If you are referring to toothbrush thing, I tried to make up my mind about it earlier in this thread. Since one cannot fail at failing I assue, the guy just goes deeper and deeper and when you think that he has reached the absolute bottom he goes and cuts the bottom off to show that decline can continue.

I think there might be some sort of deep philosophical message there in this and guy is actually a genius but we just don't get it.

..but I really think he just completely neglected that fact, and figured that's what "all stereotypical guys would do in that situation". Yay for 'character', depth and individuality.

Especially considering he's a top-tier Cerberus agent who's apparently worth 10 million credit ransom, despite that he does a lousy job and fails all the time.

Too much credit. When he says he is proud of this book, I do not believe him. I don't think he cares on way or the other. His cheque is cashed, he will still get a few bucks in royalties, his involvement is over.

Her and Nick both! And the thing is, there's no point to it!  They both act like children anyway! It might be because Dietz wanted Nick to have a romance sub-plot and not seem skeevy... but it does anyway :/

The orderly, by-the-book military man Hendel is reduced to an arrogant hothead who starts drunken fights with batarians, gives people he doesn't know nicknames such as "four-eyes" and "fatso" (yes, these are quotes), pulls his gun on people's faces from slightest provocation... and threatens. Aria. T'Loak. With. His. Biotics.

Well, that's the best thing. No matter how hard he tried to build up Leng and make people hate him, I probably won't be able to maintain straight face when I see him in the game.

Maybe that was what the editors made him strike out, because it was probably on the level of riding each other like the bumpy ride of a freighter ship entering a mass relay; and who would want something in a book that's meant to be taken seriously.

I thought he was the comic relief to prove that all people are human, assassins and biotics alike.
And that all humans have their bad moments, and we should thrive to understand each other.

Maybe I'm trying to read way too much into this.

The timeline alone is so screwed I can't see it being part of canon in any way.

Like, at one point it is mentioned that it's two years since Sovereign attacked the Citadel, but it's supposed to be the year 2186. Also, in Deception, Nick and Gillian are 18. Ascension happends in 2183 and at least Gillian (and if I remember correctly, Nick too) is 12 then.

Yeah, we screamed about the age change for days, without realizing that it was even worse then we thought. This book literally takes place before Retribution somehow. Grayson is on the run for three years before TiM catches him, and he goes on the run a few months after ME1. So we were thinking that Nick and Gillian aged 6 years in 3, but it's actually 6 years in less then 2.
