What if he said, "Wow, well if they all feel that way, maybe it SHOULD be disavowed"?

Not saying he would, but what if he did? How would y'all react then?

I'd respect him for it. I might not be happy with the job he did, but that would be an incredibly responsible thing to do.

lmao.... so apparently biotics don't just have "DragonBall" power levels now, according to Dietz.... they also have a Spider-sense that warns them:

Gillian had acquired some street smarts by that time and knew how to avoid the hustlers. One of the most important tactics was to keep moving. But as she walked past a store specializing in armor, she felt a strange tingling sensation between her shoulder blades, and paused to look around. It wasn’t the first time. Gillian had experienced a similar feeling the day before. Was someone watching her?

The simple answer was “yes.” Everyone was watching everyone on Omega. Either in hopes of taking advantage of them somehow or in an effort to protect themselves from harm. So, having scanned her surroundings without identifying a specific threat, Gillian continued on.

Next book, omni-blades are biotic swords of light that cut through anything!

He would regain.. .some respect in my eys... at least admitting that he was wrong. Instead of the positon that he is taking now.

it will always get  Bioware to take more notice as  well.

There would be a lot of respect given, everyone can and does screwup.  We've all half-assed a job or just plain screwed up something we were paid to do.  Admitting it in the face of such a backlash takes guts even if it is the right thing to do.

Except cortosis and, somehow, because it is what it is, beryllium.

And there will be mining for unobtanium in the forests and hills of Omega.

On a side note, talked to Xeltan in ME1 after going to Sha'ira so I can't get the trinket. Makes me almost feel as bad as knowing that this book was allowed to be released. No, that's a lie. It's nowhere near as bad but just makes me a little sad. :(

One time I did that without having a savegame to revert to. Raaaaage!

(Then when I did get it, I promptly forgot to go to Eletania because I already had resources/medals/asari writings and stopped planet scanning)

If you import that into ME2, you can use Gibbed's editor to adjust the plot flags and trick the game into thinking you have the trinket and used it.

That's another thing: I'm a bit surprised and frustrated by how much the wider universe has diverged away from some of the themes and conflicts of ME to focus almost *entirely* on Cerberus.

All of the novels after Revelations are related to the organisation, most of the comics, ME2, most of ME3... by the interviews with the writers it sounds like the series wasn't originally meant to be this focused on them (and I'm sure they wouldn't have called them an Alliance black ops group if they'd planned TIM from the outset).

It just strikes me that a lot of the subtlties of Alliance politics and Terra Firma were never mentioned after ME, and instead we have the monolithic Cerberus who are very clearly an antagonist. Even the Alliance sympathisers for Cerberus were never mentioned after the first game.

We would all love a formal apology from some source. But no, this would be an incredibly irresponsible thing for Dietz to do. You can not write a book for a company, then publicly belittle it (no matter how bad and deserving). He has a contract with Bioware, whether the job is complete or not, it would be unwise for him to acknowledge the backlash....that's Bioware's job.

Id give Dietz respect if he admits some of the fault of this debacle. He really didnt do his homework before jumping in and writing about the Mass Effect universe.

Bioware still should have picked up on some of this stuff though when reviewing drafts line by line, and getting a final review by Casey Hudson.

well i think it's opputunity for him to learn from his mistakes, cause the only way you can get better is to acknowledge you did wrong.  if he say's this in some form another  then we can more on from there and he can learn from this experience that's the hope anyway

One of the following four options must be true:

  • BioWare personnel approved of the contents of Deception.
  • BioWare personnel did not care either way about the contents of Deception.
  • BioWare personnel did not approve of Deception, but were unable to exert enough influence to change direction, either because of circumstance, prior agreement, or being overruled from above.
  • BioWare did not approve, were able to exert enough influence to prevent publication, but decided in the end to agree to its publication due to some other more important short- or long-term goal regarding the direction of the company.

We don't know which one.

yeah blame can be put on both parties involve.  i want them to admit they both screwed up and apologise but i know that's little to hopeful. a little transparency wouldn't hurt

It would be unwise for him to acknowledge the backlash, yes. It would also be far more responsible of him to say that he goofed up than for him to say, "I dunno what you guys are talking about, it's great!" I still think he and BioWare both have a stake in this debacle, so they both should be coming out about it honestly.

Has anyone read Dietz Hitman book or Halo :the flood books . . .and if so what are your thoughts?

Yap Flap or whatever his name is was the most endearing character of all time.

This! Oh, good memories.

I didn't mind The Flood, at all. The way it followed the marines was actually quite interesting.

OH MY GOD.

My friend just posted a thing on facebook that says, "Pick up the book nearest to you. Turn to page 45. The first sentence on that page describes your sex life in 2012." Guess what book is next to me...?

I'm scared.

For Deception, that sentence would be.....

“That’s where I heard about him,” McCann said, as his eyes came back up.

Kindle version here:

They dropped two levels down and made their way through increasingly claustrophobic streets lined with bars, strip joints, and sim clubs.

It's gonna be a fun year! And i get to find out what a sim club is.

This book disappoints all around.

Edit: Now, the Kindle version is interesting...LOL.
