I never thought about reading the novel before, and this certainly tells me that I shouldn't. Also, the author wrote an idiotic interpretation of the first Halo game. Spare yourself the pain.
Yeah, we're aware of Halo: The Flood. I had bad feelings nearly a year ago when I heard he was writing this, and look what happened.
ME novels are the first game tie-in books I have read but even I knew about Dietz reputation. Had a bad feeling when I heard that he would be writing the next book.
Then, what people have posted here, Deception is awful by even Dietz standards.
I actually didn't mind "The Flood" even if I admit it was the worst Halo book (Though Karen Traviss' recent entry has enough misuse of characters and ignored lore to drive a little nuts, it's like she use the thing as vehicle for expressing her distate of Halsey, but I'l stop as that isn't the topic).
At least in "The Flood" he seemed interested in what he was writing since he got to write the marines in, being a former marine himself or so I'm told. In
Deception... He clearly had no interest whatsoever in what he was doing.
