What page does it say that on?

Because that makes no sense at all.

Illium is in the Terminus System.

I'm more hung up on the fact that it's on the other side of the galaxy.

Psh, pesky details.

And not only is their no real feeling when they die, but their deaths accomplish NOTHING. At least if they had died doing something even remotely positive, we'd have something. But both Nick and Gillian die because they are being idiots. Hendel dies because he shot the wrong person. It's all pointless.

Oh haven't you heard? Uwe Boll is directing as well. :P

I kid, I kid.

But yes - I am concerned.

If Casey tweets anything along the lines of "Just read the first draft of the script - really excited about ME the Movie guys" be afraid...be very...afraid.

Major issues with it. However I need to stress out that while I firmly believe the other novels where complete piles of garbage this one was overall pretty good. Yes major lore problems but as a standalone book it's decent to good.

But it's not a standalone book, it's part of a series of books and part of a Universe.

No news to report, but as the silence from Bioware grows longer, I can't help but wonder if they were in a rush and just never reviewed this book before it went out, or is the more likely (in my opinion) scenario that they just thought no one would care that the book was written at a fourth grade level, and with a callous disregard for the canon?

Your scenario is probably closer to the truth than you would like. I know this a business and a company is out to make money first and foremost but I would like to think there's still room for actually caring about the products you're putting out for fans.

Maybe there is still caring, just too much assuming? Maybe they eased up on reviewing it properly coz they assumed the author would do the proper research to keep in with the ME canon.

Thanks Meteor_VII!

Wow this is really picking up!

They apparently seem to think this book is non-canonical...I'd really like to hear what they have to say if the found out it actually is canon...

So I stayed awake a moment longer to listen to them...

I like how the one guy who doesn't hold video game books in high regard (oh you can taste the scorn) only speaks about the really small errors rather than the blatantly wrong things, like say; the volus pressure suits. Or a character reappearing from death for no reason.

I've noticed a lot of the media does this. I think they quickly skim the document.

Maybe a note/list prelude should be added to the doc for all media outlets pointing out the most blatant errors. You know, things that would be understandable to non-mass effect players/readers.

Agree with this. That way hopefully the more blatent errors will come up in any further news reports.

Btw, found another lore error. In the book Omega is apparantly still an important source of Eezo.

Just noticed this.

If "Omega is still rich in eezo" is a mistake, it means a significant plot of ME3 is also contrary to lore.

Just FYI.

EDIT: Wait, the wiki says Omega still exports eezo.

So the book and the game are correct. This is not an error.

I think we're referring to it as "The Deception," for the most part. XD

Unless...none of this is actually real...

Then it's INCEPTION.

It's like Inception, but instead of a dream, it's a nightmare. And nobody wants to go deeper, except maybe Anderson.

Morning everyone, still can't get over the fact how badly written the novel is. And since someone here said, Drew's writing wasn't the best either, I even sat down and compared just the prologue of Revelations to Deception. The result: like i said earlier, I disagree with the notion that Drew's writing, and I mean the craft here, is bad. Because it is not. It's smoother, he chooses better words and the wordflow is overall way better. Providing snagit-pictures later for evidence. Sorry, but I can't let this argument sit here that Dietz is on the same writing level as Drew when he simply is not. *is being stubborn*

now, more coffee....

Someone's probably already posted, but since I'm back I thought I'd bring it up.

The Mass Effect Wiki has an open letter to BioWare up, and we have a nice big banner on the front page and the Deception article, asking people to read it. Apparently the letter has also been sent to the email addresses of some BioWare staff.

I'm sure fans would want something more forceful, but I really just wanted to express our disappointment in a calm, professional, humble manner, without making any demands or insulting anyone involved. Happily the other admins were 100% behind me on this, and we tried to get something out nice and quick, to keep this thing going.

I hope you like it, and get behind it in the comments (I don't think you need to register, but if you do it's pretty simple).
As for how to handle the content in the articles. That will take more time, and more editors with the book so we can hash those issues out, but in the mean time we've tried to make our disappointment clear.

Might be a good idea to cut down on the quote pyramids and meme images, gals and guys. It makes it harder to engage in actual discussion.

Can't agree with you there. I feel that even if you remove the lore errors, it's a mediocre action novel. The writing is still poor (A large downgrade from Karpyshyn IMO) and the plot itself is weak. Nothing is accomplished here, minus 3 characters being removed from the universe. Nobody has really achieved anything.

I guess I'm glad (for your sake and Dietz's) that somebody is getting enjoyment out of it at least.

You guys are the ones who will have the real work to do. My work has consisted mostly of skimming the book and regurgitating info. That and destroying the book's Amazon ranking. But you guys are going to have to make sense of this nonsense.

I hope Bioware comes up with some kind of response, for your sake. The letter is quite well written, so hopefully we eventually get a reponse. With both the BSN community and the ME Wiki behind this whole thing, you'd think they'd have to speak out eventually.

It is also quite telling that this is the only ME novel that didn't get an audiobook version. Either they knew it was going to suck, or the narrator refused to read it aloud, lol.

It doesn't lend itself easily to fluency.

With that many sentences starting with "And", "Something" and "But", I imagine it would be difficult to read aloud.

Hey Guys not too sure whos in charge with this, highlighting the errors red and blue on the doc is a help.

The news outlets only list about 3 or 4 errors on each report. So i think we should  get our 3 or 4 worst errors or the 3 or 4 that we think would help our cause the most impact and have them added to the top as an extra section ready for any media outlet to pick up.

Someone else proposed this earlier , I think it would help our cause

By the way we have another news report up:

Forgetting for a second that the recording of Grayson being implanted with Reaper technology is completely innacurate, how could he possibly have recorded it and placed it on a fake jewel that he had to have sent to Gillian before Cerberus caught him?

I can't see the Google Doc list where I am at the moment, but I believe that's already mentioned.

It's a canon-breaking, IP-cracking error.

Also, not to mention Gillian left the academy in 2183, before she was on the Idenna for six years.

Retribution happens in 2186.

So... Paul Grayson gave her a jewel from the future, because it had things that would happen to him in three years time.

He also gave it to her ^after* being implanted with Reaper technology, which means he hacked Cerberus' security and found a mailbox inside a jail cell, or the Reapers let him get sentimental.
