Ironically, Dietz previously made a good name for himself writing military SF (in his own universe).  He was always a midlist writer, however.  It was his shift to working on the IP of others that his writing became more questionable.

Because like many writers, he has the arrogance to think he doesn't need to adjust his style to that of the series he's writing for.  Just a quick day of research, then it's off to hyper-space and berylium slugs.

Just so much hubris.  A great author could come in and you shouldn't be able to tell the diference.

It honestly feel likes he was handed a rough guide to the universe, but then rather than contact the writers when an issue came up, he just made something up without realising that the answer was already out there somewhere.

But they are really good! (COuld be because I seem to watch this particular scene again and again. Still haven't found the reason for the actual LORE/LAW/ROAR at the end of it though...)

its probably something like when valve fans got uppitty about tf2 going free. most people wouldnt care, but then again, the people who do care, come from the same pool who would've bought this book.

If they can't quite manage this, then I hope they say that game and codex canon supercedes all book canon that questions it.
