Useless sidequests.
Fetch games (Rage being the most recent).
Being unable to save during a battle.
Enemies with "Spider Sense", Battlefield 3 SP had it. In a mission where you are the Russian guy, you go through a sewer pipe to flank the enemy in "stealth style", but it's useless. As soon as you show a single inch of your head in a place they are not looking at, their "spider sense" tells them there is someone in their flanks, and they start shooting you with impressive accuracy, despite the fact that they are under heavy suppressive fire.
Achievements that doesn't grant you anything. Yes, like the ones from Mass Effect and Dragon Age, at least the pc versions.
Hundred hour game to see a 20 seconds (usually lame) cutscene as ending.
Something that doesn't happen anymore, but was really common in older games: limited "continue game" when you die.
Something that happens in RTS games: ridiculously fast enemy AI in harder difficulties. You are still in "stone age" trying to get food and other materials, and they already have nuclear bombs, and sometimes when in combat, while you as a human being can control only a single character or a small unit, the AI has the ability to control every single character all at the same time.
Racing games: when it doesn't matter how good and fast you are, the AI racers will always be right behind you waiting for a single mistake. But, when you are slow, they seem to forget they are racing and just make a joyride to keep you near them -> Mario Kart series.
Games that don't "understand" the difference between a good challenge, that can be beaten by good tactics, and a ridiculously impossible situation that can only be beaten by pure luck or if you happen to find a glitch in enemy AI, usually turning it in just a matter of patience to explore the glitch while the enemy slowly dies. Like killing the YMIR mech that killed Prazza squad, you just have to hide behind an indestructible and big enough crate so the mech cant shoot you over it. Then you just shoot or use some power, and eventually move around the crate if the mech tries to reach you. This battle isn't that hard even if you don't use this "glitch", but is a good example of a hard battle that turns into an extremely easy one once if find a failure in the enemy AI. Don't misunderstand me, I don't want an unbeatable enemy. I just think a hard battle should be won with clever and smart tactical choices, and not just pure luck (the enemy getting stuck behind something) or AI glitch.
And I could go almost forever here....

Auto Save. Why does this feature exist. Either let me control when i save or give me save points so i can save at a point i choose. The game should not dictate from what point i save and start again.
I don't understand this complaint, unless you mean the game has only autosaves? Otherwise, it's just another save you can choose from. I don't mind autosaves at all. I just supplement them with my own as well.
As far as things I hate, I agree with many of the things listed and probably would have to put QTEs near the top of my list as well.
I dont think you understand what i mean. Im talking about games that say "hey when this sign appears it will save, you can't choose to save we will do it for you" so you start at the checkpoints they choose rather than where you want to save your game which means you can't stop at will until you find the next autosave point

Its cynicism.
What I can't like a game without you giving me 50 reasons why I suck for liking it?
I'll gladly take QTEs and escort missions over that any day.

Lol, this is so true. I wandered around for ten minutes once in TW2 cause you actually need to get behind Roche to follow him into town. He runs a bit, then stops. Runs a bit, then stop. Runs a bit...HURRY THE F*CK UP ROCHE!!
As for things I hate
-poorly done UI.
-QTE's, although I have to admit I liked the way they were done in SR3.
-minigames. Most of the time they're a chore.
-timers, or timed missions.
-poorly done save points. GTA4, lookin at you.
-puzzles. Not a fan.

This the only site you ever go to?
Where have you been living under a rock?
Its simple for every 1 person there is whose rational and nice about their opinion there is 20 more people who will spew venom and fanboy rhetoric to ruin the whole conversation.
This place is tame but I used to be part of Myspace forums. Trust me you would understand why calling me "thin skinned" is so laughable to me right now.

- When your about to face a difficult boss and the only available save point is right before a lengthy unskippable cutscene.
- Obviously cheating CPU's.
- Crap AI utterly ruins my immersion.
- All this newfangled DLC nonsense, its all too common for my tastes.
- Not all that common but romance scenes often just make me laugh at their shoehorned awkwardness.

-Progression Bugs(nothing worse than spending time working through an awesome story and/or gameplay only to get stuck becuase of a certain trigger not activating etc. and then you have to wait for a patch)
-Poor Optimization(There's no excuse for a game not being able to run smoothly on a system when said system is way above the recommended requirements. Ideally all devs should try to make their games as optimized as Warcraft 3 which managed to run even on the low end systems)
-Poor localization(This falls into two categories:bad and hilariously bad. Bad is just horrible and usually a poor attempt on the publisher's behalf but hilariously bad can be entertaining even if the plot is serious)
-Cheap enemies/cheap boss encounters(This is a huge problem in fighting games where the boss can take you out in one or two hits of a special attack with little or no time to avoid it)
-DRMs which only allow you to install a game a certain amount of times
-Repetitive quests and/or gameplay(It's like with any other form of entertainment medium, mixing it up can make it more interesting)
-Bad pacing(Pacing can make or break a game. A good example is something like Bullestorm where it's just non-stop action. After a while it starts to lose it's impact but like in a film if the action is broken by moments of drama, suspense or any other type of mood then the next action scene or sequence will be even more exciting)

-escort missions. Worthless, useless people deserve to be canon fodder.
- quick time games. I hate these damn things.
I'll add - puzzles in general. Staring at a patch of ground in a hex pattern, trying to decide which order to put the rocks into. Please, let me just blow something up!!!!!!

No save option in this day and age (especially in open world games, yes, GTA IV, I am looking at you)
And if you think you need checkpoints (which can be fine in shooters actually) than please don't set them before annoying cutscenes/scripts that I have to whatch over and over again (Homefront was particularly bad in that regard).

Limited saves. Dude, we all have hard drives now, what's your excuse?
Clown car firefights. Give me an indication that I need to move on to escape, and design it so I don't have to cross twenty to thirty metres of open ground to do so, or I'm going to keep shooting! Homefront was shocking for this, especially the survivalist compound level.
Short campaigns. The bane of the modern shooter. Call of Battlefield Honour can take the blame here.
Cheating AI. Whether its x ray vision, or precognition, a slush fund or perfect map knowledge, or reading controller inputs, either create a smart system and play by our rules, or GTFO.

I'm looking at you Bathesda.
Walking speed that is either faster or slower then the person your walking with.
Example: You're in dragonsreach walking with the Jarl to the mage and no matter what your faster than him.
Ugh that annoys me.

Yeah, people listing pet peeves in videogames sure implies cynicism. I don't like timed escort missions, tottally cynical.

Pet peeves tend to turn into giant issues that go into what is wrong with everything about games.
CoD is a perfect example.
People hate how online shooters especially games like MW have turned into big insulting each other for nothing and little kiddies going ape**** over dying and so now every shooter sucks because of it
