I saw people calling Drew's books critically acclaimed in the last thread. When you start to think that I believe it is time to put Deception down.

If by "people" you mean "one guy who got questioned on that claim"...sure.

Hahaha :D That's another universe - not that it matters with this novel.
Hey, I have a request - can you check if the "until she was couldn't anymore" quote is still like that on page 223, third paragraph? I'm curious.

I r hope we will get some response from BioWare s00n, whether a flat out denial of any inconsistencies or an apology.

I'm not so sure it's another universe! There is a person early on in ME1 (either it's the smugglers, or the place where you can smash somebody's assistant) who says "Thank the Maker" ;)

As for the line, it seems to be semi-fixed. As in, a hotfix gone wrong. The line in the finished book reads "until she was couldn't read anymore". +1 for attempting to fix, mr/s editor ;)

Luckily, I'm a bread kind of gal, so my territory was not marked by another dog! ^^

Wow.

I almost want to read it now, because it sounds so hilariously bad.

It's the latter.

Dr. (Ilsa) Warren: Humans! Thank the Maker!
Dr. Manuel (Cayce?): Hurry! Close the door! Before they come back!

Supposedly a "top-tier Cerberus agent", but I think it's actually the latter.

Then it is certain: this *is* the end product that we have been discussing.
At least we weren't wrong the whole time. :wizard:

So, is it the same book as the one who was previewed on the interwebz, a few days ago? Or was that one just a cruel joke?

I haven't read the excerpt at all, aside from what's been quoted in these threads. I did go straight to page 64 to read about the Cereal Adventures of Good Kai and My Leng (cookie for anyone who gets the bad reference) though and it reads exactly the same.

Zhuinden also asked me to double check a botched line above and it's still botched. Or rather, it may have been hotfixed to still be grammatically incorrect but at least making sense. It depends on if he quoted it properly when he asked me about it or not. If he quoted it correctly, the final product has seen at least one more run of editing. If he quoted incorrectly (as it seems from his reply to me where he says the line I quoted is the same as he read) then indeed what you've all been reading is very much the final product.

Here's to happy reading tonight!

Damn, it appears I left out the word "read" from my quotation.
I was so focused on the "was couldn't" that it slipped my mind.
So yes, it appears I quoted incorrectly,  as that's the same thing I read, and yes, it seems this is final the way it is.

The one thing that would make this thing worth reading would be a "Not ME3 related, LOCKDOWN" halfway through because the lore is so badly handled.

They are fun reads. They pull you along the story, the characters are compelling and interesting. It's not critically aclaimed award winning stuff, but it's a good ride!!

I don't know what Deception is.

If you manage to read it 'till the end and not rage, I'll worship you forever. Because I certainly wasn't as strong.

Oh, and to the people claiming that Drew's work wasn't exactly stellar, here's the thing: it might not have been, but I enjoyed it. It might not have been, but it gave us very interesting characters and glimpses of the world outside of the games. It might not have been, but it read decently well.

This... This is picking up those good characters and everything else that were established and crushing them in front of our eyes.

I hate going back to the excerpt, but here:

The vehicle came to life as Anderson settled himself behind the controls. The contragravity speeder was powered by a mass effect field and would carry them from the lower wards to the vicinity of the Presidium where the Council’s offices were located. Kahlee was sitting next to him and Nick was in the back, fiddling with his omni- tool. The device consisted of an orange hologram that was superimposed over the teenager’s right arm. It could be used for hacking computers, repairing electronic devices, and playing games. And that’s what Nick was doing as Anderson guided the shuttle through a maze of streets, under graceful ped-ways, and into the flow of traffic that ran like a river between a pair of high-rise cliffs.

Introducing tecno-babble stuff like this is wrong. Was it really that hard saying something along the lines of "Nick was lost in the holographic screen of his omni-tool, entranced by the game that sprang to life from the multi-purpose device in his arm."? And that's not even the best I can come up with, there are probably much better ways of going on about this. As it stands, when he says "that's what he was doing" you go: so what was he doing? Playing a game? Hacking a nearby computer? Repairing another electronic device he had with him? All at once? (Thank the Goddess for Multi-Threading! :P)

I mean, I'm a hobbyist writer, but even I'm aware of these things!

Oh, and didymos, you referenced more than once now that Drew's novels had another great mistake besides canonizing the human council member. Which mistake was it? I don't exactly remember all the details from the other books, so if I caught it at the time I don't remember anymore. Maybe I should go and read them again to purge myself from this... thing. You can reply via a PM if you don't want to post spoilers here. :)
