What does that even mean, "hang this on Bioware"? Does trying to draw attention do something you have an issue with mean you are hanging it on someone it particular? Isn't it being hung on Bioware because Bioware did it and we're on a Bioware forum?

Because the trope sucks, I care about Mass Effect more than I care about Star Trek, and I know Bioware is capable of better than this.

Besides, smallpox was around for thousands of years.  Should we have kept that, too?

Yes, because small pox is comparable to you disliking a troupe, right? This type of logic is why no one takes the complaints here seriously.

And for the record, the trope was a part of "Mass Effect" from day 1. It's not as if they introduced Quarians and Asari in the 3rd game....they looked and dressed exactly the same in the first game. Matriarch Benezia was damn near topless in the first game.

People complain just for the sake of complaining.

Oh my, he/she/it's truly a squad member? This game is going to be huge with middle aged Japanese men.

Bioware: pandering to mouthbreathers and virgins.

It's getting hung on Bioware because people love to complain. The trope existed before this game series. This trope existed in this game series since the first game. So the shock and horror at all of this seems a little forced...."OMG! THE ALIEN GIRLS ARE ATTRACTIVE!"....it seems to me that if this was such a major problem people would've stopped supporting the series after the first game. They didn't obviously, because here they are.

The "hot alien chick" trope has been around before "Star Trek". It's a part of sci-fi. I don't understand why people hang this on Bioware or EA. It makes zero sense honestly.

Objectification versus celebration here.  The women in ME may be celebrated with form fitting armor (or lack thereof) but not objectified (none of them are pure meat, even Thane and Jacob have points outside of their sex appeal).

So I'm going to call BS on this one Cheezy, women and men can both be celebrated without being objectified.

There is a fine line and I don't feel that Bioware has crossed it enough for rage.

I see. So..because you enjoy a game, you forfeit the right to take issue with any of it's content? Interesting. I'd not previously been informed of that. Is there some sort of meeting people like you attend where I could get this kind of infromation first-hand? Also, do you only get to decide which opinions are valid here on BSN, or does it apply to you IRL?

Nobody is shocked. Nobody is horrified. I wouldn't expect anyone is even remotely surprised. People are, however, tired of it universally being the case.

Sometime, someone's going to have to explain to me how 'but it's been this way for a while' works as justification for people never complaining about something they don't like.

If life were so simple and straightforward, progress would be the most alien character of all.

Hey, I'm just doing my part before they cross it and jump off the cliff.  I don't think Bioware's THAT BAD, but I think the fact that some of it is SO GOOD that makes it worse.

Ashley and EDI were the two female squadmates farthest away from the whole "must be sexy" trope.  And then this book comes out that says "must be sexy" was the most important thing considered in their design.  Don't you see how insulting that is?

Why did they have to say, "we gave Ash sex appeal?"  Why didn't they say, "we wanted her to be as beautiful as she is strong, and we wanted her uniform to be both military and stylish in a way that reflected her tough-yet-playful personality and increased confidence in herself" or something like that?

And that's why I love Babylon 5. Unfortunately I haven't found a good gaming series with such work ethos as of yet.

So she is the most common romance option and somehow she wasn't sexy at all before? Let's make her more girly.

Whaaatever. They both look amazing. I don't give a damn if either of them can be romanced though, I really don't. :P

I think I love you.

But in all seriousness, that is the most aggravating part of the artbook. That women (or anything with feminine attributes) have to be sexy first and foremost. Not strong, or have a personality, but sexy.

It's not like BioWare's the first or the last to do it, but I do miss Ash from the first game where she wasn't sexualized at all. :/

Not going to lie, saw EDI. Was disappoint. Especially with the blurb.

Completely expected it, though.
