Excellent post Cheez.
Let the anger flow, let it consume you
But seriously. Talking about voice acting, world building, game programming, combat mechanics, new characters, and the like should be exciting. It should be an opportunity to learn something as well as get hyped for the game.
But Bioware Pulse buries it in all this obnoxious awesome-awesome-awesome-also-buy-this-thing-no-one-cares-about-lulz. The actual information, the cool stuff, about the game, is weighed down by needless transitional crap and assurances that boy oh boy is this game gonna be cool.
Well, don't tell me how cool it is. Show me. Without throwing T-shirts and unrelated promotional crap in my face.
And seriously, since this is the "perfect" place for newcomers to enter the series, shouldn't it also be the perfect time to get them up to speed with all the lore and characters? Why not have a little flash page on James or Liara or Garrus that gives the new player a taste of who they are? You know, something that makes them think, "this guy is awesome; I can't wait to have him on my team," like those little bios they did for Wrex, Ash, and Nihlus for ME1? Like the crazy-sweet CG squadmate trailers for ME2?
Hell, why not do little animated flash shorts on each of the races and their histories or whatever? What about class videos again?
God, I miss those.
Anyway, the whole marketing thing has gone haywire in the last couple of years. 5 bazzilion promo unlocks via blatant advertising campaigns, that basically scream "sell your soul to receive X reward in-game", only it's usually worded differently. People never asked for it, never really liked it and frankly I'm getting the feeling everyone is fed up with it.
Then there are the direct insults to gamers like that "fake" Kinect promo vid, where every non-gamer in the ad is so artificially excited about it, it hurts. It really is the final insult from the gaming industry to anyone with half of working brain cells.
Any sound and creative advertising, like you mentioned, is basically gone nowdays. And this current trend of insulting ad campaigns catering to the lowest possible denominator will not stop, unless there is a huge public uproar about it. So I'm kinda proud of everyone willing to speak up against this BS, so that maybe one day the industry will start treating people with little more respect. Afterall it is us the consumers that are keeping the industry alive, and they damn better remember that.

For I am Cheez and I can do no wrong.
EDIT: Nope nevermind don't have the energy. Suffice to say there'd be more information and less merchandising.

I really expected BioWare's marketing to pick up real fast after they came back from their Christmas break. Guess not. Starting to get a little annoying tbh.

Right?
As much as I like Mass Effect, not sure if I am interested in attaching my name to it on facebook.

Why are you annoyed?
Tell me why it matters to you, a fan, who will inevitably be picking up a game in just six weeks?

Well, I know plenty of people who play CoD, and they don't like to be treated like they're stupid, either.Slidell505 wrote...

Most of them are little different from us, in fact (the good and the bad--hell, plenty of forum regulars really like and enjoy CoD). A little more geared towards competitive gaming, maybe.
Okay, a lot more geared towards it. The hardcore ones, anyway.

That said, I don't mind throwing up a like on facebook, but I can't get to it from work.

"Reality" television featuring a collection of stupid, annoying, promiscuous, spray-on-tanned people from the second worst state in the US.Mesina2 wrote...

It was fairly popular at one point but the producers are currently running out of their list of idiotic gimmicks (the most recent was shipping the entire cast to Italy for a season).

1. I don't have anyone to share with (I actually don't use Facebook, tho I do have an account).
2. All that effort for a trailer? Not useful. I set up the facebook account for DA 2 items. I look into it once every blue moon or so....
