What happened next came as a complete surprise to the krogan as Gillian triggered the biotic power called “charge.”

Dietz literally has the characters playing the game in the book.

No. That can't be a ****ing line. No. No no no.

That is the worst.

I remember reading reviews for another Dietz book. People complained that the book read like it was a video game, gameplay mechanics and all.

Something i noticed that i haven't seen discussed yet:

When Kahlee and Anderson are going to see the council the security they go through (retina scan) is absolutely primitive compared to the security Shepard goes through just to get on the Citadel in ME2, which is a DNA scanner that can verify who he/she is through armour and despite being dead, all in a few seconds.

Apparently, security has recieved a serious downgrade since ME2.

Mistake Number 48?

After the metal detector on the Batarian world, I sort of accepted that one. /nod

Best part? She shouldn't be able to execute a biotic charge (which is essentially turning oneself into a mini-mass relay) unless she is an asari or has Level Five En implants. She's not an an asari, for all her air-kissing techniques.

And there's only one known human with Level Five En implants,

Nick wonders at one point if his light armor was a mistake. This because he sees a girl his age wearing medium armor. I'm really close to drowning myself here.

He really should have put more points into his armor skill - but he thought that pistols were so damned useful.

I was thinking of picking the book up. I may stlll do it but for all the wrong reasons now.

I just read the doc of things wrong with this book and my only reaction is "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!". Dietz seems like he didn't read ANY of the previous books, didn't read ANY of the in-game codex, and certainly didn't play ME2.

I have also noticed something. Any time a BioWare employee posts an unsolicited tweet about a product that is unreleased and claims that it is "awesome", it isn't. It sucks, or is at least questionable, and they are trying to cash in on their reputations to try to get as many sales as humanly possible before the actual product is reviewed. I seem to remember Ray Musyka (sp?) tweeting how he played DA2 completely and it was "awesome", a few days before it was released.

He's trying to write the book as if it's a video game, but disregards the games rules while doing so. I wouldn't have so much trouble with the 'charge' thing if he had had her pull it off in like a fit of anger and had it be a one time thing - since it's at least possible for other biotics to do it. Oh, and if he actually DESCRIBED it.

The citadel found out omni-gel had made a come-back as being able to shut down their scanners. Who knew that **** would keep biting their security in the ass.

Well I, and a lot of other people, actually enjoyed DAII, so it's not the best comparison. I don't think we'll be seeing anyone defending Deception, though...

Eh man I like DA2....

It's not even comparable, this book is unforgivable. DA2 is a whole other can of things gone wrong that isn't actually all that bad if the game hadn't been a sequel to DAO..

Anyway..

From what I've seen it involves changing the color of the text - though BSN desparately needs an actual spoiler tag.

has no one seen the cover??? the young women looks LIKE a lawson. a error or plot thicker . If the "covergirl" is ms Grayson, the gillian MAYBE another member of the Lawsons' gals.If so then how TIM(the illusive man) get the Lawson DNA and was(or is) planning to replace lawson with a upgrade.

I also enjoyed DA2. Not a great game, but a good game featuring some of the worst design/ writing decisions ever made (IMO). BioWare knew that it was going to be... a disappointment. Hence the tweet. I say that because I can't for the life of me see how Casey Hudson thought that this was going to be a good book. He tweeted for the reasons I posted previously- to make as much money of this turd as possible.

Cover art tends to be just that....cover art. Reading a bit too much into it, I think.

No, the cover art is spot on as, as far as this book is concerned, Gillian is now an 18 year old perfectly stable superbiotic.

That's the thing, she shouldn't be able to execute a biotic charge no matter how you approach it. No human without an L5n has the ability, something that is mentioned explicitly in ME2. The MP characters can, but this, like a slam-using soldier Shepard, is a gameplay feature. The schematics for the L5 series exist (and humans may have the biotic potential), but no one (not even someone as young as Gillian is supposed to be) should have them unless they've been retrofitted...with which comes a high probability of brain damage and other deleterious side effects.

All of this was ignored, of course.

Okay, got it now. For anyone who wants to know what I hate the most about this book, here it is. Spoilers for anyone who still wants to read it. Highlight to read.

Gillian is a character who I knew up until this point as a troubled twelve year old with a talent for Biotics. In this book, she is literally made to murder dozens of people. This includes the brutal, execution style killing of another human girl. She shoots her in cold blood, in the head. Point blank.

End spoilers. I hate this book.

Lawsons have striking dark blue eyes and perfect symmetry (supposed to). Gillian has dark brown eyes that are wide set. I thought she was just an orphan from an actual couple, not engineered. Don't remember where that's mentioned though if at all.
