Oh,god. Just read the part where Gillian convinces the Biotic Underground to completely change their plans and go after Cerberus, after being a member for 3 minutes.

Or the part where Gillian 'senses' that two Asari strangers have biotic power. What a genius!

If the Internet were like South Park, we'd all be dead from Smug clouds.

We're famous like that.

More like infamous, in fact.

Well yes, that's probably the right word for it.

That's very Jedi-like as well. They're great at sensing the obvious. "I sense you're in emotional turmoil", the master jedi says to a crying woman. Or "I sense you will go far", the sith lord says to a member of the Dark Council. >.>

Too bad the actual article they link to is just more fan mocking.

I know.

I pisses me off. People who are into gaming culture telling otther people off because they care about gaming culture and quality control. That's just sad.

And ME is a story-driven RPG franchise. Should we not expect the same quality story-writing from it's official tie-in novels as we do from the games themselves?

And I just have to laugh at the "You've never read a truly good book in your life!" -comments. First of all, nice classism you've got there. Second, I have. I also read several scientific articles per week and produce dozens of pages of text. ME is for kicking your feet up and relaxing. It's not Pulitzer-prize literature, but it's not useless either.

That's also like saying no one is allowed to criticise the new Britney Spears album before they've listened through all the pieces Vivaldi composed. Which is just silly.

I really wouldn't pay too much attention to folks throwing one liners without real knowledge about how bad Deception really is. The best things this community can do is to keep this going.

What comes to gaming media, they are in difficult position. Relationship between publishers and media is symbiosis, they can't live without each others. Staff may think twice before going to ridiculate even tie-in material of big franchise because they are afraid that it would cost them advertising money and perhaps their chance to get interviews etc.

Exposure is still exposure, whether its positive or negative.

That's what we need. The more word gets out, the more power is behind the disavowing of the novel from the lore.

I know but.... still.

When did it become a bad thing to demand a little quality and effort? Are people really that willing to accept shoddy worksmanship? When we have the means to voice our frustration, why shouldn't we do so? It's a goddamn community here. We had the means and the methods to articulate our frustration and we did so. Are some people (Such as Rubin) really this dense?

Who cares.

One comment stated that "If they ever read a good book in their lives they wouldn't be complaining."

The funny thing is, we HAVE read good books before.

Which is WHY we're complaining that this is so abysmal.

Certainly have had a few good books in the Mass Effect series.

Force Persuasion and Force Precognition. It all makes sense now. The real title of the book is Star Wars: Deception

To be fair, Drew did include this line in Retribution:

[quote\\Liselle waved the hand holding the gun vaguely in their enemy’s direction as he tookaim, the physical action triggering the synapses in her brain to unleash a quick burst of dark side energy.]/quote]

I'm sure he meant dark energy, but he probably had Star Wars on the brain.

What is the color of your thumb? Green?

Perhaps thats it. Cause if anyone has a green thumb they must be pissed a bunch of trees died for this novel.

Yes, but throwing other fans of the medium under the bus isn't really the way to advance gaming in any way. And I hate when they say stuff like "This is why we canät have nice things".

NO. The reason we can't have nice things is because some dense individuals still try to defend stuff like DNF "because it's just a video game! It's not supposed to be deep or make any kind of sense!"

That's why the line is stupid, essentially. She sensed that two individuals from a species with natural biotic potential were... *gasp*.... BIOTICS!

Oh, btw - re guy complaining about the use of "adept" to describe Gillian's powers:
The more uncommon of the ME class names - adept, sentinel and vanguard - are existing terms with existing definitions and meaning; contrast this with, e.g. the "vorpal" blade that was unknown prior to the use in Jabberwocky.

As such, saying that Gillian is more skilled because she's an adept is actually a tautology - an adept is, by definition "a person who is skilled" and would be more skilled than a non-adept.

Just because the ME devs picked "adept" as the name for the class does not automatically make every use of the term in a novel incorrect - that's actually a fairly clever pun, and a nice trap for the ignorant.

With all due respect, I believe I found a far more dramatic summation of the book.

Seriously, you can apply EVERY LINE IN THIS CLIP to it.  EVERY...WORD.

I see what you mean but it's just there isn't much what can be done. Few people throwing one liners isn't going to change anything either. I have seen it happen many times, small fraction of people defending something really awful to the end, but in the end big budget products needs masses to turn profitable and they die if they turn into something lame crap, no matter how much 2 people out there are screaming about how genious the (insert the product here) is.

It works other way around too though. Write something different and challenging and you suddenly find your product being a niche and not returning invested money either.

Deception still sucks.

Another thing, the bit about power levels where biotics are ranked L1 to L3:
We know that there are implants L1, L2, ..., L5n (cerberus cyber jesus in space). The novel mentions biotic power levels L1 up L3; however, this does not technically contradict canon: The fact that it was never mentioned before does not mean that it wasn't there, only that it wasn't relevant, making this merely an ass pull

@J4N3_M3: Reading comprehension fail - he left the pistol at the security station. Given that it explodes when he presses a button on the stylus he's holding the description "something that looks like a pistol" is not inaccurate since it is a explosive device disguised to look like a side arm.

I don't really think Drew could've done much better, tbh. Revan novel was pretty horrible too.
