Mass Effect: Deception re-write progress update!
Finished through chapter one. It takes a lot more effor than I thought it would. But I have fixed a great many of inconsitencies and lore/canon errors  already. Please PM suggestions and the like to me, or check my blog, on
the wiki.

Also PM grammar and other mistakes. Keep in mind they won't be fixed right away. First the re-write then the edit of the re-write.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/alien.png[/smilie]

I wouldn't mind a rewrite of Deception. Who knows, it might actually be worth the seven bucks I paid for it.

Gotta love how there still isn't an "Mass Effect: Deception Out Now!" announcement.

That's the most telling sign. If Bioware were pleased with Deception, they'd all be shouting it from the rooftops.

Imagine if they'd launched a creative writing contest like after Asunder! You'd just get rewrites.

Hmm, maybe one of us should actually attempt a fan rewrite of Deception.

We could all pitch in and do a collective re-write.

Someone with writing skills should skim through it and make the reading enjoyable.

Many weeks of effort had been required to track the object from the point where it had been stolen to the batarian homeworld and the ancient city of Thondu.

It still has problems with the redundancy and sentence structure.
Though I'm guessing, that's part of the plan. :D

Quoted for the truth.

It's not even funny how little was accomplished in Deception. If it was meant to lead to ME3, then how come it has absolutely nothing to do with the games and has no builup? You can just as easy skip the book and have a note in the game that says which major characters were killed and the player wouldn't miss one bit.

well, it has very little lead in to ME3....dietz did focus on kai leng's, or 'leng', leg issue and that TIM's doctors are going to 'fix him up'......the 'army of grayson's' which i assume we may get to see shep fight.....and the little green necklace filled with info from grayson to gillian...that could play some part...with the way the demo played out and what we've seen of the first level with anderson staying on earth, i wouldn't be suprised to see you go on a mission looking for von in ME3...

This is from the Open Letter Regarding Mass Effect Decpetion linked to in the OP.  This pararagph of the letter in particular spoke to me.

"Mass Effect: Deception seems to be a lazy attempt to cash in on the good
will of the Mass Effect fan, and these errors appear to be the symptoms
of a growing ambivalence to the quality of Mass Effect content, and the
feelings of your biggest fans."

Barla Von's (the Asari that Nick was getting all bothered in his sleep about)

You know, it's kinda damning had little editing this book actually had.

Given that the author gets confused between Zon and Von, and mixes the names throughout the last half of the book, occasionally on the same page.

One read-through, surely, would have picked that up.

Dude, did Dietz rip off House of the Dead: Overkill, Barla Von sounds really close to Varla Guns.

I'm still not there yet in my read-through but wasn't Barla Von this guy?

It's real pity that Drew couldn't continue write this series. He actually knows the ME universe and has imagination. Now what we get is some gangster kiosk literature set on Omega.

Drew could give life and expand what we know about ME universe, in Ascension we get to visit Quarian fleet for example. We will never know what he had in mind for next book but even possibility that he might have taken story to Illum or somewhere we haven't yet seen at all, Turian or Salarian world.
IMO, it was kinda pointless to set most of the Deception to happen on Omega. People get to know the settings and characters already from previous books, ME2 and comics.
Then, who knows what was planned. Drew were probably able make even story happening on Omega interesting again.

But no. Somebody thought that let's give this to Dietz, guy has written game-tie in novels earlier and he has been in the US navy or something, kids love that sort of stuff right so what could possibly go wrong.

Then here we are...

****.

You know what I would love to see?

A Turian Rickshaw riding through Omega selling Happy Bowls filled with Red Sand with the sign "Sandman" on his kiosk and passing Kai Leng riding a Gyrocycle carrying a bowl of cereal while brushing his teeth.

Yet when he was first in the cell:

Other than the light, the bucket that had been placed in the cornor, and the narrow bed, there was no furniture in the room.  Nothing that could be transformed into a weapon, used as a pick, or otherwise turned against his captors.
