Challenge accepted, LPPrince. There are my first ten cannon mistakes in Deception. Everyone can continue, just please keep it on purely ME mistakes, things like cornflakes are only Dietz's stupidities, use same numbering and formal language in case, we someday send it to BW as proof of Dietz's incompetence, and donť repeating them. We will see, how incorrect this I'm-proud-on-it book is. Posted Image

Cannon mistakes in ME: Deception

  • Gillian's autism - now she, by her own words, grew up from it, which is impossible
  • Quarian's names - titling kvarian Fothar vas Maynar (and others) like Maynar means, you adressed them by name of their ship, not by their own name.
  • Gas suckers - quarians breathing air, their masks only looks like gas mask, their function is filtration of air
  • Claiming that Hendel never visit Omega before - Hendel was on Omega in Ascension whole three chapters
  • Hendel can't know that Anderson and Kahlee are together and on the Citadel - they got together after Hendel leaving with quarians and Kahlee had no contact with them (dialog between her and Grayson in Retribution and fact, that Gillian don't know about father's death)
  • Friendship of Gillian and Nick - there was only one and last contact between them in Ascension. Nick overthrow her milk and she went mad and nearly kill him
  • Gillian knowing about her adoption - nothing suggest this in Ascension, in fact Grayson had strict order from TIM pretending, he is her real father
  • Gillian claiming that child in Academy tormented her  -  nothing suggesting that, in fact they only ignoring her, incident with Nick was unique
  • Tantalus drive core on batarian ship - Tantalus core was high secret experiental drive core using only on Normandy, batarians can't have it
  • Aria T'Loak's biotic - Aria is very strong biotic, but in Deception she need her bodyguards to put barrier on her

11. The Citadel is described being star shaped - Citadel is actually basically like hollow cylindar.

12. There is Batarian embassy in the Citedel - Batarians closed their embassy in after the Citadel council sided with humans regarding border dispute.

13. Some characters visit Chora's Den - Chora's Den was closed after events of ME1.

14. Kai Leng kills a Krogan with a regular knife - It's impossible to kill a Krogan with a melee any melee weapons short of a molecular blade.

15. Krogan dies when Kai Leng severes stabs knife in his neck and severes spine - Krogan biology doesn't work that way.

16. Biotics are told to have different levels in their Biotic abilities - There is no such thing, there are only different types of implants.

17. Hendel Mitra is described as heterosexual - Hendel is homosexual.

18. Deception claims Asari found The Citadel first and learned to use mass effect technology after that - How did they got in the Citadel at the first without using mass effect?

19. Deception tells that The Citadel is a Reaper trap that Reapers used successufully during the events of ME1 - That never happended due Prothean scientists reprogamming the Keepers and Shepard foiling Sovereigns plan to manuallu override Citadel relay function.

(AAAAARGH!)

20. Asari are told to be asexual - In ME1 Liara describes Asari as mono-gender, all female species.

While I agree with most of it, didn't Retribution mention how Kai Leng got arrested and sentenced to 20 years for killing a Krogan with a knife? It didn't really go into detail so we can only venture a guess how he managed something supposedly impossible.

That's not the wrong part. He did kill a krogan with a knife, per Retribution. Drew however left it totally up to the imagination as to how exactly he accomplished that feat. Dietz decided to explain it, and f*cked it up by making it so Kai kills the guy by slicing into his neck and severing the spine.  Several problems with that: they don't really have much of a neck,  it's covered by that giant hump, their skin is too tough for that, and their nervous system isn't like ours at all.

Good job, ZLurps.

Thanks, Didy found most of these I think.

The Citadel Council allows Quarians to establish a consulte in Citadel. Is there any mention of that in ME2?

If Quarian consulate isn't mentioned in ME2 that may not be inconsistency with existing ME lore but just something Shepard doesn't know and Quarians don't feel like mentioning in middle of other things going on. However it should be checked if there is Quarian consulate in Citadel in ME3.

Man, these Kai Leng mishaps in "Deception" make the Saren of "Evolution" appear positively appropriate by comparison.

Also, Dietz should have known that made no sense, because he describes a krogan in the preview thusly:

Like all of his kind the doorkeeper had a slightly hunchbacked appearance as a result of the shell-like layers of flesh and bone that rode his powerful shoulders.

I can only assume he wrote that part later and had forgotten about the scene with Kai killing one.

yeah considering all the number of those mistakes, I think im going to treat this book as non canon... Next time do your homework, Mr. Dietz! And Bioware, you might wanna screen out a little better who you get to write your books from now on, If you have any caring for this franchise.

Don't remind me of the comics. Female turians looked laaame. They should have longer head fringes.

ANYWAY,

Saren>Kai Leng. Saren doesn't use sharpened toothbrushes to eat someone else's cereal. Especially Anderson's cereal, who at one point was his rival.

The quarian thing with the Council was so dumb. Not in and of itself, but just... That's a huge deal. And it just happens to be going on when Anderson and Kahlee are there, and it's presented so offhandedly.

It'd be like if Shepard stepped foot onto Omega right as a previous ruler was being executed and Aria took the reins from them, but there are no dialogue options or anything - Shepard just keeps on walking, and asks Aria about Archangel and Solus. I mean, the hell are the odds?

It's just utterly juvenile.

I'm still a little stumped about why Drew wasn't hired to write Deception. Sorry, was he just too awesome?

Saren popping eyes with his claws is nothing compared to the audacity of cereal theft.

I'm going to start duct taping my boxes closed and hiding them under the fridge. It's the only way I know they'll be safe.

I'd be happy as hell if the quarians got any sort of improvement on the Citadel.

But of course, as I said earlier, Dietz had no emotional investment in the characters or setting, so it feels half-assed.

Karpyshyn cared. That's why the events of the three previous books were so powerful.

He was transferred off the ME project to work on SWTOR.

We all saw how that went.

I get the impression from the tiny morsels of ME3 spoilers I've been exposed to re: Kai Leng that once he's uh, er, redeemed by being written by the ME authors again, he will be giving Saren a run for his money on the villain front.

Which is nifty, because I thought Saren was pretty excellent.

Hell yeah Saren was excellent. Hell, Karpyshyn Leng was excellent. Not AS excellent, but still excellent.

Dietz Leng is the problem.

I just hope he gets one of those swords we are seeing some of the Cerberus forces using in the multiplayer game. Omniblade versus actual blade :wizard:

Here is alternative n.14

14. Citadel surrounded by stars - Citadel is in the middle of nebula with only one star, Widow, visible.

Even the thing itself doesn't make sense. How can you have a consulate without having an embassy? And what's so maddening is this part:

I oppose the concept of reopening a quarian embassy, because it implies the existence of a cohesive government.

They've had the same cohesive government for hundreds of years. They are a freaking democracy. How does this make any sense? Are we to believe that the council knows nothing about how anything works?
