You are assuming and giving too much credit to the regular mass effect player. Really since they haven't say anything yet means that their sales are going just fine.

You're probably right, sadly. But at least this has gotten publicity and they have IGN hounding them for a comment, so maybe we get at least some kind of response.

Hopefully.

Got IGN and the Mass Effect Wikia team hounding them. I think they will respond

And with sales I was thinking more long term with sales, if they continue to let products of this quality be released damaging canon they will slowly lose their hardcore fanbase.

Considering Woo just shut down a newer-ish thread about Deception I'm almost positive the folks at Bioware are just trying how to approach this situation.... delicately.

They have shut down 5 Deception threads in the last 24 hours.

3. Kai Leng and salarian curry - At one point Kai Leng eats some salarian curry, which is odd considering that he hates anything and everything to do with aliens.

I don't know if the biggest problem of that mistake is the alien bit, but more the "how in the world can Salarians have "curry", since it is a Western term used to refer to a variety of Southern Asian cuisine" -thing. Or, it is a reference to the spice mix... which is unique to Earth (or so I would imagine), so why Salarians would use it?

Nitpicky, I know, but still.

This.

The reason Bioware is not commenting is because any official word to appease us could hurt sales. That's why Bioware has not promoted the book, nor commented about it. What we are doing is only preventing a marginal amount of sales. The publicity we are generating about them publishing such an awful work does have a bigger impact and sends a clearer message though--do not disrespect fans and most of all, do not disrespect the franchise.

The fact that Bioware is silent means a couple of things:

1) It means they've acknowledged the debacle, becuase they have not promoted the book
2) By taking time to make an official statement, it gives less publicity (for the media to use) so that more copies of the book can sell during this time of silence
3) PR is taking their time to figure out how to "fix" this, again giving more time for point 2

not nitpicky, simply correct.

the research is sloppy, the writing is sloppy, the whole thing is sloppy. Maybe Salarian Curry is like Turian Ale, who knows. >.<

They've already made it obvious they aren't too concerned with their hardcore fanbase.

Was waiting to buy this book, then with this reaction decided not to, but now when thread is over 400 pages and still alive and kicking Im interested to read the book to see how it is possible to fail like this.

Maybe this was the idea from the start? Like, not really aimed at ME fans, but rather to the public who will buy it in order to understand what's this reaction is all about, this way maybe they can sell more?

In fairness to the Woo,  he's just shutting down those threads because this thread already exists.

The same goes for any topic,  if you post a thread about a topic that already has a thread devoted to it then Woo will shut it down and direct you to the existing thread.

Or, you know, not.

Drew said "I understand why people want to know, but I wasn’t involved in the creative process for the fourth ME novel," - I think we have our answer. ME-Drew=Lame.

I think I read this somewhere else, but William C. Dietz has officially become the Uwe Boll of game novels.

I wonder what fan beloved franchise he will ruin next...

I found another mistake in the novel that isn't on the list! When Nick is dying he tells Kahlee and Anderson about Kai Leng like he has never met him before! "A man called Leng," he says. When Kai Leng is also revealed to the entire Biotic Underground a few times and Nick doesn't seem to notice him.

In Retribution, Kai Leng convinces Nick to lead him around the academy, with the intent of using him as a shield. When things go wrong Kai Leng ends up shooting Nick in the stomach. This is mentioned at the beginning of Deception.

I hadn't noticed this before. So they'd met before (Kai Leng even shot Nick!) but the student acts like he only vaguely knows who this Leng guy is.

what's even worse is that when you read the beginning where the shooting is mentioned, it appears to be Grayson who has shot Nick not Leng. Now  I must say that I don't remember who exactly shot Nick, i have to check Retribution for that but if Leng shot Nick, then Dietz totally paints a different picture of that at the beginning of Deception.

Laughs... you've gotta love Hendel's internal thoughts after he finds and tracks Nick to the Biotic Underground's hideout on Omega:

Hendel was careful not to look around, or even glance at the guards, as he walked past. It would be a mistake to show how interested he was. But Hendel could think about the discovery and he did. You may be wearing two guns, the ex- security officer thought to himself, and you may have a girlfriend. But you’re still a pimply faced troublemaker and your ass is mine. Have a nice day, Nick. I’ll be back.

What the hell did this Dietz guy do to Hendel? Besides the whole not being gay anymore thing, this is just woefully out of character, and badly written besides. Hendel was such an awesome character in Ascension, he really doesn't deserve this.

Speaking of awful quotes, I think this one has been kind of neglected:

That invitation was followed by one from a man who took Gillian’s elbow and tried to steer her into a side passage. “Hey, baby . . . Need a job? Your face ain’t much but that’s a nice body. I can line you up for six humps a day. How’s that sound?”

It strikes me that Gillian might've been aged six years in three *just* so these lines weren't creepy, or illegal.

Wait, no, they're still creepy.

Lore issues and errors aside, the book simply sucks hairy monkey ass.

I know books of this genre are notorious for being sub-par but this takes it to a whole new level. The first three books weren't brilliantly written by any stretch of the imagination but they were cohesive at the very least. This one has terrible prose, terrible characterisation and a ass backwards way of linking events.
