Mass Effect: Deception re-write progress update!
Finished through chapter one. It takes a lot more effor than I thought it would. But I have fixed a great many of inconsitencies and lore/canon errors already. Please PM suggestions and the like to me, or check my blog, on
the wiki.
Also PM grammar and other mistakes. Keep in mind they won't be fixed right away. First the re-write then the edit of the re-write.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/alien.png[/smilie]
Just read the prologue and, My God, i see some very diligent people have done what they can, but it's just terrible.
I'm gunna come out and admit that i haven't read Deception, or any of the other Mass-Effect books, so i cannot compare it with those, but i do read a ton of books!
And well, straight in first few paragraphs, he's on a planet never before described in a city never before described, is there any description of this place to help our minds eye?
NO!
Apparantly it's an ancient city, soo are towering futuristic megastructures mingling over the ancient pillars? Or is the historic city a protected zone? Is the Batarian respect for the historic place good or bad? He's on a street, a surface street (because that'd be rare on the home planet of a spacefaring species) or a windy mezzanine?
This is just one small example; but if you're not even going to bother describing anything what's the point of calling it science-fiction literiture?
And obviously despite the rewrite there are still many Aliens on Khar'shan which just ruins it straight away. And it seems incredably rare items are being auctioned (Prothean thingy sounds like a plot device in itself and is then ditched) and nothing is made of the rareness, richness or pomp of this auction, there is no description!
As far as i can tell some of the most priceless items in the Galaxy are being fenced in a crumbling backstreet hovel; and that makes no sense. Khar'shan makes no sense with respect to the auction, Illium would be better, or an entirely new location which could have been interesting. Obviously many of the items are illegal, but a high-society presense would be expected, wouldn't it?
Gah, fans of the novel series a empathise with you i really do =/
