I just finished it a few hours ago and I have to say it was one of the worst tie-in novels I've ever read. I haven't read that many, mind you. Just the DA, ME and several Star Wars ones. That said, it's definitely as bad as the lousy Star Wars tie-ins(there are a few decent ones, but most are god-awful). The writing style itself is poor, coming across like fan-fiction. The adherence to established canon and lore is... non-existent. The dialogue is notably lousy. The action is kind of hard to follow at times. Characters are very much out of character. What the hell happened here? Why did Bioware let this writer get his hands on their baby? And who at Bioware read this and found it to be of sufficient quality to print?

There is not much they can effectively refer to in ME3. No one who has not read the books would have any idea who the characters are. I say they won't mention it at all.

Jillian was mentioned but, not by name in ME2. Do you remember also buying Revelation and Ascension at the Citadel gift shop? That's also what I'm referring to.

Well, I have to admit Casey is right: it is fun...in it's own special way. Maybe that tweet is one of those Obi-Wan "certain point of view" things.

They tell me I look like Mark Hamill. I'll see about dressing up as ROTJ Luke, marching up to Edmonton and canting my head in frustration.

"A certain point of view?"

Yeah, thank the gods for that.

Sorry, but Gillian and Hendel are still in uncharted territory in my brain. Canon schmanon, and it takes a real zero to get me saying that. I very rarely say anything of the sort.

On this we are 100% agreed. They aren't due to return until after I defeat the Reapers. So it works find for me. And I will just assume Nick went back to school. Done and done.

I'm down with Mac, I really am. Especially some of his more recent works. But damn if Drew should never have had to stop writing the books.

Daaaaaaaaamn.

Same here. I'd rather their stories remain unresolved/unfinished than end like THAT.

I'm down with Mac too, but Drew man. DREW. I miss Drew.

I always did, but this novel REALLY nails it.

Like what? They're fine. They are having a great time working on their Biotics. Gillian is learning lots about Quarians. It's great. Everything is great.

Show of hands if this unanimously is considered a disgrace do you think we will get a official response? Or a better book?

This is the last book of this series, so there is really not much they can do.

Seriously. I am totally head-canoning this dirt (and any line directly referencing it in ME3) from existence.

I don't see how they could possibly accommodate it. I mean, I'm not super-fond of Evolution, but that's actually able to be rationalized, if they felt like it. It'd be awkward, but achievable.  But Deception? It just can't be done.

Oh, BTW, it was mentioned he put a sequel hook in involving one of his new characters.  Which one was it?

Mythra Zon. She was mentioned in last dilaog too and last sentences is:

Kahlee nodded.  "Maybe we can find her."
"But not tonight."
"No," Kahlee said, as the sun disappeared.  "Not tonight."

Okay guys, it's midnight my time and I'm heading out to commence the burning. I'll be doing a recording with special mention to certain members here and putting the video up on my YouTube account some time later. Granted I won't mention everything that has been said before, but I've taken note on the more painfully inaccurate points along with some details as to the story-telling of the book.

I'll be posting a link later after it's done.

We sure as heck won't get a response until a couple of weeks after the street date at the very least. I think what we might see is Casey Hudson and a handful of other BioWare devs acknowledging that the book "wasn't entirely up to the standard that BioWare holds itself to" and "promising to devote more time to working together with its award-winning authors to deliver the most satisfying and engrossing supplemental materials for the critically-acclaimed MASS EFFECT franchise possible".

I'm thinking no and no.

If ME3 is a great success (which I'm positive it will be........oh god I hope so), they'll just ignore it and by then we'll all be "Deitz who?" anyway.

Well then I hope a couple years from now. Drew decides to rewrite it. But that's mostly likely to much to ask.

Yeah, maybe Mythra Zon will show up as a stupid side villain.

For instance, that they have clan names.

On a more serious note, I'd like to think that maybe one day she and Veetor can cross paths and strike up a friendship.

That would be the lamest way of going about it, but that's the most likely outcome.

I'd much rather have, "Mass Effect:Deception wasn't entirely up to the standard that Bioware holds itself to, and due to the reaction received from the fans, we have decided to officially disavow the novel from the lore of the Mass Effect Franchise. Whatever you read didn't happen, and we'll be sure to have a newer and better novel written to cover the end of that story."

But noooo....

Oh, that's great. Yeah. They can help each other. Wonderful. When their ship returns. Maybe Gillian can live with the Quarians. They'll be her new family, and she can teach them about Biotics and such. On Rannoch. After I help them make peace with the Geth. What a nice surprise for the crew of that ship. Hooray for the ablility to create my own narrarative.

I reject your Dietzian universe and substitute my own.
