The only good publicity that can come from this is if we suddenly found Kai Leng on Wheaties boxes.

Best theoretical promotion ever.

And the quote on the box would be, "If you're an adrenaline junkie like me, eat Wheaties!"

I wonder how long it'll take till we get a response, if we ever do.

I half expected a developer to come in here by now and say something like,

"I enjoyed the book. *smiley face here*"

And then we'd all respond with, "How much did you get paid to say that?"

Then I'd come in and say, "Be nice guys, forum positivity, remember?"

And then someone would accuse me of sucking up, and someone defending me would call them a Meanie McMeanie Pants.

And then we'd go back to making cereal jokes. With or without references to toothbrushes.

What if we're already in the midst of this pattern already?

I mean, it would make more than the plot of Deception.

I'm afraid that this time will be any positive reaction very, VERY suspicious. Posted Image

And there would be a maze on the back where you navigated through Anderson's apartment.

And scattered throughout the back of the box would be toothbrushes you'd have to find and count.

Doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if they let it pass under the radar and never speak of it again.

Ignoring the book would be a lame tactic.

EDIT- Even lamer is ignoring the book's critical BOMBING.

And vases - delicious marshmallow toothbrushes and vases.

I agree with Prince, I'm more put off by the fact that Bioware approved it and allowed it to be released in this state than Dietz's spectacular botch job. I mean, this is their world and they have been promoting this book. Don't they respect their own property? My enthusiasm for ME3 isn't in any way damped but I'm just struck with a feeling of foreboding. It's like, if they don't care then why should we?

We DON'T. At least, we don't care to purchase it.

We sure as hell care to shoot it down though.

I feel like if this thread keeps going, its going to have one negative response to the novel for every one inconsistency the novel has.

There aren't enough negative thoughts in the world.

I'm not talking about the book though, I'm talking about the series in general. The Mass Effect world.
Surely allowing this piece of work to even be released is insulting. It degrades the subject matter and it's not as if Deitz's shortcomings as a writer aren't unknown. Perhaps Bioware saw all the negativity as exaggerated and decided to trust in his 'skills' but then did they not read what was being presented to them?

I know I'm probably exaggerating and I realise that this book is a very small thing in the scope of things, it's just confusing that it's allowed to exist.

Agreed. The people who were supposed to overview this are the ones who screwed up here. If you're handing your IP over to a third-party author at least make sure he has sufficent knowledge to produce something worthwhile in stead of a flaming piece of rubbish. I'm used to reading low sci-fi so it's not like I had unreasonable expectations... but come on!

Reading this reminds me of reading a Star Wars (short) novel called "The Glove of Darth Vader" and its following books.

Published inconsistent fan-fiction written for people with about 5 years of English as a school subject left to go.

So, who votes for a retcon of the entire thing?

Yeah - but there are some interesting things in some of the comics - and the anime doll of Liara - and a few other bits and pieces that seem inconsistent with the ME world.

I guess its all about market saturation.

When something is hot, you'll sell themed ash trays to people who don't smoke - even if the ash tray is made of flammable material.

If by 'retcon', you mean 'throw that **** in the bin and forget it ever happened', then yes. That sounds good.

I want to tweet a dev something along the lines of: "So, what about Deception?"
And receive a response of: "What's Deception? Never heard of it."

I think there's a difference though between actual books meant to expand the world of Mass Effect and stuff like the Liara doll and so on. I realise the latter is gonna exist. It makes sense and doesn't really degrade the world. It's all a part of hyping everything up. The former however should not be allowed to be ground into the dirt. Obviously people who care about the series are going to buy and/or read the books and when you already have a precedent of decent stories being told, it's insulting when something of Deception's calibre comes prancing about.

Me. I'd also like an unlimited amount of Brain Bleach, please.
