There is some discrepancy between the lore and the games here. In the lore you use the omnidirectional secondary relays to travel within a cluster, while in the games it's done with normal ftl.

Secondary relays are still described as "Secondary relays can link to any other relay over shorter distances, only a few hundred light years" in the Codex so i would assume that they are placed at that distances from each other making the game play and the lore fit rather well together.

Edit : cut down the pyramid.

I honestly cannot follow the ferocity and speed of this thread... so what's that about "inspired by a true story". My inner soap opera loving side is dying to know.

54. Dietz even explains (incorrectly) that you can't see anything when a vessel is using FTL.  Also, he seems to think FTL in ME is hyperspace:

But after entering normal space Leng could see the incredible space station that functioned as the political, economic, and cultural center of the galaxy.

FTL, hyperspace, warp speed, they're all the same thing. A writer shouldn't bother with such small details as the fundamental elements of the universe he's writing about.

Pretty much. If he were meaning to describe that you can't see anything while inside a ship at FTL speeds, then he'd be right. What Star Trek depicts is scientifically inaccurate, if nifty to look at. If you were traveling faster than the speed of light, you'd be outrunning all outside souces of light, so you'd look outside and see nothing but black.

In other news, I just picked up Deception and have set my coffee pot up for its first run of the night. Hopefully I will be done with the book by morning and I can start to re-read and annotate it to see if I catch anything. I can post pictures of the highlighter slaughter if anyone wants to see it once I start. XD

Because of the multitude of errors, some are saying Bioware can dismiss this from canon by saying it happened in an alternate universe, based on on a "true" story.

Might be off-topic but that type of quality for Deception reminds me of the novelization of Baldur's Gate. Anyone else felt that way or is it just me?

Well... I was about to order this book, now I won't. I loved the first 3. Man what is going on with Bioware? Apart from SWTOR, they are making the headlines for only bad and controversial things (Origin required for ME3, DA2, now this book).

We've posted the letter here and on our Facebook page.
The letter has been shared several times on other Facebook pages.
It's been sent to BioWare via their contact email address.
It has apparently been posted on the BioWare Social Network
It has been forwarded on to Casey Hudson, Mac Walters, Chris Priestly, and Jessica Merizan.

Nope that was Philip Athans - by the way i might be wrong but i think that book was where Bioware learned never to make books centered around the their main characters.

Working on a Hilter reacts video for this book.

Basically, the map pointing will be mentioning where the order is right now, and how it will almost be to the bunker.

"Soon, I'll be enjoying learning more about the Mass Effect Universe"

"Deitz..."

"Deitz completely bastardized the Mass Effect canon. The reaction is so bad that even the Mass Effect Wiki is thinking of declaring the book non-canon"

*reaches for glasses*

"Everyone who thinks Mass Effect is just a video game, leave the room"

If you do that I will give you the biggest hug ever.

I dunno what that book was about but, personally, I don't have a (big) problem with movies and/or books and comics that directly contradict what the game is about as long as it's set in an alternate timeline.

And yet, the lesson they SHOULD have taken away was not to let disinterested third parties write canon novels for their IPs.

Yeah, I pointed that out awhile back. We couldn't get the rating down, Seems like goodreads lets people rate things months before they come out. Fortunately the bombing I kicked off covers most of the places people would got to from goodreads to actually buy the book.

I believe Good Reads used to have a rating for 4.5. So there has been an effect.

I never saw it discussed, but why didn't Drew Karpyshyn write Deception after having written the other three?
