On Omega he was somebody? On Omega. Oh well. Poor Nikkie was virtually nobody while being one of the most promising students in Ascension Project. His life was so hard compared to other human biotics - L2s with crippling effects or with Subject Zero.

He was way ahead of everyone his age when it came to Biotics. So he's part of an elite bunch, and he's way farther along in his development then even them. Oh, but on Omega he's finally somebody.

And then Gillian died and everybody was sad, "Nick" Kahlee saw Hedal say"use Unity" Nick heard Hedal say. Nick had totally forgotten he learned "unity" (life giving biotic power level 3) when he made short stop at the "cube" -Nick decided to use his power because he really wanted to go skating but also he didn't like the way Hedal looked at Gillian's body.

With his mind (level 3) Nick reached out to the biotic force and with his other hand he crushed a jar of medi-gel over Gillan's body (level 2 might be level 3 when she's fully grown Nick hoped) and Gillan came back to life - Kahlee looked at Hendel when he heard Gillian speak "I'm alive oh tank thank you nick..I'm not crazy you know".

Nick knew and they all went for a Sunday drive though the presidium. The End.

As you know, Nick has always loved Gillian. Every since the first time he saw her eating lunch when she was 12.

Also, kudos (and by kudos I mean my neverending hate) for Dietz for both queer and disability erasure! Hendel, gay? No! Lemme write him "oogling" an asari dancer with Anderson like a proper bloke (and I'd maybe let that slide as an indication for his bi-sexuality if it weren't for the comment about "going to bars to look for the company 'of the opposite sex'" a couple pages after that gem. No gay people in the future! Got it!).

You know I was going to let the whole "I killed the one and only undeniably gay character in the entire frakking Mass Effect Universe" thing slide because I am generous like that and didn't want to be seen as harping on it.  But first he turns him straight (I'm definately not giving the benefiet of the doubt here) and then he kills him?

#$%^ you Mr. Dietz.

A great and solid ending in comparison, at least it makes perfect sense!
Though considering Nick and Gillian are both 18 (as we have learned from Deception), they could go for more than just a Sunday drive. She should ride him like a landing freighter ship or something.

Hey, I'm just trying to imitate the style and feel of my idol here. Of course it pales in comparison to original.

Yes, yes. I added "one of" solely because of Gillian and her Singularity. With Gillian gone he must have become the most promising student.

And I definitely don't like anything what happened with Hendel.

Yeah, I don't know what the ruling would be on that. We're not spoiling Mass Effect 3. It's a totally unrelated property. The only reason these threads have been allowed I suspect, is because there is nowhere else really to put them.

Hydra Armor... yeah, I wonder if it's got three dragon heads or something. That'd be cool in a Dietzean kind of way.

Dietzean. Man. This guy is just causing fandom to invent all sorts of new terms on his behalf.

Youve got me a little confused here. Are you discounting the name of the armor?

Hey, this is Dietz we're talking about. He could have even thought that the Hydra meant that it was made out of drakes, or had three heads and could exhale fire. With dark energy, biotics and a pinch of element zero dust, anything is possible.
The level 3 is sort of fun about it, though. If I had to write a book, I'd definitely realize that sounds utterly ridiculous.

When Bioware cut leveled armor from ME2 in part because it sounded too much like something from a videogame you'd think that Dietz would relize that he shouldn't revive the concept for use in a novel.

And he didn't even get it right!

Granted its been a while since I played ME1; but I'm pretty sure its called  Hydra Armor "Mark III" not "Level III" in the game, you know because calling something "Level III" sounds too much like something from a videogame.

Yeah, first they cut them from the game and then they again approved Dietz to use them.

Yep. "Hydra III" in game. And by the way, Hydra has the same stats as default Onyx, so you can imagine how good light Hydra III really is.

I also love how irrelevant Anderson and Kahlee are in this book. Like you could cut them out of the book and very, very little would change plotwise. Contrast that to Revelation, where Anderson was undoubtedly the main character and Kahlee was the McGruffin fugitive, or Ascension where Kahlee was the sole reason the Quarians gave Gillian refuge. Or Retribution where Anderson put together the raid on TIM's base, and wounded Grayson and Kai Leng. Unless I'm missing something, here they let a Cerberus officer escape, get into a barfight, have sex in a Mass Relay, and arrive to the final battle after everything is already over.
