Just shameless promotion...nothing more....Bioware probably wont ever say anything...their just gonna stay quiet until this movement runs out of steam and sweep it under the rug like it never happend. They are a corporation...thats what corporations do. They NEVER say anything that in any way, shape or form gives ppl reason to not buy their product. Be it an apology, saying you can ignore it, that it's not canon or w/e. Any answer that would satisfy us would say it's ok to ignore this product. Which for a corporation is simply not ok, no matter if they agree with our assesment or not.

It's disgusting business pratice...and I wish once in awhile a corperation would just own up to a mistake. Consumers are just another part of the quarterly statement at the end of the day, we may not like it...hell even they might not like it. But thats normally the most importent factor.

I really don't like to think about it like this...I would like to think Bioware is better then that...and actually care enough about their quality to say SOMETHING that actually relates to this.

That's why we can't stop until they release a statement. When people talk about one Bioware game, they normally bring up other Bioware games as well. Bioware is one of the few developers that can say that they have a dedicated fanbase to all of the games they make, not just one specific franchise. Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 have their flaws, but I had a ton of fun playing them. I love everything that has been released for Mass Effect up to Deception. My own cousin can't stop raveing about Jade Empire. KOTOR practicly saved the Star Wars franchise for the hardcore fans when the prequal films hit. Bioware is a developer that has always prided itself on releasing quality games and  tie-in material. The Mass Effect action figure line was canceled specifically because the quality of the product didn't meet Bioware's standards. As loyal customers and fans of Mass Effect and other Bioware products, we must demand a statement from Bioware. If we don't, it sends the message to Bioware and other developers that subpar tie-in material is acceptable, that the cannon of a 5 year old franchised can be changed on a whim from outside individuals. Bioware has worked hard to build its games and fanbase, and everyone who has posted on this forum has done so out of dedication to this franchise. On March 6th, Mass Effect 3 comes out, a game that everyone of us on this forum is eagerly waiting for. As we prepare to for the final fight against the Reapers, can we have everything we have worked so hard for be altered and tarnished by a contracted author who has clearly shown he doesn't care about this franchise at all? This is why Bioware must make a statement, because it's the right thing to do.

Spot on, great post.

Aw shucks. *waves* Doin' what I can. Thanks for linking! The more people who know about this, the better off the franchise will be in the future.

Gotta keep fighting the good fight, right? We might have slowed down a bit, but I think it's important to keep the pressure on until we get some answers.

I think I'll go link this thread on my facebook again for good measure. Lol. ^_^

Fighting the good fight right? Not exactly how i expected to spend my twilight years, but its something i feel i have to do.

Deception is seriously watering down my Mass Effect experience... We must get this removed from lore.

I don't know if this will help, but I managed to tweet Casey Hudson about it. He updated his twitter today about the demo so maybe we'll get lucky.

I thought that was the date for early access to the multiplayer beta from BF3:?

This is a very delicate game of PR chess for him, I'm sure. If we hear something from them at all, I'm expecting it next week at the very earliest.

I hope I didn't come off as some rabid fanboy, but twitter's character limits make asking anything a real pain. I wanted to say alot of things, but I had to cut it down to basicly saying:

"I am a fan of ME and can't wait for ME3. Deception came out and is full of cannon errors. Is Deception cannon, yes or no?"

God I hope he doesn't take that the wrong way :crying:

No, the BF3 people get the multiplayer beta on the 14th, everyone else has to wait until the 17th. The singleplayer segment will unlock for everyone on the 14th.

There are other ways to access the beta (a mobile game and a Facebook game, if I'm hearing correctly) - they'll be announced in a few days.

I don't think Bioware has ANY clue of what they let happen.

If you're reading this Bioware, then let me make this clear to you: by releasing Deception, YOU'VE INSULTED DREW KARPYSHYN, ONE OF YOUR VALUED WRITERS. PERIOD.

Why? Because now you've made it completely pointless to read his books since the story isn't going to be finished anyways!

Jesus, I remember reading IGN articles praising the previous novels. And now they let that go all to waste.

pg. 126 (as somone pointed out earlier)

"But because Anderson was busy making love to Kahlee he missed the transition from one state to another."

....REALLY??

Can't do the mobile game, but I'll be hitting up Facebook like crazy for their game.

They was Bioware has been handling some things lately is just leaving me feeling very underwhelmed and disappointed. Including this no equivalent pre-order bonus for the Art Book at Amazon, another demo debacle and most of all this book Now I'm not about to go off saying stuff like Bioware is evil and I will never buy stuff from them again. Because well that would be lying and an over reaction. But I did just cancel my pre-order for the Art of Mass Effect book. I don't really have the money to spend but I was going to do it anyways because it looked neat. Now I'll wait for it to come down in price or get it second hand. Unless of course I win the lotto!

