Yeah, they are also releasing the demo to anyone that bought the book.

That... wouldn't even lessen my rage over spending money on Deception.

It's that bad.

because the reception towards "deception" has got my attention.

Yeah, they are also releasing the demo to anyone that bought the book.
ha.

I'd laugh if that was legit.

For the first time I would regret getting my cancellation in on time1

Nick kills Hendel, Nick dies, Guillian takes a toothbrush to the neck and dies.... redacted without any sort of emotion as if EDI were the narrator.

is baaaaaad.

Nooooooo!!! See, that's how they'd WANT you to feel! No! Must stand ground! Must...not...

Damn, we'd deserve that demo if we put good $$$ down on this crap. But it would still be a BAD way to get people to buy copies....

Its too late. Bioware/EA are businesses, and the money is already invested in the book, the copies are already printed. They'll never issue a statement disavowing it as non cannon, or apologize for it. They wont tank sales of the books that have been printed just because of BSN frothing at the mouth. As mad as people are, lets face it: We're still going to buy ME3. Nobody invested enough in ME to care actually care about this book will not play it. What they will do, im sure, is limit or cancel further printings, and quietly ignore it. Basically treat it like an aborted child, never mentioned again. Then down the line retcon it out of existence without fanfare in future books.

Penny Arcade just put up a comic that talks about the book. Thought you guys might want to know.

The demo would have washed away the bad taste of "Deception", were I not in the process of doing another ME1-and-2 run in preparation for March. I've been feeding my free time a steady diet of reminding myself why I love the franchise.

It's tasty.

Does gillian really die??  Haven't found any mention of that in plot summaries or the wiki's yet.

For me, it wouldn't justify the amount of emotional pain I was in when I was reading this. I can deal with wating for the demo a couple extra days, but this book...

Nothing will make it better.

Edit I know how to spell, I swear...

Yes.

So, if you're like me, who was looking forward to possibly meeting any of these characters (Hendel, Nick, Gillian) in ME3, you're **** out of luck!

You and me both.

@ Butcher - The Wiki guys are still trying to figure out how to reconcile the events of the book with the rest of the canon, hence why there isn't an article yet. It's that bad.

I feel kind of bad for the author after looking at the 1 star reviews on Amazon.

I think it is. Tycho seems to be saying the problem is real. I'll be curious to see his blog post when it goes up. Pretty great they are addressing it at all.

newcasts remembering the tragic slave raid of Pavalen by batarians.

To be honest I think Palaven will have more to worry about.

Unlike ME2, where they could mention the Migrant Fleet and Cerberus in Tali's dialogue (and was it also mentioned in her loyalty mission?), there isn't really an opportunity to tie in Deception at all.

I mean, a character might (does) make a cameo appearance, but even then they have more important things to do.

If you mean the Penny Arcade comic, the comic is usually just about the joke without going too deep into the substance. We won't know how they actually feel about Deception and its response until their blog post on the comic is put up later today.

Congrats, you're above the average Mass Effect fan and BioWare will gift you nothing for that.

BioWare should have done it, it would make Deception a BESTSELLER.

I think I'm more responsible for that then any other single person, and I don't feel bad for him at all. He wrote a book. It's of very poor quality. It has received reviews that reflect that. He deserves nothing more. Why is there a reason to feel bad?

Frankly, if BioWare makes sure not to make a mistake of this magnitude in its hiring and editing processes again then I call our criticisms, our letters, our garnering of media coverage and so forth a resounding success. If they come out and call "Deception" non-canon all the better, but we as fans can recognize it isn't canonical no matter what the official label is because it contradicts so many things so vehemently.

Could I just pay 10 bucks and get the demo now? I don't really need the book, but I'd pay the money if the option was there.

Yeah, if they don't screw up this royally again, I'd say we were victorious.

I think their silence speaks volumes, personally. Whether or not they actually come out and say, "We screwed up," the resounding silence already says that, in my opinion.

If it were a success, they wouldn't be able to stop talking about it.
