Just for giggles here it the Mass Effect: Retribution thread I started when if came out. It made it a whopping 15 pages before running out of gas.

Just a slight difference in reception.

There was actually some discussion going on there. Here it's just a massive facepalm.

I don't think BioWare is going to say anything. They are going to let this wildfire burn itself out. The demo comes out in 11 days and we will have something else to talk about. Not long after that ME3 comes out and they are probably thinking that no one will even be remembering about this thread much after that.

And another random snippet of BS, for your pleasure:

Leng knew the moment of truth was at hand. Would the colored contacts he was wearing spoof the retinal scanner the way they were supposed to? Or set off an alarm and bring a quick response team down on him? His heart beat a little bit faster as he took a step forward and turned right. A tone sounded and the turian removed the passport from the reader. “Welcome to the Citadel, Mr. Forbes. Please proceed to station two.”

I'm about to start on the second chapter of my Deception Audio Book (http://www.youtube.c...4A586FE9ACB107A) but I'd like to know if enough people are in favor of it continuing, since it's a lot of work.

Colored contacts don't even fool today's retinal scanners, how in Adraste's name would a sci-fi author of all things believe it would fool scanners from the FUTURE!?!?

I feel the sudden urge to buy a copy, then burn it, collect the ashes and burn them again ...

Do it, I haven't watched Chapter One yet, because I'm at work but I loved what you did with the Prologue.

I'll probably do my own version eventually, but with a far less serious tone since you did a ridiculously awesome job on a serious interpretation.

Thing is, it wont be forgotten, the implications this has on the Mass Effect lore is massive. And it comes down to the fact that Bioware are considering this novel canon.

The Mass Effect Wiki team are struggling to come to terms with how to integrate this whole mess into the wiki. Its a mess and it wont go away in a hurry without Bioware stepping in.

The Wiki team will just write it off, I gather. And if there are no more ME games then BioWare won't need to consult the Wiki anymore anyway.

I guess it's more of an issue if there are going to be spin-off games or some kind of expanded universe where other authors can step in. They'll find ways to get around it if they have to, though (as the Terminator TV series went around T3 for instance).

Its not just this thread, The Mass Effect Wiki and IGN have requested a response from Bioware about this novel.

And gaming sites around the world have picked up on this debacle. Its not just this thread anymore.

retinal scanners scan the blood vessels in the back of the eye, this was probably an iris scanner.  To be frank, you can fool actual iris scanners with a high resolution photograph, almost none have a live-tissure check.

This is truly amazing.

And so is the audiobook. It actually makes the book seem interesting, haha.

Definitely. My sister and I had lots of fun mocking Dietz's writing and listening to your voice acting on the previous installments. I'd like to continue the hilarity but I'm only willing to do that via this audiobook format. I don't want to actually have to read it. ;)

Boy am I glad I came to the forums before buying the book. If Deitz had made a few less errors, I'd be irate, spouting obscenities and curses toward Bioware and their lack of effort put into making sure the book was accurate.

But at this point, it's so contradictory and inaccurate that it's just funny. I can't take it seriously. I am mentally and physically incapable of doing so. Just an absolutely remarkable example of laziness by Dietz and Bioware's part. I just don't understand it. A quick 30 min glance at the Mass Effect Wiki would have saved him a lot of embarrassment.

Speaking of which, I'm glad I'm not in their shoes right now. I'm also glad they've stepped up and acknowledged that utilizing Deception as canon would virtually destroy the Wiki's lore.

At first, I was taken aback by the negative response.. I felt angry, let-down and sad that Dietz had ruined the end of the first Mass Effect novel series.. now, after much lol'age with this thread, I am determined now more than ever to read this (pdf only, of course - wouldn't give the wanker the satisfaction of a sale)....just to see the plethora of lore hiccups and weird direction this 4th book seems to have taken.

Downloading now, pdf reader at the ready.. yuss. haha...

When did they do that? Did I miss something? Last I heard the offical stance was still silence and shameless promotion.

Pretty sure he was refering to the Wiki teams stance, not Bioware

I believe he's refering to the admins over at the Mass Effect Wikia acknowledging that including Deception into the Mass Effect canon would virtually destroy the lore for the rest of the series.

And DIMIKLY, let's keep talk like that out of this thread.... we don't need to give the mods a reason to close this thread like the first Deception thread.
