Man, I couldn't even get a funny line out of that.
This book disappoints all around.
Edit: Now, the Kindle version is interesting...LOL.
Would have been funny if it said:
"That's what I heard about him," McCann said, as his eyes came back up.
Hahahahaha. Yeah, that would've been more amusing.
Edit: WHAT. THE. F--K? http://www.tor.com/b...ks-for-february
That's from Dietz's Twitter...DIETZ!!!
Edit for format

I believe he's refering to the admins over at the Mass Effect Wikia acknowledging that including Deception into the Mass Effect canon would virtually destroy the lore for the rest of the series.dcal31 wrote...

Speaking of which, I'm glad I'm not in their shoes right now. I'm also glad they've stepped up and acknowledged that utilizing Deception as canon would virtually destroy the Wiki's lore.
When did they do that? Did I miss something? Last I heard the offical stance was still silence and shameless promotion.
And DIMIKLY, let's keep talk like that out of this thread.... we don't need to give the mods a reason to close this thread like the first Deception thread.
Yes I was referring to the ME Wiki team, sorry for any confusion. I had just read their letter to Bioware.
If they don't respond, I just feel it's a little shady. I mean, the ME Wiki is awesome, I used to spend hours on it. After all that dedication on their part, to go through this near the climax of the series is anti-climactic. Bioware allowed a book that contradicts a plethora of examples of established lore to go uncorrected, and now the Wiki team (instead of lavishing in their successful maintenance of the Wiki as ME3 draws near), must sit on their hands while it's decided whether or not this book is canon.
Seems a little shady imo.

Once the group arrived home Nick slipped away, went to his room, and locked the door. Then, while lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, Nick thought about his parents. He should contact them—and Kahlee too. Or maybe he shouldn’t. What would they think about what he’d done? The thought followed him into a troubled sleep, and a place where people fought each other for reasons they didn’t understand, as part of a war that nobody could win.

Interesting, the first is a quote from Retribution and the second is from Deception.Anderson tried to fight back as the gun slipped from his suddenly nerveless fingers by bringing his knee up toward Kai Leng’s groin. But he blocked the move by turning his hips so the blow only struck him in the meat of his thigh.
McCann raised his left hand, and Leng blocked the downward blow, but took a knee in the crotch. Or would have except he turned his hips at the last moment and took the blow on his right thigh.
So Leng is a contortionist now eh? what can this man not do. <_<
Even Gillian gets in on the Kai Leng groin action...
She felt the contact, saw the look of surprise on Leng’s face, and tried to knee him in the groin.

Dear lord, this man can not write a fight scene. Contact from what?, was she even close enough to knee him in the groin.

All those picks came from a corporate buyer who clearly had not read that book. All she was saying was that it would be popular, likely because of the Mass Effect tie-in. I think perhaps if that buyer had been aware of the backlash that was to come, she would not have picked it.

Great. I bring it up because my friend found it on Dietz's Twitter a few minutes ago.
Still trying to dig himself out of a hole, maybe?

Like being on the Top Seller list is going cover up all the errors and poor writing in this book. This can always back fire in or favor... once people start to say read it and see first hand how bad it is and the mistakes.
But what you should do is Post a comment with the Google.doc line in the commments letting all that come to the page know. The book is complete garbage.
Nothing beats spin like a constant barrage of the truth.

Yeah, good point. There are a few comments on the article that are anti-Deception, though...one with the google doc attached. At least we're covered there.

It's a much more entertaining read than the original, but in Chapter 1 it falls into the same lore error as Dietz's work. When you talk about the council, you bring up that they're multi-races. While some of us chose to have either the original council with Udina/Anderson taking the human councilor role or a human chairman with whatever other council members would arise, some others chose for a human-exclusive council in the end of ME1.
Just saying you might want to change that to accommodate those renegades around BSN. Ascension and Retribution got away with it so Deception should be no different.
It's been established as Mass Effect 'canon' that the Council is multi-species.
There's a reason Ascension, Retribution and Deception had them in there - ME3 has it also, and it forms a significant plot point.
If you wanted to explain it, just think that in the two years since Shepard's death, protests from alien species and the threat of military action (the turians and asari, say) forced even the human-exclusive Council to admit alien members as 'advisors'.
I forget whether the Council was human-exclusive in ME2 if you killed the original one, but by the time of ME3 it definitely has alien members.
Some people might not be happy about it, but just consider that Udina's intention to seize control at the end of Mass Effect was only ever optimistic, and not guaranteed.

It's disgusting business pratice...and I wish once in awhile a corperation would just own up to a mistake. Consumers are just another part of the quarterly statement at the end of the day, we may not like it...hell even they might not like it. But thats normally the most importent factor.
I really don't like to think about it like this...I would like to think Bioware is better then that...and actually care enough about their quality to say SOMETHING that actually relates to this.

It's okay. If Dietz is still putting stuff like this out, then it shows we're gonna have to bunker down for a bit longer and keep fighting...

I never understood how would the other races accept an all human council, even if the council is dead and Shep is renegado, is like a coup.
They wouldn't. That's why Bioware wrote that out of the canon. The only way you can keep that feature in your canon is if you never play further then ME1.

Yeah, I always interpreted it as something Udina said in the heat of the moment, absolutely no one would have gone through with it.
In any case, how about that Deception?
