Yeah, some of the most ridiculous passages that we've been laughing at this week have nothing to do with lore issues.

Like Assassins breaking into houses and eating people's cereal. Stabbing folks with sharpened toothbrushes, eating Mexican food, etc.

Happy Bowls, man.... f***ing Happy Bowls.... :pinched:

Almost sounds like something Harrot the Elcor would come up with.

...Almost <_<.

About to start reading my copy. I'll try and get it finished tomorrow and bang out some re-written pages tomorrow and post them up.

I read the whole book, and I felt awkward the entire time while reading it.
The errors listed on
https://docs.google...._cmo/edit?pli=1

is very detailed and so far has an extensive list of many errors. How can so many errors be overlooked? It doesn't make sense and it's quite a disappointment. While reading the story, I did my best to ignore these faults and reserved any judgement until after I read the whole thing.
I'll let the list speak for itself, but the book was disappointing if nothing else. IMO, the book accomplished nothing except to kill off a few characters from the previous novels.

Yep, we've been dissecting this stuff for days now.

This might swiftly fall out of the realm of fair use.

So..should we post to the facebook pages?

Sounds like a good idea for people with Facebook. Twitter and other social networking sites could work too.

Hey everyone... for those who don't know, I'm one of the admins at the Mass Effect Wiki. I've been skimming this thread, and first I want to say thanks for all the kind words said about our letter. We're just trying to do our part to bring this matter to the forefront and seek some redress (or at least an acknowledgement of the concerns of fans everywhere) from BioWare, as are you folks here.

Now, regarding the points above, about Facebook and social networking, here's what I can add. We've posted the full text of our letter to the Facebook page for the Mass Effect Wiki, where it has gotten good reception, and have asked others to share it. We've also had a few folks from Facebook and the Wiki forward the letter to the Twitter accounts of Casey Hudson, Mac Walters, Chris Priestly and Jessica Merizan. And, for what it's worth, since that was done, Jessica Merizan has liked the Wiki on Facebook and also liked a comment referring to the fact that she and others at BioWare were sent copies of the letter.

Hopefully this adds a little bit to the discussion. Keep up the good work here, and we'll keep working on our end. Hopefully BioWare will listen to the fans on this one...

Radtacular, nice to see things going so well on your guys' end. Hopefully tomorrow we'll finally hear something - this stuff's rapidly spiraling.

Solidarity. I think we all approve or your letter.

I really do hope we get some resolution, so you guys can figure out how you are going to integrate this terrible book into the canon. It's going to be a tough job otherwise.

This topic is amazing you go to sleep and wake up to find 100+ pages since you left. I have read the preview and looked through the book. I second, third and fourth all the complaints.

I thought it was concluded that Deception takes place before Arrival?

No, I believe that Mac Walters stated that Deception took place after Arrival and before Conviction (that comic that introduced James Vega).

That's correct.

(Deception using its 2185 date) > ME2 > Inquisition (?) > Retribution > Arrival > Deception's 'canon' place > Conviction > Invasion > ME3 > (Deception again, in its 2189 date)

Yes, but the writing is pretty bad too, the problem it's not only the errors or killing Gillian in the end.

Even if you correct the errors in your head or simply forget them, the way Dietz wrote the dialogs and scenes are still very bad, as well the lack of depth in the narrative.

What a shame. :(

Yeah, that's been the other big topic of discussion. Some things we can integrate more-or-less seamlessly (even if it doesn't make much sense - like the batarians suddenly having an embassy), but others will be more problematic. Other parts, like volus walking around with exposed skin and not dying due to toxic atmosphere and low atmospheric pressure, and batarians having Tantalus cores, will be much harder to reconcile.

The one that seems to have people at the Wiki up in arms the most though is the fact that Gillian apparently up and grew out of her autism. Lots of comments on that one...

We should compile a step-by-step guide of lines, paragraphs, or pages to skip in order to avoid non-canon mistakes / face-palm embarrasing moments (essentially because they would be out-of-character).

Could be an entertaining attempt to reconcile it with the actual ME lore.

it's like "oh i don't mind them being slavers or pirates because everyone needs a hobby but man, they are Batarians, what a crime!"

Seeing the backlash been received for the book, I hate to see the amount backlash they get if Mass Effect 3 didn't live up to the fan’s expectations.

Deception isn't about expectations. it's about obvious errors that could have been avoided easily.

Thumbs up, my friend - the reading comprehension of this novel barely goes beyond that of an 8th grade level, which frankly insults my intellegence (hell, I was reading the Dune novels back in 8th grade, so this sh*t is really hard to slog through...). <_<

Sounds like too much trouble, considering we could simply ignore the "Novel," and have an actual author write the story.

Like... A monkey?

It will and it won't live up to fans expectations. BUT, on the other hand, it deviate into tripe and drivel like Dietz either.

The way it's nonchalantly treated is pretty insulting to those who have loved ones that are autistic. Granted, my sister is now way better off at 19 than she was at 12, but that doesn't mean she's grown out of anything. Not to mention it's a complete departure from Gillian's character. As I read, I'm having a really hard time convincing myself this is the same Gillian from Ascension.

I applaud you guys for the work you're doing. I can't imagine what it's going to be like trying to justify a Tantalus Drive Core being stuffed in the back of a batarian slave transport. Ugh.

How about a promotion where you send your copy of the book to Bioware for a free DLC code for a weapon? :P (Or just the torn off cover?)

An excuse for a 'recall' and way for people to vent their spleen at the book.

I read the letter. Well done, Spart. I think it's exactly what we need to tell BioWare.
