I am really curious how Dietz manages to find the names of certain characters, events or groups, but completely misses the part where those things had already been taken care of or killed off.

Searches for names and nothing else.

I'm thinking he got a clif-notes type synopsis from his handlers at Bioware, and just worked off of that.  I doubt they even told him about the ME "bible" of information.

By the way, question to everyone-

Would you consider this a "Hate Thread"?

Just a personal question. Cause we ARE showing pretty much nothing but disapproval for Deception, regardless of our willingness to accept positive remarks for the novel.

No because Hate threads usually in conclude     Hatedom

We all have very rational and legit issues with  this author, this book and Bioware for even allowing this to even have the Mass Effect trademark  and logo attached to it.

This is not a senseless hating on character or something for no reason.  Though Humors there are some serious, serious issues about  the care and quality of the product that Bioware wants us to  by.

This is pretty much how I feel, we're just showing concern for the quality of a sci-fi universe that we all love, right? It's important that we keep reminding that we're bringing the issue forward because we care about Bioware's creation, not because of mindless hate.

Good news, everyone!  The folks at bioware are bending over backwards to fit Deception into the canon of Mass Effect!  In fact, the devs just released this exclusive in-game screenshot of the citadel showing their efforts!
*snip*

Dietz, know what century you're writing in, next time.

I died of laughter. Then due to Deceptions screwyness seeping through, somehow magically came back to life.

Perhpas, but people do express their "hate" in a very civil way.

Which I like quite much.

Indeed. I'm still surprised on this. Sure, major hate was shown early on, but people are more civil than when about Origin.

Pfft, the ME Bible is the Wikia, for christ's sake.

Pride parade thing is actually problematic. Doesn't fit with my idea of copying plot from gangster book (well, could be mafia guys using people in Unions) maybe Dietz actually invented something himself.

I think he was just ripping off Gangs of New York:

Hence the thing with them having battle standards and outlandish clothing.

Thanks.

So he didn't invented even that by himself.

God, this is the fastest growing thread I've seen in a long time.

I think the last thread that grew this fast was when the Arrival trophy descriptions leaked on the PS3 network

I loved the first three Mass Effect novels.

I'm seriously considering translating the entirety of Deception into a Rage Comic, however, using quotes and passages from the book with herpderp faces everywhere.

I remember seeing similar comics about Mass Effect 2 and Lair of the Shadow Broker. That would be amazingly awesome! :wizard:

It's more like IP love thread. In which we demonstrate what we do to those who defile our beloved IP.

Also, in my experience, hate threads feature less funny macros

I never thought about reading the novel before, and this certainly tells me that I shouldn't. Also, the author wrote an idiotic interpretation of the first Halo game. Spare yourself the pain.

Yeah, we're aware of Halo: The Flood. I had bad feelings nearly a year ago when I heard he was writing this, and look what happened.

ME novels are the first game tie-in books I have read but even I knew about Dietz reputation. Had a bad feeling when I heard that he would be writing the next book.

Then, what people have posted here, Deception is awful by even Dietz standards.

I actually didn't mind "The Flood" even if I admit it was the worst Halo book (Though Karen Traviss' recent entry has enough misuse of characters and ignored lore to drive a little nuts, it's like she use the thing as vehicle for expressing her distate of Halsey, but I'l stop as that isn't the topic).

At least in "The Flood" he seemed interested in what he was writing since he got to write the marines in, being a former marine himself or so I'm told.  In Deception...  He clearly had no interest whatsoever in what he was doing.

No.  for the most part we've kept threats at a minimum.  save for a couple of users, the user-user fights have also been kept to a minimum.  But hey, I don't get paid for it.

Grim Skulls and Biotic Underground in Deception were such jokes it was nuts.

Biotic Pride Parade? REALLY?

*shakes head*

Pride parade thing is actually problematic. Doesn't fit with my idea of copying plot from gangster book (well, could be mafia guys using people in Unions) maybe Dietz actually invented something himself.

NOpe. If it isn't stolen from Carpenter, it's stolen from westerns. Remember how badguys always slowly ride through town to show who si strongest?

I think Didy really nailed this one.

I'm guessing they thought he would at least check his facts on the wiki.
