Just out of curiosity, do Gillian or Nick ever show up in ME3, or is it referenced? Will it be easy to completely disregard this story as a whole?

I haven't read any of the leak, but I assume at some point in ME3 Shep goes back to the quarian fleet. It's gonna be weird if they aren't there. Granted Shep may very well not go to the Idenna... but it will be weird if none of the Quarians mention 2 humans wandering around on their ships.

DO NOT CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. DON'T YOU DARE. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR DIRTY LEAKED INFO. SPECULATION ONLY!

You just assume they never came back. No spoilers. Anderson is the only one who we know is confirmed for ME3.

Idenna went off on a five year journey to explore uncharted space. They'll only be getting back by 2188 at the earliest; after the Reaper War is over.

Bioware is going to find any excuse to silence this thread. I'm pretty sure I know which one they'll use:

Mass Effect: Deception is now available....please use the official thread to discuss....LOCKDOWN!!!

Yes, that's what we should all think.
At least that makes sense.

..and anyone who links to this thread is banned? In fact, they could just delete it, but that would just be wrong.

The damage is done, though, they aren't going to stop all of the ill will just by closing the thread.

I don't think it matters. With this and the other thread, we have over 130 pages of discussion, so if that happens, we'll just start up again. And it will only be worse when the book comes out, as then EVERYONE will be reading this book, not just those of us who like to quote humorous excerpts.

I think I'm better off without reading Deception.

This thread has already produced a ton of cancelled preorders.

The amusing thing is that, at the start, the guy was just trolling. He wrote in "44. Too many hamburgers."

Little did he know that that was actually a valid criticism of the book, as Kai Leng goes to a Beggar King for a quick bite before he gets captured. I pointed that out, and he went into full on rage mode, deleting/screwing with previous entries, amending "Ugho serves as Caption..." to "Ugho is a f*g" along with other things.

So yeah, you literally cannot troll this novel. If you think of something clever, chances are Dietz is already one step ahead of you.

Wait that Beggar King thing was real? I thought that was sheer nonsnese and I started writing, "what the hell are you talking about?" There was also some other nonsense about salarian stri-fry. Later there was a pretty good one saying "Shepherd is referenced as a black female though he is a white male in the canon." The troll made it look like all the regular posts so it stuck around for awhile while people were fixing the other stuff that was clearly garbage.

***MAJOR SPOILERS***highlight to read***
From all that I've read in the leaks, neither Gillian, Hendel, or Nick are ever referenced by other characters in ME3, and since those three characters are killed at the end of Deception, they obviously do not show up in the game either.

Hence the reason why the one word I used to sum up Deception was "meaningless". <_<

To be fair, Deception is definitely worth a read; just not a sale. I encourage anyone to go to the bookstore and skim through it for giggles, or to borrow a friend's copy/get it from a library. This book is the pinnacle of "so bad it's good" literature.

If it comes to that, there's no need of a great discussion like we've been having. We can just drop this doc there and bam! Problem solved. ^_^

And to those asking, yes, Deception never happened. No, there are no exceptions, it never happened. End of story.

Can't argue with that. Well... maybe I can. If you don't read the ending it's actually a funny read. Well, until you realise this guy is getting paid for this. *sigh*

I think it'd be interesting if the excerpt turned out to be a giant trolling effort, in response to lagging book production, to reduce the number of preorders in order to meet original demand.

Oh yes, that is very real.  Technically it was Asari stir-fry, though-and Salarian curry.  And yes, I thought the black female Shepard bit was pretty good.

From book. Is real. Not joke.

Leng, who had made use of the Beggar King’s services before, entered the steamy embrace of the restaurant and followed a long warming table loaded with bins of food

Kai Leng was sitting at the kitchen table eating take- out food when the alarm began to buzz

So as Leng stood there, spooning salarian curry into his mouth,

Leng was partial to Mexican food so he ordered an enchilada, some tacos, and a shot of Honzo.

There is a lot of fun stuff about food. The fact that Leng enjoys Mexican food is mentioned three seperate times.