Thirding this.  That's about as tame a criticism as there can possibly be about this book lol

I usually dont post on here mostly to avoid spoilers and because threads tend to run 400 pages long. But Deception was SO bad I had to make an exception especially since it ruined my favorite character THE ILLUSIVE MAN!

Lemme just say that Retribution is my fav ME novel mainly because Drew did an EXCELLENT job characterizing TIM and showing how he thinks and operates. Dietz just ****s over all of that and he essentially becomes a "bad guy", and a dumb one at that in Deception.

One of main the driving points of the plot is that TIM wants to recover Paul Graysons body from the Council, because it's being "used as evidence against Cerberus". This is so stupid and wrong on so many levels, but lemme explain a couple. First the body is not being used as evidence against Cerberus but TO SHOW THE REAPERS EXIST, something TIM would be totally in favor of. Second, how does removing the body absolve Cerberus of any guilt? They stated in the book they have pictures of the body, video footage, and DETAILED examinations and autopsy reports. So what does removing the body do than further prove Cerberus was behind everything and put more guilt on them? Which is exactly what happens in the book.

Also for no reason in true "evil bad guy" logic TIM orders that Gillian Grayson be killed along with Admiral Anderson and Kahlee Sanders. *sigh* Lets think about this here, Gillian poses no threat to him, yes she says she wants to kill him but even he knows that such a thing would never happen, and lots of people want to kill him. What purpose does her death serve other than to place more heat and unnecessary risk on Cerberus? Also why does Anderson and Kahlee need to be killed, now I could perhaps understand wanting them killed in the last novel when they were attempting to take down Cerberus, but they werent even concerned with Cerberus in Deception. The only thing they cared about was proving the Reapers existed, something TIM would want shown so there would be a better defense against them. Also killing Anderson makes no sense on two level, one he is a high-ranking Council/Alliance member thus drawing CONSIDERABLE heat if he here suddenly slain. Second he is also at this point supposed to be an ADMIRAL in the Alliance trying to prepare against the Reaper invasion of the galaxy, mainly Earth, where Humans live. So why would an organization bent on the protection of Humanity kill one of its most important defenders, one of the few defenders whom believe the Reapers exist.

Gah, this novel is so frustrating nearly every character is ruined and also killed off. This should not be considered canon in any form. Also the only tie-in to ME3 comes at the very end when they explain TIM wants to build an "army of Graysons", which explain the Adjutants in Invasion.

YES. So much this.

The characterization of TIM is awful. He doesn't give a rat's behind about what anyone thinks of Cerberus. He wants the dominance of humanity at all costs. An "at all costs" kind of a guy doesn't care about things like public opinion.

Gillian is another thing...it's like he fears her. He doesn't fear Shepard, he should not fear Gillian, no matter how powerful of a biotic she is. Depending on the Shepard you play, Shepard can be an even more powerful biotic, and Kaidan Alenko even powerful still.

It's all atrocious.

I completely agree with you. I know I haven't been playing Mass Effect since 2007, and I just started playing the series in May, but I am a die hard fan. I've purchased all the ME books (besides Deception, of course), I have Joker's hat, a home made N7 jacket, I even bought the games after I had rented them and beaten them...and I have the Collector's Edition paid off and the Art of the Mass Effect Universe pre-ordered. I'm getting frustrated that some of these DLCs and Pre-Order incentives (which isn't that big of a deal), and "buy this to get in the demo early!" and "work here to get in the demo EVEN MORE early!".

Anyways, Deception. Bad. My first attempt at reading it put me to sleep, haha. I'm not even past the auction. Granted, I was laying down and was already pretty tired, but still, I was looking forward to reading the silly errors. XD

You could watch nothing but the 30-second interview with Martin Sheen from the ME2 cast video and know that he would never EVER say "our credibility is at stake". It's so totally out of character.

And if TiM is going to fear Gillian, then her Biotics need to be beyond anything we've seen. Their were glimpses of that in Ascension, but here she just runs around acting like every other Biotic.

One minor point, Kaidan Alenko is not a more powerful Biotic then Shep. He admits as much in ME1, and in ME2 he ends up with L5 implants. Shep is most powerful Biotics around. If he is one in your game. As another example though, how about Jack? He doesn't seem afraid of her at all, and she was abused far worse then Gillian.

Shep gets L5s in ME2? Shizzy. I know that Kaidan was capable of being more powerful in ME1, but I didn't realize Cerberus gave Shep L5s.

Well I'm glad you made an exception. Very well put, the characters in this book are absolutely butchered.
