Oh no, I get that Morinth can do Dominate. Not Shepard as a bonus talent.

Bonus talents are purely a gameplay thing.  It's why you could slap singularity on a Soldier in ME1 and still not be able to equip a biotic amp.

Also, and I just realized this, but Dietz doesn't seem to know what an OSD is. Drew mentions them like every other page in his books, but so far I've only seen references to "chips" and "datacards" and the like. Whatever.

I think of bonus talents as not a gamey thing but an actual extra ability. Hence why my Vanguard got Slam but not a power that wouldn't make sense.

Guess its just me then.

You can definitely RP with them. I do myself. But that's a preference thing. The devs just designed them as extras for you to fool around with as you like.

Hey, lets mess around-

If Gillian Grayson were a ME3 squadmate, what would her weapons and powers be?

I would NOT want a squaddie with Charge.

That's my Shepard's special ability(along with Nova HNNG in ME3).

Well thanks to the book, we know what the odds of that are.

I find the combat very badly written....it feels like a description of a ME2 playthrough, my mental translator give me images of Gillian bringing the power wheel and selecting the Charge power.

I've never gone too far in the books, the only combat scenes I've read is the first one at the Sidon facility (and the brief combat with Kalhee), and it didn't felt like I was "reading" ME1, I thought it was pretty good, here it's just awkward.

Oh yeah, Drew can write a fight scene. He's also pretty good at describing and inventing various alcoholic drinks and tobacco brands, i.e. we get a nice, detailed description of what's going on whenever TIM gives an interview. Dietz, on the other hand, just thinks up another odd metaphor along the lines of "TIM smoked the cigarette." my personal favorite being something along the lines of "the tube flared as he inhaled the smoke."

Drew even handwaved TIM's smoking, by saying modern medicine rendered the side effects negligible, and showed his character by his preference for Earth grown tobacco over Salarian synthesized brands.

Wouldn't make sense, anyhow. Only a Level 5 biotic like Shepard can use charge. Multiplayer characters can use it only by virtue of gameplay mechanics.

Yeah, you need L5n implants for the use of Charge. No way Gillian could use it.

Allllllrighty, I'm diving in for another look at the google book preview. Not much yet, but there will be more coming. And my my, what have we here?

What if the group decided to kill Leng? Thereby eliminating the bait to draw the Illusive Man in? She would be a failure...And the possibility of that filled Gillian with angst. Such were the teenagers thoughts and emotions as all the biotics not assigned for guard duty assembled under the cavern's main floor.

She would be a failure? Is that normal construction in English I don't know about?

After reading the comments in this thread about the book I was a bit skeptical, but now that I read it I completely agree that it is a piece of sh*t. The writing is poor, and the ending is the worst ending you can imagine if you read the previous books. I hope this book gets ignored by everyone and Drew makes a real book later, to replace this crap.

Yeah, a lot of us have come to the consensus that this is book is better off ignored, lore-wise.

Yeah, it's pretty standard for hypotheticals.  E.g., "If I wrote a glowing review of Deception, I would be a hypocrite."

Honestly the best thing about the google book preview is that now I can just go to the bookstore Tuesday and read over the 80 or so pages that weren't included in the excerpt and I'm good to go.

G'night everybody, hopefully you guys will have some more humorous quotes by tomorrow.

The thing is, that's the only thing this book has going for it. It's so screwed up in pretty much every respect that you can't help but laugh at it - and that's why a lot of people are going to end up reading it.

Funny thing is, the forumite who sent Dietz an email linked him to this thread.

Makes me wonder if he read it.
