Well, this is really bothering me. How come spells and arrows directed at my characters hit them through walls and even several rooms away...?
Agreed the mage or archer start their attack when in line of sight, but I can run through several rooms before they end and shoot. The interesting thing is their spells (fire balls, staff shooting, arrows!!) always hit me... even if I am behind a closed door or a couple of rooms away... Any idea if this is intended to be so, and/or wether it is going to be fixed?

Strange. I use line of sight all the time to pull mobs. I don't think I've seen many if any problems like this. Are you using a PC?

Fireballs through walls happened to me as well, most noticeably in the "Deserted Building." <_<

I have this happening all the time aswell. If the enemy targets and starts charging whatever attack they're doing before you can get out of sight again, any attack they're doing will go through walls and ground to hit you.
At the same time, any and all attacks you do, ends up blocked.

@Nicodeemus327: Yes using the PC version.
@Trylane: 'Deserted building' is where I started really noticing this.
@Varenus: My point exactly! If it went both ways I wouldn't care so much.

As non projectile attacks, you can use winter's grasp, mana clash and all the AOE attacks through walls. Kinda evens it out.
Still, awkward.

winter's grasp, mana clash and AoE attacks aren't projectile attacks, so no... it doesn't even anything out. Those aren't bugs. Those make sense.
It's a really annoying aspect of the game. You should be able to LoS mages and archers but you can't unless you do it before they start their spell/talent. If they start it when you're in their LoS, you're SoL. I especially love the continual loading screen comments about how mages attacks don't crit but dissipate off walls. Really? Because I've never seen that happen. They go right through the walls, Bioware. But thanks anyway.

This game uses an MMO-style combat model. There is a hit/miss check that happens well before the attack animation completes. A two-handed weapon user can attack my character with Mighty Blow, and I can run a good ten yards away before his swing animation completes, but I'll still take that hit.

But DA:O uses a physics check to make sure any projectile reaches the target before calculating whether it is a hit, damage, armor, etc. Sounds like a bug in that area.

You can often avoid arrows and mage staff attacks by running behind walls, but not spells or melee attacks, and not arrow techniques that automatically hit, such as Scattering Shot.Faffnr wrote...

Sometimes it seems that it does the checks way before the hit. So if you walk past a door and then hide behind the wall it's possible to still get hit by a projectile from an archer who just completed the attack animation, after which he will then move close to the door or through it until he can see you again. You can actually see projectile trails curve when the target moves. I also get this a lot when cone-of-colding a group of enemies; it seems that it's always the highlighted ones that are hit even if they run past me while the animation completes.
At other times it appears that in some locations, walls aren't quite where they seem to be...
Area effect spells can of course hit you even if you're not visible, and I think I've seen casters fireball the floor... although that may have been grease they were targetting...

I find it especially odd that i can make big aoe spell thought the wall right middle of those mobs in the other room without actually seeing where i'm casting.

Pretty early on, you learn not to try to be clever and quickly move your warrior out of the spell radius after you've given your mage the go-ahead.19percent wrote...
