I can hate you, I guess, but most of my hate at the moment is reserved for Deception.

My hate is for Deception, my love is for the book burning video.

Which I posted on facebook. It'll get more views that way.

Maybe a link to it in the first post? It'll be linktastic all up in there.

As bad as the book sounds, a lot of the errors on that Google doc are patently false. I was only a little bit down the list before I thought, "This is so unprofessional" and left it at that.

If I actually made the mistake of buying the book(which I didn't), I'd of made my own video of burning it with a message of why it occurred, or find some other way of disposing of it.

Good on us though for being involved in this thread. So far, if counting the first thread I never saw, we'd be nearing 150 pages of pure negative reactions to the novel, and its not even supposed to be out yet.

I imagine following the official release we'll have droves of fans looking for a place to complain with us.

I think they meant that the facts in the book were false - not that we had false examples.

Perhaps.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thread's popularity skyrocketed once the book was legitimately out for everyone to get on its actual release date and people needed a place to vent.

Or future threads in a similar vein, if this one is locked - which it might be.

I can't see why it would. We're all being honest with our opinions.

Yes, but at some point somebody may post a link that could be construed as piracy, which is why the previous thread was locked. Or at least one of the reasons why it was locked.

Then we'll have to avoid that.

No, I meant some of the "errors" presented as erroneous in the Google doc aren't. Or at best, require further description or context for the entry in the doc to make sense.

For example, the Citadel being "star-shaped" is correct depending on the angle from which you view it. From the front, with the arms open, the Citadel is plainly star-shaped, and is likened to a pentagram in the wiki. But never mind the wiki, just look at it for yourself.

Likewise, there appears to be entries in the doc of things presented in the book as facetious, one being that the quarians are referred to as "gas suckers". That is plainly derogatory, and while I haven't read the book I can't see that being said in a factual manner.

Biotics having different levels in their abilities is true. Some are better than others. That's pretty much a fact.

The entry about quarian clothing is also unnecessary. The quarians wear clothes above their suits. It's how they personalize them. And they include the items listed. The "motley" part is especially appropriate, given the quarian lifestyle.

Biotics having different levels is misinterpreted in the novel.

You can't just go from a Level 2 to a Level 3 with hard work and perseverance unless this whole leveling system is first introduced in the novel.

There are L1s, L2s, etc etc and in order to get the higher numbered implants, you need retrofits or need to generally be younger to get the newer ones, like Adept Shepard being a L5x, Vanguard Shepard an L5n, and the Ascension Project's students getting L4's.

Biotics don't have levels - that is inarguable - they have varying biotic potential. They cannot decrease or increase this potential (as Dietz suggests), but learn how to better utilise their abilities. And these "Levels" that Dietz has imagined are in reference to implants (L2, L3, etc.) whose alphanumeric codes are classifications/designations, not indications of proficiency. Nick cannot, as Dietz claims, pop into the Cube as a "Level 2" and come out as a Level 3.

You wouldn't see anyone in the MEverse running around and saying that Jack is a Level 9001 biotic.

What implant does Jack have, anyway? Isn't she an L5?

The biotic "levels" as Dietz uses them are just odd though and just don't mesh with what we've seen.  He uses them as rates of ability.  "Nick is a level 2 biotic with the potential to be a level 3"  The closest thing to this in existing lore is the L2 and L3, which are implants not levels.

Dietz makes no mention of the suits, he makes it sound like the Quarians only wear ramshackle clothing.

See, it's quotes like these where I can't tell if the character is just an idiot and grasping at straws, or if Dietz honestly doesn't realise that biotic abilities aren't psychic powers.

Did the book ever mention exposure to eezo and biotics in the same sentence?

Well, the character was fanatic belonging to something called "The Biotic Underground"

Dunno what her original implants are, they're probably experimental Cerberus somethings-or-other. If you get her upgrade, though, she gets creates an L5x and gets retrofitted.
