Oh, also, right after that:

"It’s difficult to say exactly how much influence the Reapers had over Grayson, but we think it was extensive.”

It's not difficult to say at all: the Reapers directly addressed Kahlee in Retribution. She knew he was completely under their control from firsthand experience.

>Kahlee forgets a major detail regarding the Reapers again
>Not big surprise

What's a Reaper?

Just oddity. Did you noticed that everyone except TIM and Leng reffered to Kahlee Sanders as Kahlee? Everyone other is reffered by second name, but TIM and Leng often saying Anderson and Kahlee.

I'm not joking. Pre-ordered from Amazon, and when I requested to return the book, they gave me a refund and told me to keep the book.

That's how bad it is.

[Okay, yes, it was because it had already shipped, and the returning shipping and processing would cost more than the book could sell for. No, I wasn't trying to game the system, this was very unintentional]

Why people constantly act like Kahlee somehow did that on purpose and it wasn't Drew's screwup, I'll never know.  Also, that's Anderson's dialogue, not hers.

That's poor writing, but it's not an error in Mass Effect canon, so it's not really what the list is looking for.

Oh god, Amazon giving a refund is the best thing ever.

I know (I co-worked on first version of that list, before it become Google DOC). I propably should better use word curiosity then oddity.

Day 01

I have reached the first entry on page 84. My resolve is rapidly fading away. I have witnessed... horrible things ranging from complete denial of events in passed novels, gas sucking to cereal bowls. With every new entry I feel as if I am reading a flawed wiki page... I don't think I can hold on much longer, but I must. I must march on...

Tell my wife I love here, and if I don't make it back, she's needs to be strong for our son. Raise him right. Keep him away from Dietz novels.

Since I just got off work an hour ago, finally got to read some of it. Up to Chapter 3, 46 pages in. *shrugs* Continuity screw-ups aside, enjoying it so far. Not the best book in the world, but not horrible either. Guess we'll just agree to disagree. It's not that I think everyone should love the book, I just think people should be able to express their disappoint better and without as much vitrol(and that doesn't just apply here, that applies everywhere). Sorry I offended everyone. Devil's Advocate and all that. Carry on.

I think Dietz assumed that because Anderson and Grayson went by their last names that it was commonplace in the Mass Effect universe.

To get back on a more positive note, I present to you Judge Dredd confronting William Dietz!  (playedbyArmandAssanti)

LLLOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRREEEEEEE!!!!!!

Edit: Actually, I can't believe how accurately this clip describes the book.  Dietz did kill some innocent people.

It really does...

"You killed innocent people." Gillian, Nick, Hendel... assuming they are innocent, never read the books. Always read the wiki instead.

"The means to an end." A paycheck.

"You started a masscre!" People who have tangible copies are most likely burning them, it's a massacre.

"I caused a revolution!" BSN... the famously Broken Base... is collaborating and agreeing on the utter failure of this novel... brings a tear to my eye...

"YOU BETRAYED THE LORE!" Self-Explanatory.

"LOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!" Don't seem too familiar with that word, do ya Dietz stand-in?

I had a feeling Amazon would do the right thing, others should know about this.

Although now I almost wish I hadn't caught this in time...

For a book itself, if you were to ignore the already set-in-stone Mass Effect lore, it is a rather simplistic and "easy read" thus far (Page 85) which I suppose could be entertaining for people. From a mere entertainment level I certainly do not dislike reading it - otherwise I would have stopped by now.

But I think that's just it, it's set-in-stone lore he is constantly changing, ignoring and with no care for the timelines and other novels goes his own way which should not have been allowed to be this flawed.
Other than the Mass Effect theme I also do not think it has much going for it, the characters are somewhat interesting due to previous lore about them and so far there has been little to no actual character build up.

Like I've said before, a lot of his descriptions about areas, alien races or whatnot just feel like copy pasted wiki entries. Which I suppose is fine for new readers, but at least properly copy the wiki entries and don't make mistake after mistake.

Simple, easy read with enough science fiction in it but that science fiction is completely and utterly wrong for the most part which could work for a new universe, but not one that is clearly defined for the most part.

Fact of the matter is that those "continuity screw-ups" are pretty much on every page.

Continuity and screwups aside? That pretty much what this 300 page thread is about. You can love the story all you want, its the continuity and multiple screw ups that has pissed everyone off.

If only one of the BioWare writers had made it instead.

Maybe they could have saved it from being one of the worst published books ever.

Any response from anyone at Bioware yet? Any word on sales? Anyone come forward who actually likes Deception?
