off properly.  Dietz just cast them aside, giving them simple, ridiculous deaths expressed with a 6th grade fanfic level of writing.

Which happens to be magic, yes.

Still doesn't explain how Gillian and Nick suddenly became friends.
