He's "proud" of this book? WTF?
Now I'm genuinely curious to see how it ends and I'm tempted to actually buy the thing.
He should be proud.
Kind of like the movie "The Room".

Because this book takes place between "Retribution" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", that's why. The characters you read about in "Deception" were among the first to be taken away and replaced with unconvincing duplicates.

Tommy Wiseau as Special Agent K himself.

The point being that the same people who work with Drew subjected this book to the same scrutiny that they always do.

I just realised something. How picky are the editors, considering so far all books from BioWare have been written by Drew Karpyshyn or David Gaider (lead writers of their respective franchises), and the comics by Mac Walters (also lead writer, obviously). Obviously they will be used to taking things for granted. Why would the lead writers themselves put someone in the wrong age? Why would a lead writer forget primary character traits? And just how could the very writer who came up with biotics/magic/whatever make a mistake in how it works?
Answer, the editors aren't used to handling those things at all. I'm guessing they checked the bigs things. Did Gillian kill TIM so TIM's being alive screwed with ME3? Nah she didn't, so that's fine.
So in the end, I really think the editors from BioWare screwed this up if anyone. They let all these awkward sentences slide, they didn't realise they should look closer now that the author isn't a game's lead writer, and they love cereal.

I think you're absolutely right.

To me it suggest that they got to a point were they simply didn't care anymore.

Dietz responds!
Well yeah, the actual writing itself is definitely Dietz'. All I'm saying is the editors should've slapped his fingers. Then again, considering what excerpts I've read in these threads, perhaps it's difficult for an editor to slap every single line. After a while it just gets too much.Iohanna wrote...
Some of the stuff can definitely be atributed to Dietz. His exposition is nothing short of shoed-in. As is his writing style when trying to convey emotions or even actions. That's his fault.
But that these lore errors weren't corrected, that's where the editors should have stepped in. And they didn't.
Well yes, there are a few. Kahlee gets handed the idiot ball a few times, people forget some points of into in between books and stuff ("Reapers? what's that? I heard about them in the last book but I just don't remember...") etc. It's certainly not as glaring as what's in Deception, of course.Eshaye wrote...
The OP of the letter claimed Drew's books also made mistakes, maybe small ones, however not being a real hardcore nerd (softcore maybe..) I didn't notice them, since he was the lead writer of ME1 he should know how everything works..
Disappointing. This is precisely why any lack of communication between game developers should never be underestimated.LOST SPARTANJLC wrote...

I never meant everything was the editors' fault. Certainly not my intention, that. I'm just saying Dietz wasn't the only one at fault here, other people were slacking at their jobs as well that could've made the book at least marginally better.

Yes , it's not that hard to read through somebody's book and give them feedback.Dietz could have went back and read Retribution to make sure he had lore and other things right. If he had he would have noticed when Aria said by the Goddess instead of My God line in deception.(Not saying aria said it , but asari in general)
