I was thinking of canceling my pre-order, wich would have been the wise thing to do, I suppose. But I reconsidered it and decided to buy the book afterall, just to read through that piece of garbage, so I can laugh my ass off and cry at the same time.
And after that, I'm going to Amazon and every other place that lets users review their products, and I'm gonna write some brutally honest reviews about this travesty of a novel. I will do it mostly because it deserves it, and because people need to know that Mr. Dietz is an incompetent fraud. This novel is an insult to fans, to folks at Bioware that created the ME universe, to both Mac Walters and Drew Karpyshyn and to every competent wirtter that ever wrote a decent sci-fi novel.
And it needs to be exposed, to prevent that fraud from ever writting another travesty like this one.

I don't know why, but as I imagine Kai Leng sitting down and eating Anderson's Lucky Charms I don't see it a slap to the face(to Anderson) or smugness. I see Sad Keannu.
Oh, lord. Now I can't help but think Kai Leng may have been one of those kids always chasing Lucky for his d*mned cereal. Probably killed him when he finally caught him, and now makes it a point to eat it whenever he can. His way of ****ing on his grave, if you will.
GOD, this is ridiculous

Not going to lie, of all the fails in this book (and they are numerous), what gets me the most is how Dietz describes biotic abilities as "gathering" and/or "collecting" energy, like they're a DBZ qi power/spirit bomb/Pokémon beam or something.
Yeah this got me to. I don't think Biotics were ever described like that.

That's the problem here: he dumps everything when he's not supposed to and in a totally artificial way. He could either have brought that up in a more delicate manner to explain it to newcomers (if this was indeed for them as it seems to be) or just... not provide any translation whatsoever, and let people assume what it means (just as we have up until this point).

Oh, trust me - that is not the correct translation of "keelah se'lai", by any means.... <_<Iohanna wrote...
What sealed the deal for me was his translation of "Keelah se'lai" (in brackets no less!) just like that, in the middle of the text.

It irks me even more because it adds absolutely nothing to the scene. They are being attacked, who cares what some random gibberish means? Depending on the type of person, they'd just assume it's some sort of "stay safe" or "kill'em all"! It's not that hard!

Well, uh...OBVIOUSLY we have a CEREAL THIEF on the CITADEL. He's hacking your front doors, snatchin' your cereal up, trying to eat them. So you better hide your Trix, hide your Chex, and hide your Total, 'cause they eating EVERYTHING up here.
Edit: For reference, I guess?

Kai Leng breaks into Anderson's apartment and eats his cereal. It's basically his way marking his territory. One step above urine.
He's climb'n in yo apartment, eat'n your cereal up, so hide yo cheerios, hide yo fruit loops, and hide yo lucky charms, because he's eat'n all the cereal out there.
- Edit/ Crap! Someone already posted this meme above me in this thread....

Posting a link to the preview is fine, but postign a link to the full novel circumvents copyright and is considered piracy. DO NOT post a link to the full novel.
Thanks.
Hey, Chris: Google Books does NOT have the full novel. It's a PREVIEW. You could have at least looked at it yourself before banning people over it.

I wanted to buy it but it cost too much on top of the other 3 Mass Effect novels I just bought from Amazon.JeffZero wrote...
Please continue discussing William Dietz's Mass Effect novel here, pending admin approval of course. Let's talk about the novel and only the novel, and not mention anything outside the site's rules and regulations.
There is an excerpt available for the book, featuring the first fifty-plus pages.

To be Frankenberry, I thought that Kai Leng was going to be Shepard's equal, you know? Someone with Trix up his sleeve, who was going to keep Shepard in Chex. With this revelation, however, I don't know if I can take him cereal. This does not make me Cheeri-o.
BEST. COMMENT.

and with a very specific search - page 126. Then, all faith was lost.
But at least it provides a good laugh if it overcomes the urge to just lie down in a dark corner and cry in misery.
