Mass effect fields.

Of course, that also explains Hendel's sexuality change.

That ALSO explains the asari-style air kisses.

Could somebody dig up that post about "your inner, asari-ogling straight guy?"

It was one we should have kept

Anyway, I'mma go from this thread for a while to read the rest of something infinitely (and that's an understatement) greater, and shock horror, (no offense to any fic writers here) it's a fanfic.

I'm still trying to understand the point behind the air kissing.

Was that supposed to be hot?

Posted elsewhere, but...

Read the initial preview and thought it was bad, but I figured I'd read it at some point anyway just for a laugh.

But I recently was looking at an extended preview on google books and...I couldn't get much further. The opening chapters are s***, but it inexplicably becomes much, much worse very soon after. Like, this is one of the, if not the, worst published books I've ever read.

Basically got to a section where Anderson and Kahlee just finished visiting the morgue looking for Nick. Here is the basic gist of what happened:

Kahlee: So what do we do now?
Anderson: First we go have dinner. A good one. Then we go home and tomorrow I'll be a shady businessman and you'll be my girlfriend.
Kahlee: I am your girlfriend.
Anderson: That makes you perfect for the role.
Kahlee: Why are we playing dress-up?
Anderson: Because there's the way you're supposed to do things and the way you actually do things.
Kahlee: Meaning?
Anderson: C-Sec will do things by the book. We're going to break the rules.
Kahlee: Naughty. Come on, I want asari stir-fry.
Anderson: And for desert?
Kahlee: For me to know and you to find out.

This is the point where I closed the window and knew that I would never read a word further into that book. It's so dense with horrible that I don't have an analogy ready and waiting. It surpasses that. There's bad as in mediocre, like on the lower end of professional work such as other recent Bioware books. Then there's bad as in funny, where at least you can learn something from the work and can laugh at it, such as Eragon or Twilight. Then there's bad as in there is no redeeming quality to the work. There is no market for the book and it is so terrible that it should never have been written, much less published, to begin with.

Bioware should be ashamed something like this might be part of their canon, and not just for the embarassing lore inconsistencies.

I laughed.

But really. What in the hell was its purpose?

I think it was just a greeting. As you know, Asari love their 'air kisses'. So much that they're named after them!

And now last scene of this epic performed by elcor actors!!!

" Strongly feelingly sadly - they were troubled people, but each was trying to do something good, even if they went about it in self-destructive ways. I'll miss them."

"Compassionatelly - well said. Come on... Wearily - it's a two mile walk back to the hotel."

Quickly - change of scene to romantic balcony with view on sunset.

"Dreamily - it's beautiful. Little darkly - especially after Omega."

" Questioningly - So you're glad we came."

"Indecribably feelingly - very. We needed this."

" Correspondingly - I agree. Suddenly seriously - but there's still work to be done."

"Melodramatically - but not tonight."

"Epicly melodramatically - no, not tonight."

Behind courtain

"With great dullness - did we really act in this thing.

"Resignedly - we must eat so we must play even in such stupidities."

"With deepest regret - my mother was in second row. She smelt so ashamed."

"Encourangingly - still better then acting in krogan porn."

"Gravely serious - not sure. Not sure."

Very apt. There's really just nothing there. The fact that Dietz and his handlers felt that THIS story of all things, would be something that the fans would accept and enjoy, is just baffling.

As Alistair once said: "You know, one good thing about the new Mass Effect: Deception is how it brings people together." On a side got a hold of a friend's copy before he burned it (not kidding) and after reading a few passages I've got to say. With my luck the damned thing wont burn. I fully support getting this book removed as canon and off the the surface of the earth if feasible.

It was most likely something Dietz thought would be really awesome. You know, like Bioware's "when you press a button, something AWESOME has to happen" type of "awesome".
That's how I see a lot of Dietz' stuff written in this book. A lot of it is really cheezy and almost as, if he was trying to hard to be "original".

What in the hell is up with the title for this thread now? Did a mod change it? Seems awfully tame considering the content of this thread....

I'm trying to perform an asari-style air kiss right now at nothing.

Not only is nothing happening, but I look stupid.

And then it became something akin, no, to ACTUAL torture for that poor person, and by the time he/she finished their IQ was dulled enough for them to give the green light.
