And as much as I hated Miranda and Samara's outfits they were also balanced out by characters like Thane and Jacob.

But in Mass Effect 3, we have Kaidan, who has heavy armor and looked ready for combat. And Ashley... wearing that stupid catsuit. It's just getting infuriating when you go back to Mass Effect and see Ashley and Liara wearing actual armor. EDI is just the icing on the cake. Why the hell do we have to keep yelling at Bioware about this stuff?

You do realize that the catsuit is only worn when you first meet her and that she wears armor afterward, right?

Just saw the picture...

That migraine I finally managed to shake after 3 days?  It's back.

Knock it off, Bioware.  Your characters (for the most part) are strong enough to engage the players based on personality and stories alone.  They don't ALL need the fetish suits or over-the-top body models to pique our interest.

*refrains from making sweeping generalizations about adolescent fantasies because even the teenage guys she knows personally think this is ridiculous*  <_<

My issue is that was going to be her original outfit until the controversy made them backpedal.

There is nothing wrong with Edi's body other than the boobs. That's it. People going insane over this are ridiculous.

I'm not really digging the design...seems pretty cheesy to me, especially with the "hair." Why have "hair" at all? I just don't understand why robosexuality needed to be included in the first place, but let alone...jesus Bioware you better know what you're doing...

And along with edi it's (spoilers - though not really anymore) prothy the prothean. I wonder how much the story has really changed (from the script that was leaked - bioware saying [?] that they are changing some of it according/due to the reactions). :|

It doesn't matter the they went with a female body - it matters that they HAD to have it sexualised. They NEEDED to have it sexualised.

So? What's so wrong about that?

It's certainly better than those outfits Samara and Miranda had.

Its wrong because its only NEEDED for games aimed at gamers who have just discovered they get funny feelings hen they look at boobs.

There isn't a need for it in the ME universe. What started out as a series that had the traditional male warrior as a woman, and the traditonal female mage as a man and pushed a strong powerful female avatar has suddenly looked like they've done a backflip.

ME was a series that started off without feeling the need to reduce female characters to excessive objectification. Now - for no reason what so ever, and without any explanation - they suddenly NEED to have them sexed up?

Generally speaking I thought we were heading away from this kind of backwards mentality.

Not really.
The original Mass Effect: Benezia. Asari race in general. I also wonder who is this strong female avatar you mentioned. Certainly not Ashley.

EDI's probably the one who designed the body herself, i can see her modelling her new body to joker's tastes (according to his recent searches in the extranet :P) in order to screw and tease with his mind.

And the consort was very sexed up as well. It is just that the original ME also had characters that weren't all sexed up.

so wait you find edi to be over sexualized and others just arent?

look bro im a guy myself but if you dont like the look i understand but if your going to keep hyping the omg there oversexualizing thing i hope you understand that a few other charaters can be said for the same thing.

so dont make it sound like edi is the only one

Brilliant? Maybe. I say the jury is still out, although my first impression is not a good one. I think it's important for everyone to bear in mind that 99% of the BSN was hating on Vega based solely on a picture. Now that some of the character's personality is known that story has changed considerably for many.

Also, everyone liked EDI in ME2.

honestly it is what it is. and if it's along the lines of classic AI robot female bodies then you've sorta gotten used to it at this point (or at least I have to the point where I just go "meh" when I saw it)

A little bit off topic it's the prothean that's got me more concerned. Because it might be a sign of a cheap cop-out "defeat reapers through (mainly) secret prothean tech/weapon" ending.

I fail to see how this image of EDI is "hypersexualized..." Yes she has a metallic body, a body that is in the shape of the female form. That's about it. That's what the basic female body shape tends to be. Would it be better if she had a metallic body in the male form? Personally I'd find that kind of jarring with EDI's assumed gender/sex.

For an example of actual hypersexualization, see Ivy in Soul Calibur.

He said that the series started off without having to resort to pointless titillation to make people like their characters. Asari aside.

Oh for sure the Asari were set up from the get go as sexually liberated humanoid females. There was a bit of a kerfuffle about that too - but you could still put Liara in crazy huge armour - and she was a bookworm rather than like most of the Asari you were exposed to - as a squad mate she didn't NEED to be sexy nor did she ever try.

The Avatar i was referring to was Female Shep.

Not to mention it would be just weird if EDI was a walking box...voiced by Tricia Helfer. :D
