Well hey, at least we know ME3 itself is in reasonably good hands. At worst, most of us on BSN can agree it's in better hands. I'm sure anyone from the books who will be in the game (of which there are obviously several) will be written with a much sharper, um... brain.

Well yes, there is that. I'm faily confident Kai Leng (and whoever else comes) will be better in the actual game. But Gillian was actually the reason I wanted to read this book, and from what I've read and heard from other people, I'm not sure I want to anymore. I'd rather just keep the images I have from the characters from the other books.

I understand that. For me it's always been an easy thing head-canoning the most dubious elements of franchises I enjoy from my brain, though. There are a couple of Star Trek: Voyager episodes, for example, that are just mindbendingly atrocious and so I never rewatch them and... voila! They didn't happen. So you can always consider reading this for the lulz and then taking whatever quick snapshot recaps characters in ME3 might make regarding its events as the only truth that ever was.

I don't know why, but as I imagine Kai Leng sitting down and eating Anderson's Lucky Charms I don't see it a slap to the face(to Anderson) or smugness. I see Sad Keannu.

I'm curious about the age of Gillian and Nick so far, their both 18. Some people think it messes with the timeline but after brainstorming we don't exactly know when Retribution starts or for that mater Deception. And so far it kinda does make it acceptable. Thought 17 would be more accurate IMO.

Anyone have their theories beside Dietz being wrong.

We know they both occur before ME3, which is two months after Arrival, which is about the time of ME2.  They were twelve or so in Ascension, which was a few months after the game two years prior to ME2.  forteen or fifteem, at the most.

They were 15 in Retribution. Mass Effect 2 took almost a year and a couple months.

1.) "Retribution" is set after ME2.
2.) ME2 did not take a year and change from opening to suicide mission. If you're discussing opening to "Arrival" the line gets murkier, but I'm not sure where you're going.

Well see thats the thing I don't really know. Does any one know? The only thing I know is it started a couple months after 2183 the jumped to 2185. I'm only suggesting a year because of cerberus network news.

These are the facts

--ME takes place in 2183
--Acension takes place in late 2183; Gillian and Nick are both 12
--ME2 takes place in 2185
--Retribution takes place in early 2186; Nick is mentioned to be 15
--ME3 takes place in 2186
--Deception takes place before ME3, most likely a few months after Retribution; Gillian and Nick are 18.

Now, please explain to me how the two grew THREE FREAKING YEARS in the space of a few months other than author error or deliberate retcon.

I already have done the mathc and convinvced it is right. WHat you choose to believe is your choice.  Did you get me3 starts in 2186 from the wiki? In the leaked demo footage is says about 30 years after 2157 the year the ruins on mars were discovered.

I also got the faboulus chance to actually e-mail dietz. He said he may have made a couple mistakes ":)" and has read the three prior books. Plus he said that the book was reviewed by two high level bioware employees.

I'll deal with this the same way I dealt with the Black Market episode of Battlestar Galactica. It never happened. I really don't think Bioware will stick by this piece of work at all after it's released. Sure, it'll be hyped for a bit but afterwards thrown to the wayside. Hopefully.

Hey, I did that too. It's funny though, Bear McCreary busted out an amazing song for that episode. But the writing itself? Oh man.

I think I actually dislike "Deadlock" from Season Four almost as much, though, and it's pretty much impossible to reconcile that one.

ME was in 2183.  Ascension occured a few months later, probably in the same year.  Then Shepard spent two years dead so ME2 began in 2185.  Retribution and Deception occur at some point between the end of ME2 and the beginning of ME3 in 2186.  The timeline for the start of Arrival is dodgy but it is reasonable to assume it takes place during or shortly after ME2.  Two months later ME3 starts.

At most Gillian and Nick have a three year time span to age from twelve to eighteen.

It's cool to be a dreamer I am to but appearently it was looked over by two bioware guys and they changed her age to 18 so IDK who is wrong anymore

I can just see Kai Leng rolling out of bed, stretching, brushing his teeth, then settling down for a nice bowl of cereal before mowing down some people with a shotgun.

So I hated what the other thread turned into, and its probably going to escalate out of hand here too... but I must admit it the book seems to have consolidated all of the previous mud slinging into one thread. BSN pages are pretty clean at the moment. :)

Well here's the thing, bub. I very, very rarely sling mud. In fact, I'm usually quite clean. I shower frequently, and on top of that I'm generally very positive on the BSN. There are precious few things I have against the Mass Effect franchise, which means two things: 1.) I sleep easier at night; 2.) I'm fairly civil when I post here.

I only sling mud when there's a lot of wet dirt on the ground in need of slinging. And it just recently rained in Dietzland.

How bad is it when I first read that sentence and instead read it as "... And it just recently rained in Ditzland."
:P

Also, if Kai Leng is anything like he is in this novel as he appears in ME3, I'm pretty sure Shepard could take him down in two seconds flat with one arm tied behind his back and a half-charged Shuriken pistol.... <_<

I completely forgot about "Deadlock" lol. Yeah, that was just not good. Whole Season 4 has kinda blurred in my head. It was tough!
Still, "Black Market" did strike me as worse. Mainly because it was preceded by some great episodes. We went from the amazing Pegasus sequence to that.

Well, this book will be afforded the same courtesy eventually. I actually kind of want to read it though, just to glean some more great facts about the ME world. Asari air kisses are too much to pass up.

For some reason the fact that it was Anderson's in particular makes it especially amusing to me...

One of the main plots of "Deadlock" made no sense. Leaving the fleet without resurrection because one EDI got pregnant? Just no. Worst ep of the series for me.

This book looks like the ME version of the Holiday Special so far.

I liked the fourth season of BSG a fair bit overall, but the Tigh/Six gig was just nauseating from beginning to end for me. Absolutely banal. And then to end it in such a way as to make the audience wonder why in hell's name it ever existed is just... yeah.

Anyway, back on-topic now. Ahem. This book is funny.

Come to think of it, kind of strange that I don't think anyone has ever eaten in a Mass effect game.

Shepard can sip gumbo. Technically, drinking isn't eating, but she can get sloshed a lot in ME2.
