Hello all.  I was just playing around on the internet and found that gog.com is selling Baldur's Gate 2 Compleate for download.  I have never had a chance to play this game and would love to have the chance.  Only problem is I have never heard of gog.com untill today when I found this offer.  So I was wondering if any of ou have used it and are they safe and reliable?

Been a customer for a few years, the games are cheap, often discounted, come with many extras offered free of charge (such as soundtracks, maps, avatars etcetera) and as said above are totally drm free.

It is the genuinely best way to get yourself aquainted with the best games ever made. I'm currently planning to get Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 2, Arcanum, and The Longest Journey. I'd recommend looking for patches and mods to grease the wheels of the game, so to speak.

Like the others said, it's safe and reliable.

GOG is great. It's a million times more reliable than any other service that offers classic games for sale (I'm looking at you Steam).

I've been with GOG ever since the BETA, I buy my games almost exclusively from them. Only had a problem once, when I didn't receive an order confirmation email, but the game got added to my account anyway and my CC was charged the right amount. So yes, they're legit and reliable.

Not only is it safe and reliable but they go out of their way to make sure older games run on modern systems.

I bought Heroes of Might and Magic III complete through them. The game works perfectly fine and you can opt out of them storing your payment info.

It's a good site. Steam is easier, though, for popular titles. I regret getting The Witcher 2 from gog.com because it's more fiddly.

I would not recommend getting TW2 on Steam, people have had numerous issues with that version. And GoG is awesome, but I can't wait till they start carrying newer and indie titles. Then they'll be awesomer.

I use it. In fact I support that site greatly because of great prices, absolutely DRM free, and you get something extra out of the games you purchase (such as the games come with their soundtracks, manuals, artwork, avatars, and wallpaper). On top of that they patch all of those classic games so they would work on Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Completely safe and reliable, it's run by the people of CD Projeckt (those who did The Witcher) much like how Valve runs Steam. Course GOG.com is better than Steam in my opinion, although GOG.com focuses more so on classic/retro PC games. But they're working on expanding their catelogues to include even newer games.

Square Enix just partnered up with them today and to introduce the new developer to the site they added Hitman and Deus Ex: Game of the Year.

Also, you should see their sales. Most of their games are normally priced between 5.99 and 9.99... when the sales come by it's usually 50 or 75% off. Sometimes they have a developer bundle sale or a series sale.

I have 38 games through GOG and have been with them since their beta days as well. I've had zero issues with them. Great, safe, and reliable site to get digital games.

Man, don't go with D2D. They've just joined with Gamefly, and now customer service is a joke. It's like getting the run around.

GoG is great!

I always use my browser for downloads when I buy there...I've heard the GoG Downloader can still be a bit touchy.

GOG is an awesome site. Trustworthy with plenty of services and features. When you download & buy games, it often comes with extras like manuals, art, wallpapers, soundtracks and the like. The games are cheap, plenty of reviews in case you're unsure whether to purchase a particular game. Safe, reliable, zero DRM, no limits on redownloading games you've purchased.

GOG does focus on older games and classics (hence the name Good Old Games), so you won't find any new games (barring Witcher 2 of course), but overall it's an excellent site.

@Deathwurm: I've been using the downloader and it's never given me any problems. It's pretty fast.

GOG is what every digital distribution service should be. It's run by gamers, for gamers. Their games don't carry any DRM; though you may have to sign a EULA on certain games. On all games(except The Witcher 2), they don't rely on flawed and unfair geolocation to determine what country and currency you purchase the game in. You're free to choose the country and currency to pay in. You can download GOG's games through their downloader, but you don't have to install and use it unlike Steam; you can simply download through the browser and install your game.

If the games have any extra content available or added, they are usually included free with the game. Art, books, documentaries, guides, manuals, maps, soundtracks, and patches in the case of new games like The Witcher 2 are generally included. Oh, and you get a few free games on GOG just for registering, although imo the only one worthwhile to play is Ultima 4.

If there is a downside to GOG, it's that most games are included fully patched with no optional patches offered, and at least some games don't allow you to not install add-ons or expansions. This could be a negative, for example, if you don't want to play the original Baldur's Gate with the changes that Tales of the Swordcoast introduced.

Also, I've played with the GOG version of Baldur's Gate 2, and it worked fine for me on Windows 7 64-bit. Some of these games may require some work though, despite CDPR's efforts to make them as compatible with modern PCs as possible.

Good to know...I've never actually tried it myself...just heard a bit of kvetching about it and downloading through my browser is pretty fast also...

OP: you are going to find pretty much Universal Praise for GoG...especially around here...and it's all well deserved...

GoG has mentioned that they are planning some pretty cool things for this year including expanding the Library, making newer games available, making sure everything in the Catalog is optimized to run on Windows 7, and getting into Indie Games...
