I feel like whoever made the anime is exquisitely bad at animating jumping in particular.

Ummm....ok? Isn't the anime already out in Japan now? I wonder why they're having such a big gap in the release from Japan to releasing it in the US?

Cassandra's jump-around-in-combat skills seems to exceed even those of a rogue Hawke :?

By the way, any one knows how the Japanese have taken it? Critically I mean?

I'm wondering why it's taking so long for the spoilers to get out.

Eh, this is usual for anime. It takes a while for things that are released in Japan to make it over here. I've never known why, but I suspect it has to do with finding the appropriate voice actors, translating the dialogue appropriately, and getting everything in order (distribution, put onto disc format, etc).

Video games that are released in Japan first have the same thing, and it's expected because you need to translate the stuff. And sadly, some games lose some parts of footage because of censors. Like in Kingdom Hearts 2 where guns in Port Royal were replaced with crossbows for non-Japanese versions and Axel's death scene was edited to remove the fire surrounding him.

For TV anime, it's commonplace simply because the broadcasted episode shown in Japan is far ahead of the ones shown outside of Japan. A new Japanese episode of Pokemon may show Ash battling Elesa of the Nimbasa City Gym, whereas the episode seen in America has him doing some filler episode that's at least 15 episodes before the Elesa battle.

Good thing most anime have a simulcast somewhere online nowadays.

Goodbye old fansub VHS tapes.=]

It was aired in a selected few theaters. Not to mention the movie is geared towards a very small niche market. You are only going to find a few reviews here and there. The movie section of Yahoo Japan gave it 3.53 stars. Eiga has the movie ranked at number 83 with a review of 2 stars and a how much you want to see it at 4.6 stars. MovieWalker has a rating of 2 stars for it.

This site even gives it 2 stars: http://cinema.pia.co.jp/title/157750/

What kind of critics are you looking for?

I'm not sure how to answer that question to be honest...but they aren't very good reviews :crying:

The movie seems to be divided into two groups, just like the game. There are those that really like it and those who really don't like it. There also seems to be a confusion about where the movie came from. A lot of people seem to think that Hollywood decided to outsource the project. The confusion is understandable, but might be reflecting a little in the reviews.

You have people who don't like the CG, think the animation is un-natural, think the characters are not expressive enough with their face, think the story is shallow, the villain has no appeal, and the acting was bad.

Then there are those who loved the CG, thought the movie was action packed, thought it was a good dark fantasy, thought it had similar feeling to Appleseed, Vexille, and Berserk.

Cassandra seems to be a tsundere though. A tsundere is a woman that is cold or cruel on the outside, but on the inside she has a warm heart. You know, like all the women in movies from the 90s. They are independent women who act cruel/cold towards the male lead until he is able to gain her trust. Then she turns all nice and cuddly for him. A very popular character type in Japan.

There seems to be a certain trend in everything that "more awesome" means more quality. When there's a protagonist that jumps around, is thrown around, kills things ten times bigger without so much as a scratch, where is the tension or sense of danger? Conflict has become routine and cheap.

And when one other anime's do that also it's 'alright.' This is just their style: over exaggerated action; lots of "HIYAAAAAHEEAAOOWGOO's;" plenty of cheesy dialouge and characters doing the impossible.

I'm fine with it aslong as the story is fine, I've grown accustomed to the CG and I think with English voice acting to dub out the voice acting then I'll be fine. Not that the Japanese voice acting is bad, I just can't understand them so it all sounds silly xD

GACKT - Until The Last Day LIVE
[LINK]

:D

EDIT:
Opinion about this production:
Thanks to a very generous friend, I could watch Dawn of the Seeker today. I won't do any spoilers, but here are some things that I thought you might want to know:
Acting: The voice actors kind of stink. Don't expect Anders or Merrill or Oghren or Alistair level. The person playing Cassandra managed to make her sound flat and well... drone-ish. Gackt is Gackt. He might have made Genesis from FFVII:CC rock, but as a character from pseudo-medieval Euroamerican fantasy, he didn't do a great job in my opinion. Grade: C
Story and Character: The characters seemed relatively stock to DA world, but I might be being cruel here. The story seemed almost a replay of DA:O in a sense, with the plot line of "not so important person gets framed and become the society's baddie, and has to go on a quest to redeem the name and become a hero" kind of a storyline. It almost seemed "Here is what happens if Warden was actually a seeker, not a Warden!". Also, Anders DAO:A Version 2 shows up. As a film itself, not part of the franchise, it is almost impossible to have any clue what's going on, just like FFVII: AC. Grade: B-.
Graphics: Some parts look so anime-ish I was almost certain the same artist from Naruto was working on it. Then the action scenes were so game-y I was almost certain a varterral will pop out, DA2 style. It was a bit jarring. The characters also vaguely looked similar to any character made by an Asian in DAO or DA2 (read: huge eyes, small face, small mouth), but that might be inevitable. The gore was there, but it was not distracting. The music definitely sounded more Japanese-y, but as I didn't pay much attention to it, that's all I can say. B+
I'm really glad I got my ticket for free, but I would not dish out any money to buy the DVD; I'd rather save that for another DA game (or the comic or the book or whatever). I doubt I'd watch it again.
Was it cringe and horror-inducing as I'd expected? No. Was it fun to watch? As a DA fan, it was, but then again I take joy in watching the mabari dance to Baha Men, so my taste regarding this matter is dubious. Will I pay a regular DVD price to watch this again? Probably not. If I didn't play DA games, will I like it? Most definitely not.
Gackt's theme song was also... weird, considering the world view. I had a mental image Fenris singing it and giggled hysterically. But hey, he dances when he's bored in the mansion so maybe he will sing too. If somebody made a mod of that, I'd so download it...
