Yet? Please let that be a joke.
As much as I love Bioware and their games, they're the ones who should take the blame for this massive failure. THEY are the ones who green lighted this novel, and decided to make it available for purchase. The Dietz guy was hired to write a ME novel, he failed miserably, but posting **** on his twitter and facebook isn't going to change anything. I think they guy realizes by now that he screwed up, but Bioware should have caught the majority of these mistakes in the first place. Give the man a break.

While I agree with most of this, I also have no trouble recognizing that aside from all the issues that Mass Effect fans have, this is a terribly written book. No effort went into it. Unless it's intentionally written at a 6th grade level, in which case it's insulting to it's intended audience. Either way, no one should feel bad about criticising it. If this is a representative of his work, he doesn't deserve a career.

Now that may sound harsh, but the market should be a meritocracy. If someone can't write a better book then this, then they shouldn't be a proffesional writer. And big copmanies like EA certainly shouldn't be paying him as though he were one.

Alright, just put the Kai Leng/Nick error into Lore Errors - I also made it a red error, since it's kind of ridiculous that Nick doesn't remember the GUY WHO SHOT HIM NOT MANY MONTHS AGO.

I don't think its THAT serious. Honestly.

Since I have not read that particular scene, this could be a serious issue, but looking at the excerpt provided earlier this is just a case of Nick telling Anderson and Kahlee about a Man he did not know they were aware of. Thus just "A man named Leng [did this?].

I can not see what that has to do with Nick remembering him or not, but since I did not read the full novel could someone clear this up?

But they both were there when Nick got shot. That's why Anderson didn't pursue Leng, which led to his escape in the first place.

Jeff already posted it in the OP. It's the first link in the Media Coverage section. :)

I blame BioWare more than the author... BioWare employed this author, and didn't check his work, and let this ship

I just checked Dietz from Wikipedia and it appears he is 68 years old. I'm not saying that he isn't responsible for his actions, senile or anything but maybe this should have been taken in account when EA, whatever looked for someone to replace Drew.

He also looks like such a sad-sack, too. Almost makes me feel bad for the hate storm he has brought upon himself. Although...he did bring this on himself

Yes he did but damn it's kinda sad, 68 years old guy writing video game tie-in novels.

I don't know, I think that would be pretty awesome, from my perspective.

Though, I'd try to make them... y'know... good.

I think we are going to have sites like TheElderGamer.com and Sen1leR4gers.org and so on as we get older and I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't see anything wrong with 68 year old guy writing a game tie-in novel even today if he is up to task.
But unlike Dietz, we have been born during the era of gaming culture, entirely different thing than for someone older.

I think it's been mentioned.

I'm certainly going to back down from going after the author, but not for the fact that he didn' fact check.  Managing to screw it up when there is precedent is pretty bad.

Has this Tweet by Casey Hudson been brought up? Deception related don't worry. https://twitter.com/...362747836604417

I am thinking (hoping) Casey just has his hands completely full with ME 3 a month out. Probably didn't get a chance to actually read it...

Ok that is a pretty big oversight then, now that I know the context.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I still don't think they're gonna pursue this all that much.  They're just doing the bare minimum required to avoid scrutiny by the fans.

The outreach to Bioware must have tons of eggshells lining the path, especially with Chobot being in the game.

I think would should have a "worst-written single line" contest in here. I'll submit this as a contender:

The Illusive Man’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a tone.

Oh crap after some quick research I actually think that it's Grayson that shot Nick. However Kai Leng was present and still tricked Nick into attacking Grayson. So the issue still remains in Deception.

Its come up quite a few times through this near 400 page thread. What pisses me off about this tweet is, not only has Casey completed a final review of Deception and approved it. But it was tweeted on the 11th of August 5 an a half months ago. 5 months and no one at Bioware noticed any of these lore errors before release.

This is what I believe. He doesn't really tweet much during crunch. I figure someone just used his account to promo the book. The alternative is that he read and approved of it, which seems impossible.

The movie was a good piece of coverage (if only to let people know about the problem), but I wasn't exactly happy about the article that followed.

Ah well, no skin off my hump.
