Listening back to that audio, I realize that Dietz literally says the population of the Citadel is more then 13 million, and then later says that there are thousands of murders every day. God, this man is a fool. I mean, honestly. That has nothing to do with Mass Effect, or the lore, or anything. It's just dumb. Daily murder rate hundreds of times higher then anywhere in the world, and he just presents it as a common fact. How is that believable in any way?

Just did some math. If we are nice to Dietz and take "thousands of deaths per day" to mean 2000 natural deaths + murders per day, the average life expectancy on the Citadel is............

19 years.

The average daily murder rate in the US works out to around 45. So on the Citadel thousands die every day. Hundreds of those are human. Hundreds are unidentified.

Hey, I found a lore mistake inside this one! How can they be unidentified if the C-Sec scanners can sample DNA from skin flakes?

I guess if some of those deaths aren't muders, there must be a ton of elderly folks on the Citadel. What they are doing there I have no idea. Maybe you could retire to like a real planet or something? I kind of figure most people who lived on the Citadel where there for work.

The lore errors just keep piling up.

I just reread the passage with the number of deaths, and it turns out that 22 percent of the deaths are humans. With humans only being a small percentage of the stations population the life expectancy for us would be even shorter.

Come to the Citadel and Die!

You AVP I'm pretty  good a dealing with messed up timelines but I think just go a head ache trying to figure out  how this  whole  Deception/Invasion timeline works out.

I have a headache just from trying to figure out Deception...

then stop trying.

its just easier to pretend that the book (and all that happens within it) just never happened.

IT NEVER HAPPENED.

Just like Superman 3, Godfather 3, Matrix 2 and 3, and Twilight.

THEY NEVER HAPPENED <_<

I actually liked Matrix 2 and 3 and the Godfather 3 :?

What's taking Bioware so long? Declare Deception non cannon and be done with it.

Yeah, I believe that's in the Doc, too. His statistics are like 99.9% of all other statistics...made up. But man, you'd think he'd make them a bit more plausible...

This whole situation is probably going to take awhile. It's what day two? The the book company honestly has to reach a quota anyway possible even if that mean lowering down the price substantially to recover some profits. By then I think Bioware would say something.

So far I get the impression they're ignoring this until ME3 comes.  It's basically anyone's bet when their going to respond to are concerns, if at all.

Matrix 2: yes, it turned the mythology on it's head.

Matrix 3: it took a number 2 on the two previous movies.

Eh. What does a Wall Street chop shop do when it has something it wants to unload on the public before the price collapses? Answer: Put out a "buy" recommendation.

Pretty much. I think every book store is trying to get rid of it from their supply after all the horrible reviews.  I expect the price to drop dramatically then Bioware may talk.

I don't mind it as long as it not Male bashing in the process then I tend to take issues. Other than I'm  cool with it.

Ha, just covering my bases, I'm a straight male gamer too and I don't understand the guys who are staunch anti-femSheps. To each his or her own I say.

Anyway, it's not that it is even 'supposed' to be a Samara/FemShep thing, if it didn't say it in the notes, you'd never know it as the relationship has been simply growing in the background of the narrative the whole time. It's how the writer deals with all the crap that was never really dealt with in the game in a meaningful way that impressed the heck out of me.

With one comment denouncing this novel as canon they could calm most of this rage down.

Im hoping they do the right thing here by their own franchise and speak up. Could help with a smoother build up to ME3 not having all of us in a frenzy.

I will never understand that my self either.

That  good sir is the halmark of in my opinion a good romance you never know its actually happening until you look back and go... "Oh ****.".  I love how  cypher was dealt with and  the characterization over Samara was more along the lines of  what I would imagine Samara being... not cold but just very distanct...

That being side... Dietz needs to take  some notes.

This is so rare but it hardly ever happens when a businees screws up but, maybe they could just re-write it with Karpyshyn. It would be honesly cheaper move and they wouldn't have to actually get rid of a plot they wanted in the first place.

Saying anything just hurts book sales and doesn't gain them much, so I doubt they do it. Yes, they'll take a hit in terms of fan goodwill, but I doubt anyone cancels their ME3 preorder over it. Anyway it'll be forgotten as we get the demo/more trailers/etc leading up to release. I see this as more of a missed opportunity.

Thing is, it wont be forgotten, the implications this has on the Mass Effect lore is massive. And it comes down to the fact that Bioware are considering this novel canon.

The Mass Effect Wiki team are struggling to come to terms with how to integrate this whole mess into the wiki. Its a mess and it wont go away in a hurry without Bioware stepping in.

Just for giggles here it the Mass Effect: Retribution thread I started when if came out. It made it a whopping 15 pages before running out of gas.

Just a slight difference in reception.
