The cereal thing I think is no biggy IMO. Every serious story needs a small amount of humor now and then. We obviously experienced it in ME2 and with Joker.

We're not exactly talking "Joker" here. Kai Leng isn't, and never should be a comic relief like Joker obviously is. Kai Leng is a cold remorseless killer that *Spoiler Alert* kill's Aria's own daughter and leaves her naked and blodied body in the very room for her own mother to find. You don't have that character be the comic relief. Like, ever.

But the cereal scene is the 1%, the other 99% are (I'm guessing) spread all over the book. You can see some of them in the preview.

You can see it pretty much everywhere. No one who read the previous books and actually liked them and the characters within them (like I did) can say with a straight face that this book is good. The character's are unrecognisable: they're clear ploys and clichés. In some cases (namely Gillian) they have certain apects taken away (her autism) just to be more "badass" or something else just as silly. The characters were already interesting, he didn't need to toy with their personalities much more. Just up the circumstances and the rest should take care of itself.

I would like to take this light-heartedly, or even find it funny, but this guy was paid and will be paid in royalties by completely negating the reference material and presenting it in a way that's basically indigestible to newcomers and rage-inducing to the fans.

But the reactions are actually hilarious themselves, so I guess there's that. :D

Did you even read my previous post. ( I can understand with such a long post.;))I wasn't comparing the two.

*incredibly obvious stage whisper* It's just an act. But don't tell anyone.

I'm worried this book is gonna be too different from Drew Karpyshyn's style which I really like, thus, making the book unenjoyable for me. I'm not big on books so I don't know if this new author can do it justice (I know he did good books before)

It's straight-up legit, yo. That's how they do on Omega, homegirl.

Just read the preview.

Hell, just read the prologue.

If your talking to me I have.Even if I did read it again, we probably wouldn't be thinking at the same level, so that's why I ask.

-Gillian being 18 when four years earlier she was 12
-Biotics levels of power when there were levels of implants L2, L3,L5....
-The council having their meetings in front of public as if it was a spectacle when in Mass Effect a VI tells you the council meetings are private, and frankly, would you have meetings with interestellar repercussions in front of a bunch of civilians. Really?
-The batarians have an embassy since when? they left the citadel and one of their dimplomats tried to assassinate the council three years earlier.
-The quarians letting Gillian take a ship. Ships is the thing quarians value most and they are not gonna let three humans take it.
-Kai Leng, a human, in the homeworld of the batarians... right...
-An asari saying "oh my god" instead of "by the goddess"
-Kai Leng eating Anderson's cereals on his apartment wtf?
-Gillian is an adult in the quarian ship because she is 18 (she got 6 years older in 4 years right...) when quarians reach that rank when they come back from their pilgrimage.

And those are only fifty pages and I'm sure I'm leaving some.

I think your taking this into too much detail.

The level thing really doesn't bother me. Besides you don't have to treat it as canon

I don't know what game the VI I said that but it could have changed. It it can't be considerod truely public their more than likely lowly guest or workers.

Kai Leng and cereal. I do the samething if I was hungry.

Don't really want to continue but once again I think your taking this too much in to detail and too personally.

FYI I'm not trying to start something. :)

Sad thing is most of those fails could've been avoided by using the ME wiki.

Most is studied and disputed before they put it up there. But a lot of it too is just people connecting the dots. I would take everything by a grain of salt.

Would've been better than whatever source he used for his fail information.

...The cereal thing will help with Kai Leng's inevitable DILP syndrome though.

I don't know anymore. This book was supposed to be awesome. I was supposed to like it, read every page of it and praise it to the skies for its awesomeness! Why, why can't I do that?! :crying:

</drama>

I'm getting what you're saying, don't get me wrong, but it's just so... inappropriate. Not to say completely silly. I mean, no one in their right mind will actually take Kai Leng seriously when they play Mass Effect 3 after they read that part. :P

I'd expect comic relief from Nick, as he was the trouble maker, but not Kai Leng! And even that's giving him too much credit. I'm guessing he seriously thought that was badass enough to have him do: Seeing an assassin "on the edge", with hellbent will to eat his prey's cereal!

Maybe this is why Mac uses Wiki more then their own ME bible.

Dude.... are you even reading these other posters' comments?

We're not talking about a few major or minor screwups here and there.... we are talking about dozens upon dozens upon dozens of colossual utter f***-ups to the lore, canon, and characterizations that have been established in all of the previous Mass Effect media: the video games, the comics, the previous novels, etc etc. Deitz manages to f*** up even the most basics of damn ME lore as if his entire knowlege of the ME universe was from hearing someone describe the game's plot from someone else who previously watched his friend play a few missions of Mass Effect 1. <_<

Well, I dislike being the harbinger of bad press but here's a bit of excrept which made me see the problems:

So T’Loak read, and read, until she was couldn’t
read anymore. Then she took a nap on the couch that
took up most of one wall
. Two hours later she got up
and read again
. Meals came and were removed. Messages
went unanswered. All so T’Loak could accomplish
one thing— and that was to identify Liselle’s killer.
Finally, after more than twenty hours of unrelenting
work T’Loak found what she’d been looking for.

Seriously?

(I figured I'd paste in the one sentence scene between Anderson and Kahlee, but I thought that would probably break a few rules or something.)

Truly, the greatest deception about this book is trying to sell it as something worthwhile, but you can just see how half-assed it is. The moment I saw the word "deencrypt" I knew there was something wrong.

Well I also know the Dietz's novel was approved by two senior Bioware employees explicitly hired to avoid canon mistakes etc. So don't go throwing rocks at his house just yet.

OK, there's a quarian @#$%ing settlement on Omega. And all Gillian has to do is walk up, say she's from the Idenna, and they can instantly verify that...somehow. I guess the census data for ships that are on an extended mission away from the Migrant Fleet are on the extranet or something. And also....this:

"My name is Gillian Nar Idenna [Gillian child of the ship Idenna]."

Yes, it's in square brackets this time. For variety, I suppose.

Now, after seeing that, I'm REALLY hoping that when she finally finds TIM, she says "My name is Gillian Nar Idenna [Gillian child of the ship Idenna]. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

I don't know honestly. But I actually contacted him by e-mail. (I mentioned that in a previous post) I'm not trolling but thats what he told me. After seeing a lot of mistakes a threw a quick email to ask him about it. Anyone can contact him on his website. Like I did.
