Vigil does NOT say they had NO information about the Reapers BEFORE they invaded. He merely said their arrival through the CITADEL was a surprise.

Do NOT take everything Vigil says as gospel.

Also, the inhabitants of Ilos who where there before the Protheans could have might as well put up those statues.

Why would they be in the prothean beacon visions then?  Since Vigil says that they had no prior knowledge of the reapers until they invaded.  But the same species of those statues were in the visions as well.  So I don't think that species were there before the protheans, I think they must have existed at the same time.

Actually, there's a small glimpse in one of the visions showing off the protheans, but they had that "Pointy" head just like prothy right there has, I have already explained it to someone else, but again, spoilers.

I just ran into some pictures from that book just floating around online.

I just thought I would warn you that they are pretty freaking huge spoilers.
Avoid anything involving that book if you can.  You may regret it.

But if you've read the leaked script it's nothing new... so have at it.

can you send me the link plz

Looking at it again, the beacon vision actually isn't all that consistent with itself.  There's quite a bit of variation when you look at individual frames:

As a point of reference to other Protheans. To tell them "this is Ilos" by showing them the statues.

anyway, the leaked script is now totally confirmed. we may as well assume everything in it is true.

Both a retcon, and a much lamer design

Have to say I was avoiding spoilers, chose to look at these.. and ugh such a letdown

So much scope and potential for new members of the squad, and instead.. yeh

Most frustrating thing is that I have been maintaining a positive attitude to the game, as the gameplay seems up to scratch, and the idea of a diplomatic storyline with red herrings and so on is still promising to me

But these squadmates.. its that you know certain ME2 squadmates (for example) you would so much rather..

For the non-tech focused squadmate.. I suppose I could have liked it, if yes the design had been at all fitting what we had seen so far

Or not. This just covers a very small fraction of it.

There are some pieces that were obviously WIPs. One piece in particular that was pretty important was missing.

what if ilos was home to those people that the structures portray and when the protheans expanded and built there research facility   both species were wiped out?

Yeah I'm thinking both species were wiped out at the same time 50,000 years ago.

and didnt liara say in me1 that the protheans werent the first species?

There were many species before the protheans that used the mass relays and the citadel.  The reapers are over 37 million years old and they come back to the galaxy every 50,000 years so you can only imagine how many species they have either turned into another giant reaper or forced to be indoctrinated slaves.

I am not fussed at all by the 'second' squad-member. A lot of it has definitely been in mind since the original Mass Effect and, contrary to popular belief, there are a number of very clever ways it can work. I'm just a little confused its appearance.

Personally, I don't see this as a really big thing...I mean, both Jacob AND thane were visually designed primarily as sex objects for women...

Bioware has a long history of this (really, have you never seen the Alistair appreciation thread? One of the biggest complaints about DA2 was how "fatty looking" they made Alistair)

 One consideration..

If the second squadmate, our stasis friend, is a DLC squadmate.. then surely they are not going to form a very big part of the game?

I think EDI resembles the Metropolis robot and was designed with that in mind. I dont have a problem with her design at al. Oversexualization? Attractive appeal I would say. Nothing to pick spears and stab eachother about/over.

I remember some 6 months or so ago was a topic concerning rumors and speculations (or wishes) about a prothean squadmate with very loud voices 'what a stupid idea, BW would never go in this direction', 'Protos are dead!' and the like :)
lol, guess not.

What EDI looks like, I think, shouldn't really matter.

The concern should be whether it will work or not.

The idea of having Legion in ME2 caused a stair, and yet he was perhaps one of the finest written characters in the series.

re: Protheans and their look

Um, point of fact...Technically, everything on a Volus colony and homeworld is a Turian Hierarchy artifact since as a client species, every volus is a member of the hierarchy.

Same goes for the other races in the turian hierarchy....

I'd like it if the Prothean had the same voice actor as the 'cannot be stopped!' guy from ME1. Or at least, that's how Shepard will interpret it. No one else will be able to understand him. It'll be great to see the cipher come back into play.

A character that looks good and is believable is way more sexy than a character that dresses like a comic ****. Fake is not attractive and promoting false "beauty" in superfical ways is just low and cheap.

I completely agree 100%. A great example of a love interest done right is Alyx from Half Life 2. I desperately want to bang her!

ME2 style sexpots? Not so much. And I find the sexualization of EDI...questionable. If she is a love interest I will vomit. She is physically nothing more than an advanced sex-doll.

I have to admit, that'd be damn cool.

And not outside the realm of possibility either.
