Leng was looking at the roof and there was a thing on it and the thing was a Koragan and it tossed a reave at him.
Och, you got to be kidding me!!!
This is starting to hurt ... I mean physically.

Why does he tell us everything instead of just showing it?
Goodness.
This reminds of what Robert Heinlein said about exposition in science fiction writing. The example he gave was "The door dilated." Three words. That's it. And you get it: this is the future. The door is an iris, not a plank on hinges with a knob you have to turn, and it senses when someone approaches. Now obviously, this can't always be done. Sometimes you have to go the infodump route to get across more complicated concepts, but even then there are much better ways to do it than just randomly shoving great gobs of lifeless prose right in the middle of something that should by all rights be short and sweet.

Izmir is kidding. But it's telling that you have to actually search the text to find out it's a parody.

The games covered that.
The past books covered that.
This book didn't need it, but there it is, and those descriptions weren't even that good. They didn't even feel like they belonged.

Yeah, that one was a joke. If it's an actual quote, I try to make it appear so. The use of the word reave is so pathetic, because unlike throw or push, it's not obvious what it actually means. So you get a line like:
Gillian launched a reave
Launched? Why does it need to be launched?

The book should be called Mass Effect: Description instead, because that's pretty much what it is.
Redundant descriptions.

Do you mean like this charming description of a Quarian:
As was typical for his kind, the petitioner was dressed in a motley collection of clothing, held together by a variety of straps and metal fasteners. His face was obscured by a reflective visor and breathing apparatus.
I guess Quarians are like sand people or something?

Honestly, I thought Reave never made sense. And Dominate REALLY never made sense.
At least THAT wasn't in the book.
Lot of powers in ME1 and ME2 don't make sense.
But who cares, it's awesome power that fits character and looks to be part of Mass Effect.

Heh, not to me. Reave and Dominate still don't jive with me, so I avoid using Samara and Morinth.
Which means if Gillian uses Reave, I wouldn't use her either.
But we don't have to worry about that NOW DO WE?
*facepalm*

I wouldn't be relieved if the book's writing is so bad that you can't tell what's fake and what's not.

Dark Matter is magic in the Mass Effect universe, does anything have to make sense?

Oh, and here's the rest of the mass relay scene, which provides some much needed context on an earlier discovery:Slowly at first, and then with increasing speed, the rings began to spin as the ship closed in. Then, once
the Pictor was about five hundred kilometers away, the relay fired and the freighter was consumed by a vortex of dark energy. It shimmered and disappeared.
But because Anderson was busy making love to Kahlee he missed the transition from one state to another.
I can only presume he was making love to Kahlee slowly at first, and then with increasing speed, and then his relay fired and....
Now I've reached my limit, I there is something I can't stand in books is cheesy sex-scenes, I can make with the lore inconsistencies, the bizarre writting, Kai Leng eating cereals....even the biotics descriptions that came straight from the game, but badly written sex scenes......I....just....can't....when I'm reading I have a mental image of what's actually happening, so badly written sex scenes, means cheesy sex scenes in my mind.
Where's my brainbleach ?

Hendel had been watching long enough to give some of the employees nicknames like "Stick Figure" and "Four Eyes" and "Fatso."
So Hendel welcomed the knocks that signaled the arrival of some much needed caf and his breakfast.
"Do you like pancakes?" the little girl inquired, as she pushed a steaming carton into the truck. "I like pancakes."
Wow, Hendel is such a racist. He probably doesn't even like the pancakes that girl offered him.
.So she said "Thank you" and watched the waitress walk away. Could she sway her hips like that? The question went unanswered as Gillian took a sip of the drink, found it to her liking, and went back to watching the people who passed by. A half-drunk spacer paused at her table a few minutes later, called her "honey" and was about to sit down when she gave him a biotic "push." The nudge was sufficient to put him on his ass, much to the amusement of the Batarians, who laughed and made what were probably rude comments in their own language.
The human got up, told them what he thought of "bats" and stumbled away.
That's got to be one of the most awkward uses of a "swear" word to liven up a boring sentence I've ever seen. And now we call Bataraians Bats. It's like Japs, but slightly more confusing because there is an actual creature already known as bats.
Kai Leng had an excellent view of the Afterlife from a darkened third-floor apartment on the opposite side of the street. Leng sighed. He would go back to the safe house, get some rest, and visit the [i]Beggar King[/b] in the morning Positive thinking. That was the key.
Between pissing in vases, Kai Leng sighs, takes an excellent view into the afterlife, and grabs a shifty looking cow deluxe at Beggar King. What a guy.

Reave, on the other hand, is much more difficult to explain.
