I agree, PLC. BioWare did mess up a great deal by greenlighting this novel, but Dietz still needs to be held accountable for not taking advantage of whatever source material he was given (which I imagine had to have been a lot of BioWare cared about the portrayal of their universe). And it's not just the lore inconsistencies that annoy me, it's also the shoddy writing that would make a pre-schooler cry for Shakespeare. This is some terrible writing, one of the worst I've read in quite a while.

Hell, I'm heading my house in an hour just to burn my copy in vengeance. I'm even taking photos. That's how much I hate this novel.

I finally read the preview, and wow... I thought everyone was exaggerating, but it really is that bad. I didn't know that was possible. I'm usually willing to overlook some bad writing for story, but this thing makes Twilight look like a Pulitzer Prize winner.

I'm not defending him, or claiming that the book is a misunderstood masterpiece. I'm just saying that a lot of errors could have been avoided, if Bioware had put a little more effort into proof reading the thing.

Still, kind of shocked that an accomplished writer didn't do his dilagence on his own end.  Reading the codex can be annoying, but if you're writing canon.. kinda necessary.

Cannon mistakes is only one reason, why Dietz is so crucifying here. He also using awful style (nearly every fifth sentence beginning with And, So, Because or But), created very weak storylines and unbelievably defiled character from previous books. True, BW should be more careful about this book, but nothing change that it was Dietz who wrote it.

This is what I'm saying. If there were just a couple of small errors, then maybe I'd blame that solely on a sloppy review process. But if that's all there was, we wouldn't care about this to begin with. There is plenty of blame to go around.

Burning the book, because you hate it? Why not just sell it to someone else? Or give it away.

Simple, because anyone I know who'd want to read Mass Effect will know this book sucks, anyone who knows me will know I don't just give away or sell Mass Effect stuff unless it sucks to high hell, I don't want to subject anyone else to this god awful piece and taint their minds into thinking Mass Effect is poorly written entirely, anyone who isn't a Mass Effect fan won't understand what the flaming hell is going on and it's my copy.

I deserve to treat myself to this after what I've gotten myself to. Besides, I didn't pay that great a deal for it.

PLC: I agree. If Dietz didn't receive the necessary information/support or if his minders were lazy, that's on Bioware. The end product is also on Bioware because they and they alone are responsible for the products they endorse and lend their IP to. The grammatical mistakes and the like on the other hand are on the editor. Seriously, a professional should catch those.

However, the horrible writing and nonsensical plot at least is on Dietz. Also, if he was given the resources and chose instead to bull**** it and Bioware was between a rock and a hard place and they had to publish something, that'd be on Dietz as well. I kinda doubt that happened, since that's career suicide for any professional writer, and I don't think anyone would be that stupid.

But the book itself is beyond redemption. We can speculate and point fingers till we all are sick of it, but it won't make the book any better, or any more worth my money. While I was reading this, I was seriously angry I'd spent money on it, and when there's such a big brand behind it, me associating bying their products with negative feelings isn't good business practice.

I find it mildly funny, that Bioware hasn't commented on all this.

It most certainly is. I found that one a few days ago. Nick has a dream about "making love" as well.

Jeez, if you're going to burn a book, at least film it and explain WHY.

Dang.

I'm going off topic, but I find reading your sentences in Zaeed's voice makes them 100% better!

Anyway! I doubt we'll hear from BioWare on this topic anytime soon (meaning, before ME3 launches). They will need to sell this until their hit hits stores. The least we can do is actually inform people so they make an informed decision when buying this. 'Cause, ya know, no lost sale is good enough to get our message across!

Wouldn't that make them look bad?
I mean, that would just prove they did their job horribly in this case.
Despite that we can see that the end result is bad, openly acknowledging it by the creators would just prove it officially and globally. Would they really want that?

Hm, now that you mention it, I do have my camera lying around here somewhere. Guess I'll put it on YouTube or something.

Too early on this. They must sell maximum of it and hope that people buy it with ME3. Probably only reason, why they published it in this shape, is incoming ME3, because it's too late on starting new book and series should come too cold, if they stopped Deception before publishing and hire some better writter. It was hell of choice and no good way out of it. Posted Image

Hell, I still think even if the plot sucked and there were inconsistencies that were sort of hard-wired, they could have at least bothered to read through it and fix some errors and try to make it pretty. I mean, with the grammatical error "she was couldn't read anymore", I just can't believe none of the editors noticed that. It was the first thing I noticed.

They could have fixed it up to be less obviously crap in about 3 days of editorial work.
Replace some phrases, add some content, add the goddamn missing commas... you know.
